The PRO-321

With the PRO-321, you'll work longer before having to unload. The collector box holds 60% more material than the smaller PREMIER model, making it a great choice for larger properties or heavier cleanup tasks.

The powerful 15.3 ft. lbs. gross torque engine (301 cc), in combination with the massive Shark-Teeth impeller, creates tremendous airflow that virtually eliminates clogs and leaves your lawn beautifully free of debris.

The easy-opening clamshell collector and backless cart (with a steep 60-degree dump angle) ensures that unloading is fast, easy and thorough.

Premier model leaf vacuum reduces leaves and yard waste

Collect, Shred and Dump!

Using the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum drastically reduces the volume of leaves and other materials it collects. It starts with your mower deck which provides lift to pull lawn debris up into the spinning blade. Then the partially mulched material is channeled into our Shark Teeth Steel impeller which further reduces it before passing it in to the collector.

It's not JUST for Leaves!

In spring the DR is great for cleaning up the wind- and storm-borne debris that collects on your lawn. During the summer, it makes a terrific high-capacity bagger that will leave your lawn spotless with very little extra effort on your part. And you can use the utility cart any time of year for hundreds of hauling jobs.

Features

Accessories Add Versatility

Our Vacuum Hose lets you get at yard waste in places you can't drive your mower. And the Mulch Discharger allows you to broadcast all that debris right where you want it.

Optimal 8" Hose

Our 8" hoses offer the ideal balance–narrower hoses clog too frequently, and wider ones lose compression and suction power. We tested extensively and found 8" to be the optimal diameter.

Modular Design

Our collector top removes and folds up, and the engine rolls away on its own built-in trolley. The result: simple, space-efficient storage and year-round versatility.

Reduce a Mountain of Leaves

Our Shark-Teeth Impeller, in combination with the action of your lawn mowing blade, reduces your leaves to a fine mulch during collection. The result is rich, organic material that you can return to your garden or compost heap.

Tow-behind DR leaf vacuum converts to a utility cart

Utility Cart

With the upper collector and power unit detached, the cart bed makes a great all-purpose utility trailer. Pin hitch it to your riding mower (or ATV) and use it for all kinds of landscaping and hauling chores. The PRO-321 has a 800 pound capacity.

Keystart on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Electric Start Available

The PRO-321 is available with electric-start (with manual recoil backup). The 9-amp battery recharges during use, for instant starts with the turn of a key.

Collector trailer on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Huge Capacity

The PRO-321 holds up to 321 Gallons (43 cu. ft.). The high-speed impeller reduces the volume of leaves to a fraction of their original bulk. So you'll be able to collect huge amounts of leaves and debris before you have to stop and unload.

14-inch wheels on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Big Wheels...easy Rolling!

Our 14" diameter wheels are bigger than competitive products and create a smoother roll. You can convert to dual wheel setup with our Wheel Upgrade Kit.

Trailer jack stand on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Trailer Jack Stand

Heavy-duty Trailer Jack Stand, for moving the machine easily when not in use. Adapts to pin hitch heights of 8" to 15". Stand lifts out of the way during operation. 4" diameter wheel.

The unit does a very good job. The only reason it is not a 5 star rating is because of the difficulty of cutting the deck adapter to fit on an angled deck. Be sure to watch the how to videos along with reading the directions. And be patient in cutting the opening as it takes time to figure out how much to cut. Do not order any of the supplies for the engine until you have read the manufacturers guide first. Also, when ordering. be sure they have all the parts in stock and ship at the same time.

Considerations:

Quality very good for the price. Dual wheels a must for wet lawns and full loads. Performs well with wet leaves if not matted down. Detaching hose at mower and racking piles of blown leaves from gardens and shrubbery works great. Consider the pro model for capacity > 1.5 acre of leaves. Starts and runs well - a bit thirsty on gasoline. Consider storage space required as unit is large and takedown for storage is 1 hour project. Hose is stiff in cold weather and requires tight connections to keep from 'popping off'. The max 34 deck to back of tractor recommendation for standard hose is not conservative enough for wide decks and tractors i.e. JD 540 w/54 deck consider longer hose if your dimensions are 30 or longer. You can always shorten the hose. Again, dual wheel option on entry level models a must for soft lawns. Dump routine straightforward and quick, but does take a bit of strength to lift enclosure bar if unit is >80 full. The mulch/packing density is very favorable, once you have a full load - it is a lot/heavy. It is dusty on dry property, but normal lawns or damp days hardly noticeable. Sticks can cause clogs in hose but easily remedied. Plenty of suction to handle continuous flow of wet/damp leaves in pro model. Metal impeller in unit is a must.

My purchase started out rocky with issues with the shipper, but DR was great to deal with in resolving the issues. I love my new DR. I had previously owned a Trac Vac which clogged all the time, was hard to dump, spewed dirt and dust everywhere, and was hard for me to start. I have none of these issues with my new DR. The Trac Vac lasted 20 years, so I just hope that the DR will too!

Very pleased with my DR Pro 321. I chose the larger model and am glad I did. It's handled pretty much any challenge Picked it up at a terminal to save freight. I took a landscape trailer and they loaded it. It took me about 1/2 day to assemble and am still tweaking a few things but am very happy. Using. John Deere 1025 R mini tractor with a 60' quick connect deck. For the boot, I ordered steel Trac Vac boot. It's powerful, easy to dump, and very effective. Recommended.

After a misstep in initially sending the wrong assembly instructions, the agent I talked to got me a pdf and I got it assembled with no problems. Eventually, I have replaced the provided black knobs with locking nuts to prevent vibration from shaking the knobs loose. The product works like a champ. I got 10 loads the first time I used it. Very damp crab grass and not a single clog.

It does not make sharp left hand turns without the hose coming off. But it gets the job done perfectly.
Response from DR SupportHello Harold, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the DR Pro Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. We're happy to hear it's doing a perfect job for you! It does sound like you need the Extra Hose Kit. This will give you the extra room you need to make the left and turns without the hose coming undone. You can find it here:

https://www.drpower.com/power-equipment/leaf-lawn-vacuums/accessories/extra-hose-kit-ll2.axd

This will give you an extra 36", you can also cut it to size for the perfect fit. If you have any questions, please give us a call and we would be happy to help out.

I have 3.5 acres of flat grass to mow, the small baskets would fill to fast. This DR makes the job much easier. The negatives are fuel consumption and a very noisy engine behind your back. some assembly required is an understatement. The canvas was hard to stretch but with the help of my wife and three neighbor kids we got it on. Turning is a learning process as it is wider then then the 46 mower but a little better with the 54.

I run and maintain a pistol/rifle range. It would take me 4 to 5 hour to cut and remove the old grass clippings in order to complete my task. Of course I used a leaf sweeperprior to DR Leaf & lawn vacuum, that would get the bulk up. Lawn sweeper would have to emptied at least 3 times. It now takes me 2 to 3 hours. Assembly was pain.....

The vacuum may be fairly good BUT the 4 hours we were told it would take to assemble was closer to 20 hours..in order to get the cover put together it was necessary to take straps hooked to our pickup and our 4 wheeler and ratchet them to finish the assembly The instructions were VERY poor and unclear. The jury is out as to whether we will be returning it as for pine cones, which is what we needed to pick up I would estimate a 65 pick up rate.

we purchased this tool earlier this spring patiently waiting for the snow to go away. our local distributor assembled the unit no extra charge and for a minimal fee, delivered it to our house. finally the weather cleared up. our intent for this tool is not leaf pick up but picking up the dead grass kicked up by a power thatcher. i had my fingers crossed. the thatch pulled up was pretty thick. i am using a 38 20hp simplicity riding mower. instead of using DR's mower deck adaptor, i chose to us one made for the deck from simplicity. it has a rectangle exit shoot that we heated up to mold into a 6 inch circle. we purchased a piece of 6 flexible tube to attach to the converting attachment used when purchasing the vacuum hose attachment. the transition worked great. in reading other reviews, they state that the flexible tube isn't long enough. because of the transition we needed, length is no longer an issue. plenty of length now. i was just hoping that the bends created while going around corners would create a clog. this did not occur. 3 or 4 times the motor did slow drastically because of the amount of grass being collected but i stopped to let the vacuum catch up. not an issue. i would say that it picked up about 95 of the thatch created. over the last 3 day we had 2 1/2 of rain. the ground was a little soft. when the riding mower drove over the thatch, it did pack some of the thatch into ground not allowing the mower to suck up those areas. i went over some areas from a different direction and most of the packed areas freed and were sucked up. to summarize, i am very happy with this vacuum. it performed as i had hoped it would. it prevented many sore muscles. it saved tons of time. we should have done this years ago. Thank you DR.

This leaf vacuum really sucks
Posted by: Rodney C. from Troutville, VA on 04/06/2018
Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
After using the first time, my wife asked how it worked. I told her to keep the pets and small children away, as they might get sucked up into it. To me, the most impressive feature was how easy it is to unload. I have had 2 other models in the past, and it was always a chore to unload them, requiring a pitchfork and a lot of work. With the DR, I unlatch the bed, lift the back end, pull forward a few feet, and close it up. Off to vacuum another load. I also bought the hose extension, and it does a good job getting around bushes and flowerbeds. However, on it's very first use, the hose got a tear in it, and now I have a brand new hose with duct tape wrapped around it. I expected the hose to be much more durable, especially for 250. Overall though, I am quite pleased. My only regret is not getting the electric start. Though it starts on the first or second pull now, as the motor ages and takes more pulling, it will be difficult as it takes a lot of force to turn the engine over. Finally, I was worried about assembly after reading the reviews. However, I had no problem putting it together. The instructions were clear, and there are good YouTube videos to guide you, if needed. The 4 rating is really a 4.8, with only the extension hose being a subtraction.

I just unpacked and assembled my DR PRO leaf vac. From unpacking to having it running took about three and a half hours. I read numerous reviews and was prepared for a nightmare but that wasn't the case. Watch the videos to get the overall picture and then follow the instructions to the letter. I am 68 years old and worked alone. The hardest part was installing the dump handle and front hinge plate. I accomplished this by securing one side of the unit to a post so I could gain the leverage I needed to complete the installation.

It's not every day you get a product that is made with such quality, comes with good hardware and assembles easily, really DR thought of everything. This machine performs better than advertised. I cleared 2 acres of leaves that had accumulated over a few weeks. The vac took the beating and over performed. My one and only change I'd make is to have some sort of seal that could go around the edges of the deck adapter. I made it with some car door weatherstripping and it worked great. Otherwise, this is an amazing machine that will make yard cleanup SO SO much quicker and easier. I would recommend it to anyone!!!

I purchased this vac at end of summer during a sale. I have a one acre wooded lot with many oak trees/ leaves. The vac is excellent and picks up and powders everything that's run over. Though the 8" hose wore out with holes and tears before even one complete season. I also had to purchase extension hose due to having a zero turn mower. The extension hose also torn with holes. Had to duct tape everything using almost 2 rolls. So do I now have to spend a couple hundred dollars more to replace the two hoses and have them wear out next season. Love the vac but need better quality hose. L

This is my 3rd season using the vac. It has never made it through a season without an issue. DR is great to send parts, but it is very aggravating. The cover never made it through year one. It has come apart every year, including this one. It is a bad design with the location of the seam. I store it in a building so it is never in the weather. The hose lasted 1 and a half seasons. This year a wheel bearing gave out and caused the paired wheel bearing to break down as well. While working on the wheels I noticed that the tub of the cart is showing stress cracks where it is attached to the frame. I don't know if it is worth putting money into at this point. I use this only for leaf pickup. It is not used all year long.

Wet leaves, tons of leaves, it worked great, no clogging, no frustration except for: 1. Some reviews say it's a bear to put together, I thought, well, not for me, wrong!!! Its a bear to put together... 2. The vacuum hose, in my opinion is of substandard quality, it sheared on the first use, put a connecting piece and re-attached to fix it, it sheared someplace else on the 2nd use... In other words, if you brush against trees, building, anything, the hose can't take it. Replaced it with a professional grade dust collector hose from McMaster, they are re-enforced with wire, now I'm happy.

I recently purchased the new Pro machine after having used a 2008 Pro for the past 6 years or so. I used to spend more time on and off the tractor to unplug the hose and discharge but with this machine that nuisance is gone. It sucks real good but there are some things that can use improvement 1. In order to change oil I will have to remove the bolt holding the frame together. having done that the oil will still end up all over the frame since there is no way to get a funnel under the drain plug. This engine should have a 90 deg nipple with sufficient length to clear the frame. Poor engineering! 2. The first time I used the machine I over filled the cart and I was unable to raise the lid to dump the clippings. I had to pull the rod from the front of the cover and then only thru brute force was I able to pull the top off and dump the clippings. There needs to be some sort of sight window or something to judge the level of the load. As debris enters the chamber it pushed out on the fabric which is where the problem occurred. Didnt have that problem with the hard sided old model. 3. I notice that the cover tends to slip from side to side creating a crack and blowby. There should be some sort of peg that fits between the cover and the plastic wagon to keep it from shifting side to side. 4. I was mowing wet grass and noticed that the in take fabric around the discharge chute kept slipping off with the blowby landing all over me. recommend this sleeve be lengthened another 4 inches or so to prevent this from happening. 5. The jury is still out on the single pull versus the double connection on the old machine. I am no longer able to swing around trees or obstacles like i did with the old machine. I have to do my trim first which adds more time to the job. 6. While the new engine is very powerful, it is considerable louder than the old machine forcing me to wear protection. (probably should be doing that anyway) 7. The marketing department is over zealous when it talks about how versatile the machine is for storage, utility cart, etc. After my struggles to assemble the unit, the last thing I am going to do is break it down for other uses. 8. On my old machine I experienced significant where on the holes where the pins attached to the tractor. I had to have a plate added to reduce the slop. I have already converted the new machine to a 2 inch ball hitch which will be much more secure and stable. 9. I have a long reach to go from my discharge chute to the machine and had to buy the extra hose attachment. In order to allow a full turn to the left I have more hose than I need when going straight or making right turns. I will have to modify my pickup to reduce that as I am very concerned about wearing out the hose from dragging on the ground. Overall I am impressed by the power and improved ease of use, especially when dumping the load. The dual tires are a plus and I hope your engineers will consider some of my suggestions as listed above. I mow about 5 acres and compost my clippings resulting in about 15 yards of beautiful top soil annually. My garden couldn't be happier!

Excellent machine

This machine works great. I live in a wooded area and have about 20 large trees in my yard. Blowing the leaves used to be a huge chore. I hooked this machine to my walk behind mower and I can get all my leaves done in no time. It holds quite a bit of leaves and mulches them to a fraction of the size. My leaf pile was so condensed my neighbors are asking where I'm hiding my leaf piles. I would say that the only downside is you cannot use it when the leaves are wet. Tried to use it on some slightly wet leave and it clogged constantly. Just have to pick a nice dry day and it will never clog. The main reason this is a 5 star machine though is due to DR's customer service, they are top notch. I have had a few small issues in 2 seasons of use. When I called customer support about the warranty they were nothing but helpful. They parts I needed were sent to me immediately without question. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Machine lived up to reviews! Very happy with it. It was more challenging for one person to put together when dealing with fabric cover. Video for cutting deck adaptor was helpful. Took me longer than the handy folks in the reviews, but once it was attached to the mover it crushed my acres of leaves!

Great Yard Vac!

Just assembled this on Friday without much problem. It is helpful to have and extra set of hands at times. Especially when you have to stretch the fabric. It also helps to watch the video on cutting angled adapter to fit your mower. This was the most time consuming part of assembly. I have many Oak and mature pine trees dropping leaves, needles and acorns. This vacuum picked it ALL up on the first pass! I was very impressed! This is a huge time saver, It looks like i will vacuum up pine needles regularly. I had no idea pine trees shed needles so fast. It looks like these good heavy duty parts will last a while, we'll see and report back

I received my DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum and it took me about 3 hours to assemble it, 2 for the cart and cover, and another hour to cut the adapter for my mower deck. I watched both you tube videos - the one for assembling the cart and the one for cutting the adapter several times - they help a lot! I have a lawn with a number of large maple trees, walnut trees and White Pine trees. The DR Leaf and Lawn Vac handled the leaves, needles and walnuts without a hitch. Previously I had used a 2 bag grass catcher on my lawn tractor to pick up leaves. It worked, but I had to empty the bags over 25 times when doing my lawn. I also had to stop 3 or 4 times to unclog the chute! With the DR - I did the whole lawn and dumped about 6 times (and can probably do it with fewer dumps, I wasn't sure how to gauge when it was full when I first started). In addition it never clogged up once! I am so pleased with the DR Leaf and Lawn Vac, I haven't had a chance to use the extension hose to clean the patios and beds out yet - but I am actually looking forward to doing it! Finally, DR customer service is great, I had a problem with the jack that came with my unit, I took pictures and gave them a call - ready to prove I hadn't run the machine yet and drug the jack on the ground or anything, but when I called they just said no problem, they didn't need anything but my word for it and the shipped a replacement jack out right away! This is not my first DR purchase, and it will undoubtedly not be my last! Great job DR!

Great Product

Got it on Saturday, assembled the unit and did the lawn on Sunday. Very impressed on the construction and operation. There was one packet of hardware that was open and missing the bolts for the axle mounts but that was just a trip to the local hardware. The part about easy storage may not be all that easy. I found installing both the rear and front bars were very difficult. Maybe due to the cooler temperatures which made it much harder to stretch the canvas to get on the bolts. Don't think I will be removing it since I already have a 10 cu trailer for lawn work.

Commercial use

This vacuum is the best thing that we have for leaf clean up. We are taking about a quarter of the time to clean up the yards that we have. Being a commercial lawn care company we are always looking for ways to make it easier on everyone. The leaf vacuum gets used everyday in the fall for about 2 months. With that being said we do have to replace parts. New canvas, impeller and wear plate every year. When we order new parts the people that take the order for us are very pleasant to work with. Even when there were some parts that were Warrenty issues it was still a pleasant experience. This is the best company that I have bought anything from to help solve any problems. We will be buying another leaf vacuum this season so we can have two of them working on properties to make it even faster.

I bought my leaf vac through R&R Tractor in Boerne, TX. They set it all to work with my Kubota 1870. The machine works great. I can hook it all up in about 5 minutes, I can do in 30 minutes what used to take most of the day. It is so easy and does such a great job, I use it more often and keep my yard looking great. Highly Reccommend!!

I owe DR a review

I bought this from a local supplier and they told me it would be here in three days, I thought, sure it will, by god it was. I was told it would be $400 to assemble it, but I'm fairly handy so I took it home and did it myself, it took about 8 hours, but I think it was worth it. I have a John Deere 125R tractor, I bought the extension hose and connected it to my crossbar on my three point hitch, it works perfect although it looks like a train. The first thing that I realized is that this thing has a lot of vacuum power and the second was that there's a learning curve when operating this machine. I understand now that I'm not going to drive this thing quickly around my yard to clean up leaves because it will jam up, however my John Deere has cruise control and once I match the speed with the condition of the leaves, I move right along with only a jam when I get a stick jammed sideways in the hose. I keep a screw driver handy and I'm running again in a minute or two. I use this on my 3 acres and my sons 1 acre lot and we don't have a few leaves, our lands are carpeted with leaves and this has worked wonderfully "after" I learned how to use it properly, I've picked up wet leaves and dry leaves. I purchased the separate hand held hose to be used separate from the tractors mowing deck and I'm hooked totally on this system. A couple of tips in summary: ** When I assembled this machine, I did it in my barn, loaded the iPhone video and assembled it using the video and pausing as I went along, I think this made it less frustrating. ** This will pick up wet or dry leaves, the dryer the better of course and I do use my cruise control to keep me from trying to push it too hard. ** It states here that you can dump this vacuum with one hand, good luck with that, it all depends on the wetness of the leaves, the wetter the heavier. My wife and I vowed to stop purchasing equipment that was cheap, from that point we buy the equipment based on the job, mowing my grass and picking up leaves is a big job that's how we ended up with a JD 125R tractor and matched it with this nice, well designed, DR leaf vacuum.
Response from DR SupportThank you for your thorough and well thought out feedback. We very much appreciate it as will others who are considering a Leaf Vac system for their very own. Thank you for choosing DR Power and we hope to hear from you again!

The product was shipped and arrived much sooner than expected after traveling across the country. Went together very well with excellent instructions. I was a little disappointed that this was equipped with a import power plant, but seems to run ok so far. Never had to choke an engine to start when its warm but that's what it takes. Up here in Washington we definitely put this machine to a test. It performs relatively well as long as the leaves are dry, which is rare around here. Plugs up constantly to the point it is almost unusable when leave are even slightly wet. Overall well built and good customer service.

Great Product, but needs Left Hand Turn Improvements

I use this vac on my JD X534 which has 4 wheel steering. I did measure the hose for max turning radius per instructions. I was disappointed that the hose still gets tangled up on my rear tire or starts to rub my rear fender paint. I was also very disappointed that the PVC hose was provided with such an expensive investment. Not even 1 year after purchase, the hose has ripped about 8” from where it enters the intake impeller. I didn’t request a replacement hose from DR, which I’m not sure they would not cover under warranty anyway due that this is a wear and tear item. I have purchased a urethane hose since then – which is a much better product in my opinion. I would think to resolve the rear tire/fender problem, would be to lengthen the hose support rod – both in height and length for the larger tractors (or at least offer this as an additional option) and to design a method for the bungie cord to be fastened to one location on the hose instead of allowing the bungie cord to slide around on the hose as you make turns which will cause your “set” position of the support to change as you work. Overall, I’m happy with the unit itself. No issues starting or running/operation of the engine. The only other suggestion that I would incorporate into design is to offer a handle where the discharge shoot enters into the collection area. This would make it easier to pull the collector down and lock into place easier.

OMG. I now love this machine. Leaves are collected as fast as you mow. Clean like a whistle. Even wet, it picks up leaves. I have large driveway and this pulls up even wet leaves, maybe better than dry. They don't blow away like when dry. A friend has the competitor rake and now he is so jealous of my DR. He has a flimsy frame on caster like wheels. This is a solid plastic tub that is good as a cart too. My old cart will fit right on top during winter. Rolls well even full. This has an 11 inch see thru pickup tube. Competitor's is 8 and not see thru. Less chance to clog up. You can see the leaves moving thru. I really apologize for my earlier negative review. This works great. A real back saver. I can hardly believe how easily it sucks up wet leaves. Allowed me to get them before they spread out.

I was going to order this last fall and waiting till now. My mistake. This is a great machine. I get tons of leaves in the fall and this will go through them like butter. I have many left over in the rear of back buildings and this sucked them right up. I do have to warn its a bear to put the canvas cover together. I went with the Pro and glad I did. I would love to had the extension for the mower deck pre cut for my tractor. It costs me about 800 to have someone de leaf me. This will pay for itself. I would recommend the extension hose to use like a vacuum cleaner.

Excellent Labour Saving Device

After using my Pro for the last few weeks and really putting it through it’s paces, I’m finally ready to write my review. I’ve pretty much used it in all aspects, attached to my tractor, using the vacuum hose and discharging so I can give a well rounded review of things both good and not so good. My dealer was good enough to assemble it for me so I can’t really speak to the ease of the assembly process but from what he told me, it was pretty straightforward. He did mention that the snaps were a little too tight for his liking when he was attaching them to the top so maybe loosening them up in future versions might be something to look into or even a zipper. They were so tight, in fact, that on the drive home in the back of the pickup, so much wind force was on them, even at 80 km/h that one did tear off. Aesthetically unpleasing but it does not hurt the function of the machine so no biggie but again, maybe making them a little looser would be a good thing. I had a double bagger on my tractor already so installing the hose to the tractor was a piece of cake. I would like to suggest however that all the hose clamps should come with a thumb screw or at least make all the clamp nuts the same size as I have to carry two nut driver sizes with me when I switch from tractor mode to vacuum hose mode. Thumb screws would be optimal but please make them metal instead of the plastic thumb screws because I have broken one already. Minor inconvenience but something that could be easily remedied at the factory level. As I said, my dealer did the assembly so as soon as I got it home, I was able to start it up and try it out. Now it gets fun! This machine is fantastic! It started without hesitation, a little loud at full tilt and I wish Rato would make a muffler for it but in combination with my tractor it picked up every leaf and twig and left my lawn, approximately 30000 square feet of it, pristine and park-like! After a half hour or so, I made my first dump and the leaves were perfectly shredded and there were a lot of them! Discharging them was pretty sweet too. I set myself up a pole that I hooked the end of the hose on so that I could adjust the height of the discharge and that worked great and I could just move it so that the pile directly in front of the nozzle wouldn’t get too high. My only problem with the discharge and this is quite a problem, is that the discharge chute always points to the collector box. This presents a few problems. Because it is pointing toward the box, which has to be in the “dump” position. Unless you remove the box completely, it has to make an immediate 90 degree turn coming out of the chute which is fertile ground for clogging. A simple solution to this would be to make the top portion of the chute adjustable so that it could be turned in any direction and not pinch the hose. Also because of the lack of space between the end of the chute and the collector box, it is very difficult to get the hose on because you have to bend the hose and slip it on, hold it AND tighten the thumb screw all at once. Quite the challenge when you are doing it alone. All in all though, discharging is a dream and I have a big meadow at the back of my property so I have just eliminated about a hundred paper bags full of leaves and the meadow gets a nice pile of compost! On the subject of the chute. While vacuuming up a fairly thick pile of leaves near my shed, I inadvertently sucked up a sizeable rock! The impeller sent it through no problem (lots of scary racket!) but unfortunately it punched a hole right through the plastic chute at the top so I had to pull out the sheet metal and duct tape to do a temporary fix on it to continue working until I get a new chute assembly. Not sure if this is covered under the warranty or not but it will teach me to be a little more careful in the future about sucking up unknown piles of leaves! (Addendum, the chute WAS replaced under warranty) Disassembly was not as easy as the videos made it look but I did manage to get it broken down and put away without too much frustration and since I only have to put it together and take it apart twice a year, it’s not a big price to pay for the amount of physical labor it saves me. I am giving it a 9 out of 10 or 4 out of 5 stars or whatever rating system you use. It would get a perfect rating if not for the few minor issues I had with it. It is a fantastic machine and I am looking forward to pulling it out in the Spring to do the cleanup. Kudos to DR for a great product and also to Rick and the gang at Trottier Farm Equipment where I purchased it. Top notch team and very customer service oriented. Thanks again and I look forward to many years of working with it. Cheers!

Hitch Problems
Posted by: Jon M. from WOODBINE, MD on 04/22/2015
Rating: Product Review Stars: 3.00 star rating
This is my second piece of equipment from D&R. My first purchase was a shredder which works great and I would buy another in a heartbeat. The leaf vacuum has been a bit of a challenge. First it was difficult to put the canvas piece together, but after finally finding the “D&R video blog” (which they do not provide you with the instructions) it was relatively simple. The boot adapter does not make for a very clean fit with my John Deere, so I sent it back and ordered a one piece fit from Trac Vac. Although the boot from Trac Vac is more expensive ($250), it is customized for your tractor and utilizes the same holes that are located on the deck. My biggest concern now is that the hitch configuration sits too low to the ground. I was told that the leaf vacuum needs to run level and I do not want to scrape the ground with the jack stand, which is a one piece design that does not swing/pivot up like most jack stands that I have used. I called the tech guy at D&R and he told me what I might have to have made, but not where or how. Not the best advice I have received. This piece of equipment is starting to cost me more than I bargained for. I’m sure it will run well once, it’s finally finished, if someone can actually help me answer my question about raising the hitch or raising the leaf vac unit to the correct height. A response from the tech guy which states that we “can’t” set up the hitch for every tractor maybe correct, but then tell me where I can go to help me fix the issue. I’m just a weekend warrior, not a mechanical genius! Overall customer service is quite good, but this doesn’t help. Will let you know how the unit runs once I get it going.
Response from DR SupportThank you for your thoughtful feedback on your DR® Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. The canvas cover as you mention was initially a very tight fit and sometimes made it a bit challenging to assemble. We heard and listened to our customers regarding this issue and have since modified the canvas so that it is slightly looser fit and it is now easier to assemble. Additionally, we did create the video which also can be very helpful for the new customer just attempting assembly. Here’s the link to the video for those folks reading this review that may want to watch in advance: http://www.drpower.com/pages/content/customer-support/product-support/leaf-lawn-vacuums We can see from your customer file that we have spoken to you a couple of times regarding your concerns about both the height of the unit as it travels across the ground (being level) and the jack stand not pivoting out of the way. The jack stand does come equipped with a handle that raises and lowers the machine and as you mention does not pivot. This has not to our knowledge been a problem and we hope our conversation with you helped to alleviate your concerns. Regarding the need to keep the machine level has to do with maintaining a good balance for the oil in your engine. Some sloping is fine and as long as the unit isn’t on a slope or being tilted any more than 20% there isn’t a concern. Hopefully you’ve had an opportunity to use your Leaf and Lawn Vacuum and are pleased with the performance. Fall is right around the corner and we know you’re going to be amazed at how it picks up the leaves in your yard and will make quick work of fall clean up. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you should have any other questions or concerns and we would love to see pictures of your yard before and after your fall clean up. Thanks for choosing DR® Power – we appreciate your business!

Great DR quality

This is my third major piece of DR equipment over the last 14 years; two field and brush mowers and now the Pro lawn vac. Clearly I think enough of the brand to keep coming back. The weather hasn't allowed me to do much more with it than a couple victory laps in the front yard after assembly so I can't really talk to its performance. I do have a couple of comments that might be worth passing along. 1. The assembly isn't 'that' difficult but the directions are not very user friendly. 2. The only flaws I have is that one of the bolts has a crossed threading and there were no extras and the eyelet to pass the front ring hook was about 3/8" off. (That's a lot to try to pull the tight canvas to line up. 3. The motor is branded as DR but looks like a standard Honda engine. It would be better for parts, resale potential, etc. they just used the original Honda. 4. DR kind of punts when it comes to the mower deck boot. For most brand name mowers the mower OEM has a boot designed to fit that specific model that is the right size/shape and will bolt directly to holes already in the deck. DR couldn't tell me precisely which boot I needed for my John Deere X540 and my John Deere dealer had to do a bit of research to find the part. If DR had a database of part numbers it would simplify the process considerably.
Response from DR SupportThank you for your feedback on the DR® Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. We appreciate hearing from all of our customers; comments and suggestion prove very helpful as you might imagine. We know you are going to find this machine to be incredibly helpful and efficient as you tackle your lawn care clean up. The machine works very good, but putting the box together was a real PAIN IN THE HINDER! The canvas is way too tight. I have read SEVERAL reviews about this very problem. Why doesn't the DR company do something about it? Just ad another 1/2 inch at the seams!! I had to come up with a tool that would streach it far enough in order to get the bolts in!NO PICNIC! Wake up DR!
Response from DR SupportWe very much appreciate your feedback on the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. We know that the canvas is a very tight fit. We apologize that your experience proved difficult and as you use the machine; we hope you'll have a better understanding of why a really tight fit is beneficial. We have a great Tech Support Department that is very happy to help with any issue; assembly, maintenance, etc. so please don't hesitate to give us a call at any time. When I picked up the DR and got it home it came in perfect condition. I put it all together which took a while but it went well. I put in the oil and gassed it up and it started right up. I hooked everything up to my lawn tractor and the way I went. The DR worked perfectly. I did not have any problems with what so ever. It is a very good machine. I would recommend it very highly to any one. It saved me hours of raking. I have a 1.75 acre lot with 50 trees with oak and maple. I used the DR three times to vacuum them all up. The DR saved me days of raking. Thank you for making such a great product.

I received my Lawn and Leaf vacuum in October and have just now used it for the first time. I can honestly say, "WOW". What use to take me an entire day I was able to do in just three hours. What a relief to not have to stop every 5 minutes and empty like I do my factory bagger. The only thing that I found difficult was the top assembly and only because it is so tight. Very difficult to put together one person but I had no choice. This vacuum really functions well. I use it mainly for pine needles but I do have some leaves and it does a great job at mulching and reducing both. I am very pleased with my purchase. I hope that with normal use I will get many years use out of this.
Response from DR SupportThank you for your review on the DR Leaf and Lawn Vac. We are so happy that the machine is working out well for you and that the time to clean up your yard was dramatically reduced. We very much appreciate your feedback on the assembly of the canvas top. The vacuum works very well. It makes leaf clean up actually enjoyable. It's incredible how much suction it has. Before purchasing the unit, I was concerned about custom fitting the cutting deck attachment. As it turns out it was pretty straight forward. I followed the instructions and used a Jigsaw to cut the heavy plastic. However, the vacuum unit assembly was not as easy. The trailer portion was simple but constructing the framing for the fabric hood was challenging. The instruction images are in black and white and hard to make out. This needs improvement. Overall a very solid unit. I'm very happy with it and would definitely recommend it.

A.The new DR Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums are equipped with a Rato engine. Rato manufactures all purpose engines used primarily for outdoor power equipment and are also known for making ATVs and motorcycles. The Rato engine is superior in design and lifespan.

Q.Will one of your vacuums work with my mower?
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work with most 14 hp or bigger riding lawn mowers and Z-steer mowers. To help determine whether the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is compatible with your mower, please review the list of questions below. This information will also help you decide which model is appropriate for your riding mower. 1. What is the Cutting Width of your mower? 2. Do you currently have a bagging or collection system for your lawn mower? If so, is the diameter of the boot’s discharge opening between 8"? The blower inlet hose on the DR measures 8" in diameter, but we also have adapters for boots with diameters of up to 8". If you do not, our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot, can be modified to fit lawn decks that have a discharge opening up to 6" high by 19" wide. If our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot will not fit with your mower’s lawn deck, you may be able to locate a boot by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower. 3. Do you have a pin hitch on the back of your tractor between 8" and 15" from the ground? If not, is there a secure place on the back of your tractor to mount a hitch plate? If you are in need of a Hitch Plate or opted for the Dual Point Hitch Kit, what is the distance between the rear wheels on your mower? 4. What is the distance from the back opening of the discharge on the lawn mower to the back of the furthest point of the back of the tractor? If the distance is 40 inches or less, our standard blower inlet hose will be sufficient. However, if this distance is between 41 inches and 7 feet, then our optional Hose Extension Kit is required. If the distance is greater than 7 feet, the mower is too large to be used with the DR. Q.What size is the hose you use on all three models of the DR Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum?
A.The blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet is now larger in diameter. We went from a 6 inch ID hose to a 8 inch ID hose for improved suction, the Premier at 66 mph and the Pro/Pro-XL at 72 mph. A larger diameter hose also means less likely to clog.

Q.How well will the unit perform pulled behind a UTV, without passing the leaves through a mower deck?
A.It will work great! It’ll take longer to clean up a similar sized area when compared to a riding mower, but the Vacuum Hose is a great attachment.

Q.What is covered on the extended warranty?
A.Our extended warranty gives the opportunity to extend the standard 2 year warranty on the machine out to a maximum of 5 years on the Leaf and Lawn Vacuums. Warranty covers manufacture defects, non wearable parts, shipping of those parts and labor. Extending the warranty is a great way to protect your investment.

Q.Does a trucking Depot charge me when I pick a lawn vacuum up? Your site says free shipping. Also, why do you charge to deliver to a business?
A.Thanks for your question. When we are offering free shipping on freight products, we will ship it to a Depot for free. If that depot needs to then deliver it to a business there is an addition al charge. If picking up at the depot, they do not charge you.

Q.I have a John Deare 1025R tractor with a 60" belly mower. The mower outlet is 6" x 19". The back of the outlet is approx. 52" from the end of the 3-point hitch bar where the leaf vacuum would be towed from. My question is will I need the extra hose kit to use the DR 1328 Pro with my tractor?
A.Thank you for contacting us. With a measurement from the back of your discharge opening to the furthest point on the back of your lawn tractor, in this case the three point hitch, greater than 34" you will definitely need the extra hose kit. This will prevent the hose from coming off when making left hand turns. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions.

Q.Does the DR Leaf pro come with a deck attachment or does it have to be purchased separately?
A.Thank you for your interest in the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. The Deck Adapter is sold separately. If you currently have a bagger on your lawn mower and it has an 8" round hose opening, it would be compatible with the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum without the additional boot. Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-687-6575 if you have any other questions.

Q.What are the sizes of hose with your 3 models
A.Thank you for your question. All three of our Leaf and Lawn Vacuums use an eight inch hose. We found that this, combined with the suction power, allowed the largest amount of material to pass through the hose, into the impeller, with out clogging. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Q.Do you offer left side discharge chutes? Bvz
A.With the new design on our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum, the engine/vac unit can easily be detached by removing 2 bolts and 2 pins. You can then roll the unit away without any lifting. This re-design was set up for right side discharge lawn tractors only along with our Universal Deck Adapters.

Q.If I used the Pro unit to clean leaves around a playground area that has semi-compacted mulch under the leaves, would you expect the unit to remove none, some or most of the mulch in general? If the unit is purchased and found to remove most/all, would that be a valid reason to return the unit for a full refund?
A.Thank you for contacting us and your interest in the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum.

The Tow Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums will take in what the mowing deck sends it. Depending on the height of the deck, the moisture content of the leaves and mulch, it may pick up the mulch.

Q.What if you have two different model mowers, both two and three blade decks, 42 and 48 inch.?
A.Thanks for your question. If you wish to attach this machine to 2 different mowers with not identical decks you would need to have 2 deck adapters so they can be cut for each mower deck.

Q.If I pick this up at a depot will the shipping containers fit in my 6ft pickup truck bed?
A.The shipping dimensions for the DR Pro Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum are 77.5"L x 49"W x 41"H You would need to factor in your wheel wells and anything else that may be in the truck. And there can not be a cab on the truck, they will not load it in if there is. Please feel free to give us a call if you have other questions. We would be happy to help.
