PILOT-200 Model

The PILOT-200 model gives you all the amazing suction power you'll find on our larger models with a simplified collector and unloading mechanism. The underlying frame can also be used as a flatbed trailer (rather than the cart-style trailer found on the other models).

The collector–which has the same 200 gallon capacity as our PREMIER model–unloads in two easy steps: 1) simply unbuckle the closures on the back, and 2) release the lock lever from the front of the PILOT-200 and tilt the entire collector to the rear. The steep dump angle ensures that the load empties completely.

With the collector removed, you can use the PILOT-200 as a flatbed trailer to haul all sorts of loads around your property. It's perfect for stackable and tie-down items.

Premier model leaf vacuum reduces leaves and yard waste

Collect, Shred and Dump!

Using the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum drastically reduces the volume of leaves and other materials it collects. It starts with your mower deck which provides lift to pull lawn debris up into the spinning blade. Then the partially mulched material is channeled into our Shark Teeth Steel impeller which further reduces it before passing it in to the collector.

It's not JUST for Leaves!

In spring the DR is great for cleaning up the wind- and storm-borne debris that collects on your lawn. During the summer, it makes a terrific high-capacity bagger that will leave your lawn spotless with very little extra effort on your part. And you can use the utility cart any time of year for hundreds of hauling jobs.

Features

Accessories Add Versatility

Our Vacuum Hose lets you get at yard waste in places you can't drive your mower. And the Mulch Discharger allows you to broadcast all that debris right where you want it.

Optimal 8" Hose

Our 8" hoses offer the ideal balance—narrower hoses clog too frequently, and wider ones lose compression and suction power. We tested extensively and found 8" to be the optimal diameter.

Modular Design

Our collector top removes and folds up, and the engine rolls away on its own built-in trolley. The result: simple, space-efficient storage and year-round versatility.

Reduce a Mountain of Leaves

Our Shark-Teeth Impeller, in combination with the action of your lawn mowing blade, reduces your leaves to a fine mulch during collection. The result is rich, organic material that you can return to your garden or compost heap.

Tow-behind DR leaf vacuum converts to a utility cart

Flatbed Utility Trailer

With the upper collector and power unit detached, the PILOT's underlying flatbed makes a great, 400-pound capacity trailer. Pin hitch it to your riding mower (or ATV) and use it for all kinds of hauling chores. It's perfect for transporting stackable or tie-down items.

Collector trailer on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Huge Capacity

The PILOT model holds up to 27 cubic feet (200 gallons). The high-speed impeller reduces the volume of leaves to a fraction of their original bulk. So you'll be able to collect huge amounts of leaves and debris before you have to stop and unload.

14-inch wheels on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Big Wheels...easy Rolling!

Our 14" diameter wheels are bigger than competitive products and create a smoother roll. You can convert to dual wheel setup with our Wheel Upgrade Kit.

Trailer jack stand on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Trailer Jack Stand

Heavy-duty Trailer Jack Stand, for moving the machine easily when not in use. Adapts to pin hitch heights of 8" to 15". Stand lifts out of the way during operation. 4" diameter wheel. (Optional accessory).

Trailer jack stand on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Collector Closures

The PILOT's collector is closed by oversized buckles that are easy to grasp, even with gloves on. The collector's vertical "doors" can be held open by rebuckling them to the sides.

Works well instructions poor

The instruction for assembly are not clear and should be revised. Even with that I was able to figure it out and make it work. I did my yard and my son’s and it worked well at picking up the leaves. The leaves were mulched well and it made short work of cleaning both yards. The issue I had was when we dumped the leaves. We needed a hoe to get the leaves out of the box. It was not a simple dump. Overall I am quite satisfied with the product and happy with my purchase.

Ordering was very easy. Picked up at terminal. They were great. Returned home and assembled in garage. Easy to assemble. Used to clean out leaves from floor beds and spaces where tractor can't go because I forgot to order the adapter boot. has been a very good machine. Neighbors have stopped by and really like it. Said they would order one. Am very pleased with everyone and the machine. would buy again.

Fabulous Machine!

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
Maybe the memory of many years of manual raking leaves is still fresh in my mind and back is influencing this review, but you can't beat this machine. It's fabulous! Starts easy, maintenance is easy, assembly is easy, using it is easy. I adapted the 8-inch hose to my machine's 6-inch grass catcher chute with little difficulty. And this thing sucks up leaves and little branches quickly, thoroughly. Emptying it is easy. My father-in-law bought a DR Field and Brush mower at least 15 years ago. It sat in his leaky, unheated shed for all those years and was only used once or twice. It sat idly for soooo many years. Two years ago, I inherited it, and it started right up and runs like a champ. DR remembered who owned it, and when I called for service, they still had him in the data base. DR customer service and equipment just cannot be beaten. I'm a lifetime loyal customer from now on.

You have to put together when it arrives....took me about 2 hrs....works good tho....grinds up leaves too....be careful!! It picks up larger rocks in my dry creek bed!....I purchased the extra hose because we window leaves then vacuum up....dumps great.....they needed better thoughts on hose hook up tho....I will engineer a better system for us here.....2 things....does not like sticks at all...will clog up line.....it does not like wet soggy leaves.....and 3rd...be careful not to suck up rocks!.....good unit tho...comes in handy....great addition to our tool inventory....get one....we pull ours with a bad boy electric buggy....light weight unit....

This is really a nice unit. Its SUPER powerful, So far I have used it on my 2 acre parcel after I dethatched it all, I went over it with the vacuum hooked up to my John Deere and it cleaned it up in no time. Then on my other house i got to use it for leaves in my front yard. I used to take me all day to blow them into a pile then mulch up with my tractor, then sweep up with my sweeper and dump it onto a large tarp, then load tarp onto my 5x8 trailer and drive out to my burn pile in back. 2 TIMES just to clean up my front yard! When I used the Lawn Vacuum it took under an hour and the leaves were dumped 1 time! If I paid a landscaper to dethatch and rake up it would be almost 400 for my 2 acre lot, not to mention how many times to pick up leaves! You cant go wrong!! Only negative is its not as easy to dump as I thought it would be.

Operates and runs fine , but going from the mower deck vacuum collector box the mower deck grass deflector chute requires removal of the vacuum collector box attachment and installation of the Attachment for the original deck grass deflector. Don’t need to use vacuum every time I cut the grass but need to reinstall the deflector for safety reasons. Just an in convenience.

I have over 100 Live Oak trees on my property and have been pulling a towbehind lawn sweeper to get up the leaves. I decided to give this device a try but haven't actually used it yet. I did assemble it yesterday and was impressed by the quality of the parts and the design in general plus it was made in the USA. The mower deck adapter arrives today so maybe tomorrow I will be sucking leaves.

Fill up oil tank, otherwise engine stops at slightest slope. Really enjoying until you find out what to do after calling customer service. Gas tank tiny - requires two fills for good size yard Hose pops off frequently during turns - keep screwdriver handy to loosen and tighten hose clamp past retaining bump. Watch it closely or you risk damaging the hose as it keeps hitting the ground after it pops off. (Mine now has a small tear) Sleeve of collector container onto output chute needs better method of tightening - slide off after some time, check after dumping. I use a John Deere 324 with mulching blades and plug, leaving small opening for vacuum. It works, but not quite like on the picture (some pin oak leaves remain on ground). Possibly this might improve if plug is removed, but I find this difficult to do. Noisy - with two engines going (Mower and vacuum), get hearing protection. Discharge requires some manual prodding into the container. My first experience was a bit tedious and took longer it seems than a hand job would have. Hopefully the next one will be easier as I have learnt a few tricks. Good concept, but needs some improvements.

I've now used this product several times this fall. Assembly was not difficult; follow the directions and take your time and it all falls in place. The product was much better than expected and a great value when compared to higher priced leaf vacs from competitors, especially the big box stores and their brand. This rig is well built and very easy to start with a pull cord. You won't be disapointed.

A well-constructed product with easy access to starter/controls. the unit works tremendously at picking up and shredding leaves into the hopper bag but does not dump as well as I had hoped. the rear portion of the load falls out but then the pile at the rear of the dump cart is so high it blocks the balance from falling. then you have to move forward spreading the load or rake out the last half of the load. Overall a very good product best with a jack wheel for manually moving or lining up the hitch.

Poor Mulching

The 9.59 Pilot Tow-Behind does a very good job of picking up leaves, but I am very disappointed in the mulching. My John Deere mulches just as good as.the tow behind. I see the tow behind as a very large bagger with very little mulching. My lot is onl 2/3 of an acre, but I fill 4 to 5 loads of leaves, each filling 6 to 7 30 gal cans. I then take the leaves to a community compost pile and see mulched leaves so much smaller than mine.

The unit was easy enough to assemble, but have a few improvements that would make it much easier and cleaner to operate. First the rear doors, the inner flaps separate and let leaves and dirt blow up and out until it fills enough to hold the upper flap tight to the bottom flap and seal

I recently purchased the Pilot. I thought the instructions were well written and the videos were a lifesaver. Assembly was easy as well as cutting the hole for the adaptor. Attached it to a John Deere LA140 and it works well with it and the hose is a perfect fit. Does a nice job on a 2 acre heavily treed yard. My only issues are occasional clogging, and the debris does not dump out that easily. I have to use a rake to assist with emptying the collector. The buckles on the collector are cheaply made and one already broke. There is also a fair amount of debris that shoots out the back of the collector while working with it. Otherwise, it appears to be a well built product and I am very happy with it.

9.59 Pilot Leaf and Lawn Vac.
Posted by: PAUL M. from SANFORD, NC on 12/01/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
Vac does well what it was designed for. Lawn looked immaculate when I vacuumed two weeks of raking leaves( 1200+ gallons) in four hours. Will do two or more times and put it away for the winter here in North Carolina. However the one big negative is the tractor adapter. DR engineers need to come up w/ a better way of attaching Vac to tractor. It took me hours, any many phone calls to DR, to get it to fit my Husqvarna 42" lawn tractor. During use it disconnected several times. After the first use, I made further modifications, including making my own bracket. If I, a history teacher, can design a system that works, I'm sure DR engineers can do better. Then they would have a really great product!

I've been using the Pilot Leaf Vac with Vacuum Hose Attachment exclusively. I create a leaf pile using my gas powered leaf blower, then vacuum up the leaves rather quickly. I tow the Pilot with my Polaris Ranger Side-by-Side and store the rather long hose in the Ranger's dump bed. This setup works really well, I have no complaints. I mow several acres of grass with a John Deere 790 Compact Utility tractor and a 60" mower deck. It was not clear to me that any leaf vac could handle such a large mower deck.

We had a lawn vac that died after many years of use so I did some research and decided to purchase the DR Leaf and Lawn Vac. It is by far one of the best purchases I have made. No more raking leaves for us and my wife is happy that she doesn’t have to clean her gardens anymore.

DR Leaf and Lawn Vac

The product is of a very high quality and build. It is very nice when you order something in todays over marketed world and it exceeds your expectations. Two very minor suggestions: 1. We found the instruction on how to get it out of the crate after we got it out of the crate - it may be beneficial to have something on the crate that says - Un-crating Instructions. 2. Show a blow up of the screws for the order of Bolt, Washer, and Nut - it was unclear on were the washer went - on the head of the bolt or nut side. I strongly recommend the trailer crank jack with wheel. The unit is well made but, heavy and I found it very difficult to lift and mount the unit on the tractor until I installed the trailer jack, which works great.

Hose

Rating: Product Review Stars: 2.00 star rating
I have had this machine for 2 years and the problem I have is with the hose that connects between the mower and leaf vac. It has broken twice and did again today. DR has replaced it once but continue to have problem with it breaking usually where it attach's to the lawn vac. I have had to use gorilla tape to hold it together which is unsatisfactory. Vac does the job of picking up leaves but with the hose continuing to break it is aggravating. Also it is very inconvenient having to attach the pipe that goes into the bagger each time you empty. Requires carrying a screw driver to complete the job of emptying. More engineering is needed and certainly a better quality hose.

Nice product... would prefer the wheels to pipit like the cyclone. There needs to be a plastic 45° piece that puts the hose connection a little farther away from the leaf bagger this way it puts the house itself Out farther. Should be at least the width As outside edge to outside edge of most tires, so he can handle a 60 inch deck better. Really nice motor. Really good suction. Nice quality. Needs a little more engineering and you will have a really good product.

My Outdoor Vacuum
Posted by: Christopher F. from Morganton, GA on 11/02/2017

The 9.59 Pilot Lawn Vacuum works well to pick up grass & leaves with the lawnmower blades spinning. It's well built and rugged. The motor starts easily. A couple of notes; it is big and the hose on the side to the vacuum makes turning and maneuvering around things a little challenging. The rear flaps of the catcher bag are well made but do not trap all debris, some debris blow out the back. It does a great job of mulching the leaves for compost or the garden. The motor is quite loud, ear protection is mandatory. It took about 2 hours to assemble.

Product packaging disaster

Rating: Product Review Stars: 1.00 star rating
We were anxiously waiting on this product, but when we received the box, we didn't have most of the parts, nor did we have a manual. We called and explained that we didn't get everything and we didn't receive a manual so we didn't know what we needed. We were sent a digital manual and then had to figure out what we didn't have. We had to call twice before we were sent another box, only to find out that many of the parts were on back order, including the manual. It has been over 3 weeks. We are frustrated and wish we would have purchased a vacuum from another company. I want my money back.
Response from DR SupportThank you for taking the time to write a review. We value feedback from our customers, in all forms. We're sorry to hear that the packaging was damaged during delivery and some of the parts went missing. We see that all the parts have shipped out. We hope that this has rectified any problems you were still experiencing. If you are still unsatisfied, please give us a call and our Customer Service Department would be happy to work with you on returning the machine.

Again, thank you for contacting us regarding this and we apologize for the inconvenience.

first of all, the hose sticks out to far and can hit up against objects which is very inconvenient. the dumping of this unit is time consuming and the unbuckling is not a very good idea. i guess i thought it was suppose to be easy. this model is different than the other models i thought it was. shame on me. but it does pick up leaves very well.

Great product. The assembly went very well, no missing parts. I have used it and it does a good job with plenty of vacuum power. I gave the 9.59 Pilot 4 stars because when turning a tight left turn the engine air filter box hits the back of my John Deere 318 fender. The tongue needs to be a foot longer. Also the discharge adapter is for smaller mower decks not for my 50 in. Had to do a lot of modifying to make it work.

Assembling the vacuum was much easier especially after watching the video including trimming the adaptor. I've used it twice already and been impressed with how well it cleans up the yard. Only problem I've experienced is SHARP left turns pulling the vacuum hose away from the adaptor. I just wish DR would include the jack stand as standard not an accessory item.

Assembly was well documented in the instructions. I built a custom attachment for the mower deck and it works very well. In two hours I picked up a fully covered 1/2 acre of leaves from maple, oak and other trees with no problem. It took 6 loads of combined leaves and grass and did a great job of mulching it all. Motor was very smooth.

My 1st problem began right out of the box. My unit was missing the bagger front support bar. I contacted them and they agreed to ship one out asap. It only took 13 days to receive the part that's after I sent 2 inquiries on its status and got no response. Finally I was able to use the product today. Everything seems ok except that all the leaves blow right out the back of the bagger. The only way I was able to productively use the unit was to run the engine at low idle.

Could be Better
Posted by: Jeryl W. from Eldon, MO on 10/10/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
After three issues and an improvement, it works OK. First issue was the top of the cardboard shipping container wasn't fastened down nor noted as such, so on the highway in an open trailer, the lid blew off into trailing traffic! Frayed nerves, but no harm, thank goodness! A note or labeling on the container to secure the lid would be helpful and solve a safety issue. Second issue was that upon initial engine start, the engine would not run unless the choke was half closed. A call to the Tech Dept resulted in an idea to let the carb soak in SeaFoam for some time, then try running it again. I didn't but after running it for about 15 minutes, then opening the choke fully, it ran ok and re-started normally. No further problem, but the plant should insure a proper functioning engine before shipping. Third issue was after 7 loads of leaves and grass, the stitching at the top of one rear closure flap tore out leaving an 8" gap for the residue to blow out. Not harmful, but messy. Never found out why but a call to customer service resulted in an immediate shipment of a new bag as a warranted replacement, no questions asked. GREAT! Finally, the issue was emptying a full load. Required a lot of effort to bounce the rear of the cart off the ground time and again to dislodge most of the contents, pull ahead a ways, then reach under the bag and hit the bottom repeatedly to get the rest of the load out. My solution was to build a "bag drag" device, place it on the inside while loading, then use an attached rope to pull it, and the full load, out the rear without tilting the trailer, tearing the bag or pulling ahead to get room to finish emptying the load. Would be happy to provide details if requested.

Meets my expectations for DR tools
Posted by: Gerry B. from New Wilmington, PA on 09/21/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
My order arrived promptly as promised. The pallet did not fit my 4 foot wide trailer but with help of the truck depot crew we unpacked and loaded the parts. Assembly was straightforward following the directions supplied. (I had reviewed the on-line videos prior to purchase so I had some idea of what to expect.) The hardest part was stretching the heavy canvas of the catching bag but everything fit properly and the end result is a sturdy solid tool. An assistant would have been helpful but was not necessary. After adding oil, the engine started with only a few strong pulls. Fitting the adaptor to my mower took more time than the assembly of the unit. Connection to the mower is easy with the thumbscrew pipe band. It took some practice to get used to the turning radius larger than I am used to with my 4 wheel steering but the vacuum performance was excellent with the grass and leaves on my lumpy, irregular 1.5 acre lawn. It is LOUD; hearing protection is a must. I quickly decided that the optional trailer jack stand was desirable since the tongue weight is awkwardly heavy for moving around the garage. The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is built to the sturdy quality of my other DR tools; DR personnel are friendly and helpful and deliver results at the promised time. I'm looking forward to the full Fall leaf season to give it a thorough workout.

9.5 Pilot Tow-Behind DR Leaf & Lawn Vacuum
Posted by: Eusebio Flores from Burke, VA on 09/21/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
The assembly of this product was straightforward on the included directions. Fortunately, I also purchased a pre-fabricated mower deck shute adapter for my JD-D140 (from a separate company) and clamped the female end of the DR's hose over it. After installing oil and gasoline into the leaf vacuum engine, she turned on instantly, without difficulty. Then, I attached her to my JD's tow hitch and mowed my 1 acre lawn. She vacuumed all of the grass clippings without having to stop ONCE. Then, I dumped those lawn clippings with ease into the forrested area behind my yard (also my property). I truly look forward to putting her to the challenge during the fall to vacuum the thousands of oak & maple tree leaves from my garden. I imagine she will have NO problem. Having used a tow-behind lawn sweeper for the last 3 years, I now can and will save HOURS of labor as I will NOT have to stop and dump the lawn debris repeatedly. Also, I am impressed with DR's customer service as 2 bolts were missing from the accessory Jack Stand/wheel assembly. They shipped the 2 bolts, and I was able to attach the jack stand immideately thereafter, which makes it much easier to roll around in my storage shed! 5 stars for both product and customer service!

Product Q&A
Ask a Question for This Product
Sort By:
Q.1) Does this unit require an adapter between the deck and the discharge hose? If so, is it included in the unit price? 2) Is there a removable extension hose between the mower and the trailer that supports the vac and motor? Thanks.
A.A Deck Boot (adapter) is necessary in order to connect the lawn deck discharge with the inlet hose of the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum.

If your discharge opening on your lawn tractor is less than 6" high and 19" wide, our standard deck boot will make the connection between your tractor and our hose system. It does require some modifications, as cutting and drilling is involved. We also offer an angled deck adapter.

These deck boot adapters are not included in the price of the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. If our adapters will not fit with your mower's lawn deck, you may be able to locate a custom fit boot by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower.

Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums also come with a removable 8" ID blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet which is 72" in length. If you need a longer length of hose, we do offer an optional Extra Hose Kit that extends the blower inlet hose by 3 feet for larger lawn tractors.

Thanks for your interest and questions on the Premier Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. ph

Q.Aside from grass clippings and leaves, does the Premier model pickup and chop-up twigs and small branches? If so, can you give me an idea of how long and what diameter twigs and branches it will handle? Thanks.
A.The Premier model can mulch branches and twigs that your mower deck is capable of lifting. The twigs would need to be small enough to fit thru the 8" hose between the mower and the vacuum.

Q.What about unwanted moisture collection? Not all leaves and grasses are dry. Can this gadget wick moisture or can it be opened for cleaning and "drying" if needed?
A.The Leaf & Lawn Vac has ample vacuum to handle wet leaves and the container can easily be opened to dry out if needed. The hoses can easily be disconnected and left to dry as well, although both the container and hoses are made of high quality PVC material which is impervious to mold or rot. I hope that this answers your questions. If you'd like to order the leaf vacuum, please call us at 800-376-9637 and speak with a Sales Rep to determine compatibility with your mower.

Q.Will it pick-up walnuts and not hurt the leaf vac?

Q.When I am picking up the leaves with the hand held hose will I also be picking up the rocks?
A.The Leaf Vacuum will pick up small rocks if you are not careful. When using the hand held hose you can hold the nozzle a little higher and just pick up the leaves without getting rocks. Also, when using the lawn deck you would want to adjust the height of the deck a little higher so that you avoid the rocks as well. The shredding teeth on the impeller are very durable.

Q.I have a sixty-inch deck on my lawn tractor. Will the Premier be compatible with it?
A.One of the most important things to check for compatibility would be the dimensions of the discharge opening on your mower deck to ensure it is compatible with our universal deck boot. The deck boot requires a right hand side discharge, a maximum opening height of 6" or less, and a maximum opening width of 19" or less. If your lawn deck opening does not fall within these dimensions, you can check with your mower manufacturer as often they may a deck boot that will work. With the size of your lawn deck, you may need to consider the larger model to ensure you have proper suction for the amount of discharge your mower creates depending on your property. The best recommendation I have for you would be to call our sales department so we can discuss with you your mower, operating conditions, etc. so we can best get an understanding of what will work the best for you. Q.How easy is it to switch from the mower deck to the hand held vacuum hose after mown?
A.Thank you for contacting us.

It is very easy to switch the hose from the mowing deck to the vacuum hose. Simply remove the hose from the mowing deck by loosening the hose clamp by hand, no tools required, and insert the vacuum hose attachment. It will give you about 21 feet of reach.

Please contact us if you have further questions. PL

Q.Who really makes the engine? Is it made in usa?
A.The DR engine featured on our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is manufactured for us by Rato. The engine is manufactured in China. The machine itself is assembled at our factory in Vermont. The engines feature a 2 year warranty standard, with an option to extend to a full 5 years. This is a great way to protect your investment.

We have had great success with the DR engine and have been using it for years on some of our other equipment.

Q.I am interested in your DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum Premier, Tow-Behind. My question is what comes with this unit? I called your office on Friday and asked, for the size for my yard what size unit I should get. Was told this should work fine. What if it doesn't do the job it should, can I exchange it for the size larger?
A.Thank you for contacting us.

The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum comes with the hose that attaches to the mowing deck. It also comes with a 2 year warranty that covers parts, labor and the shipping of the parts as well as a 1 year hands on trial. Here is the web page with the details;

Q.The description for the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum Premier model says it's designed for smaller properties. The area I need to maintain is about 1/2 acre with lots of thick grass that gets out of control in a hurry, so when I mow, it's typically a little taller than the average lawn. I also have 3 large butternut trees that drop a ton of leaves and a heavy crop of nuts in the fall. Would the Premier be a good choice for me, or should I consider stepping up to the Pro model? Thanks in advance.
A.Thank you for contacting us.

The Premier model will handle your 1/2 acre property very well. The size of the mowing deck will also determine which Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work best for you. We recommend up to a 52" wide mowing deck for the Premier model. If your deck is larger than that, I would recommend stepping up to the Pro or Pro XL model, depending on the size of the deck.

Please contact us if you have further questions. PL

Q.Break down for storage, Does the tow-behind leaf vacuum break down or fold for storage?
A.Yes, it is actually very simple to disassemble the collector, hoses, and outlet duct for storage purposes. The collector can be removed by sliding out the hinge pin. For long term storage the collector collapses in just a few mintues and without tools. The hoses can all be removed by unscrewing the mounting hose clamp on each. Once you are familiar with the assembly of this machine, the average person can disassemble it for storage in a matter of about 15 - 30 minutes.

Q.Can this unit discharge collected material to another collection conveyance like a trailer should you need to haul your clippings to the local land-fill?
A.Our Tow-behind models feature an optional mulch discharge hose. This hose works in unison with our optional vacuum hose. Together they can clean out the back of the container and discharge the material into a desired location with the 17' discharge hose. Below are links to these hoses. This is a great way to get the mulched vegetation into a specific location. Thank you for your interest.

Q.Any issue with towing behind an ATV? I would expect to use the hose attachment for over the wall and in gardens where fall/spring cleanup is needed.
A.Yes, you can tow the Leaf Vacuum with an ATV. We have a number of customers that do not attach the hose to a lawn deck, but rather tow from spot to spot and use the vacuum hose to manually pickup leaves. That will work just fine! Thank you.

Q.Will this unit fit my zero turn mower?
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work with most conventional-style riding lawn tractors and Z-steer mowers that have a front, mid or belly-mounted lawn deck. The Premier models can be attached to tractors with a 12 HP minimum for use on level terrain. To help determine whether the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is compatible with your mower, please review the list of questions below. This information will also help you decide which model is appropriate for your riding mower. 1. What is the Cutting Width of your mower? 2. Do you currently have a bagging or collection system for your lawn mower? If so, is the diameter of the boot’s discharge opening between 8"? The blower inlet hose on the DR measures 8" in diameter, but we also have adapters for boots with diameters of up to 8". If you do not, our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot, can be modified to fit lawn decks that have a discharge opening up to 6" high by 19" wide. If our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot will not fit with your mower’s lawn deck, you may be able to locate a boot by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower. 3. Do you have a pin hitch on the back of your tractor between 8" and 15" from the ground? If not, is there a secure place on the back of your tractor to mount a hitch plate? If you are in need of a Hitch Plate or opted for the Dual Point Hitch Kit, what is the distance between the rear wheels on your mower? 4. What is the distance from the back opening of the discharge on the lawn mower to the back of the furthest point of the back of the tractor? If the distance is 40 inches or less, our standard blower inlet hose will be sufficient. However, if this distance is between 41 inches and 7 feet, then our optional Hose Extension Kit is required. If the distance is greater than 7 feet, the mower is too large to be used with the DR. If you have more questions or would like to place a phone order, please feel free to give our Sales Team a call at Toll Free 1-888-550-0062, Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 7 pm, Saturday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, Eastern Time. Q.Are the 8" hoses on the Lawn-Vacuum damaged by exposure to sunlight, water or biological activity from the leaves as they decay? What are the hoses made of?
A.The 8" hoses on the Leaf & Lawn Vac are made from a very flexible, UV resistant PVC plastic that will repel water. By the term "biological activity" I must assume your concern is that decaying leaves might harm the PVC. We did not experience any problems with that process in Product Testing, nor have I heard of it from any customers in the 8 years we've been selling the product. I hope that this answers your questions. If you'd like to order the Leaf & Lawn Vac, please call us at 800-376-9637 for compatibility with your mower.

Q.Will this product pick-up leaves over a sandy area instead of grass? We live on a lake and have a wooded lot with no grass. After eliminating the ferns our ground is all sand with some areas around the house having mulch. We could use the vacuum attachment over the mulch but I am concerned about the very large area that is all sand. Will this unit be effective in this type of application?
A.Yes, although you will need to carefully adjust the mower deck. If too close to the ground, it will pick up an inordinate amount of sand, and if too high, it will not pick up the leaves effectively.

Q.How much width do each of the models add to the tractor? e.g., A 60" deck + hose & adapter width = total width of machines. Need to know as we have vineyard & orchard rows to clean up.
A.Thank you for contacting us and your interest in the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuums.

The overall width of the Premier model is 34.7" and the Pro and the Pro XL models have an overall width of 47.62". The Universal Deck Boot is the only item that will add width to your tractor as you have a 60" wide deck. The Universal Deck Boot is 13" wide, however that may lessen as you will be cutting the deck boot to fit your deck.

Q.Does the tow-behind leaf and lawn vacuum come with everything needed to hook up and go?
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums come with the standard size blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet. The Deck Adapter, Vacuum Hose, Mulch Discharge Hose and the Extra Hose Kit are all optional attachments.

Our Deck Adapter fits discharge openings that are no more than 6" high and 19" wide, so some modifications are required such as cutting and drilling. Also, our Deck Adapter can only be fitted for right side discharge mowers. If our Deck Adapter will not fit with your mower's lawn deck, you may be able to locate a Deck Adapter by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower.

Q.Will this vacuum work on alpaca feces? The actual question would be does the vacuum action have enough power to pull small round pellets that would lie below the lawn mower blades.
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum has tremendous suction! Whatever material your mower deck can lift, the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will suck the debris through the impeller. When you mow with the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum attached, you get approximately 10 times the lifting power of your mower alone. The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is designed to vacuum yard waste such as leaves, grass, small twigs, pine cones and will work for any debris that’s safe for your mower blades. Since we have no specific performance data on using the Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum for vacuuming animal waste, we cannot guarantee our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will perform like a Paddock Vacuum, which is designed for the collection of manure and debris from paddocks, yards and stables. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact us at Toll Free 1-888-550-0062 and a Sales Representative will be happy to help you.

If, however, that distance is between 40 inches and 7 feet you will need to order the Extra Hose Kit, #35162. Q.Will the tow-behind leaf/lawn vacuum pick up acorns? We have a ton of oak trees, and the horses are addicted to acorns, so we are looking for a way to get rid of them.
A.The blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet is now larger in diameter. We went from a 6 inch ID hose to an 8 inch ID hose for improved suction. The Premier at 66 mph and the Pro/Pro-XL at 72 mph. A larger diameter hose also means less likely to clog.

Whatever material your mower deck can lift, our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will suck the debris through the impeller and mulch it. When you mow with the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum attached, you will get approximately 10 times the lifting power of your mower alone.

We also offer the optional handheld vacuum hose, which works well if the acorns are imbedded in the ground or if you have longer grasses to vacuum them from. This ergonomically designed hose can be used in those hard-to-reach spots and attaches easily and quickly.

A.On very level terrain, the Premier mdoel can be used with an engine as small as 12 HP, otherwise 14 HP or greater engine is recommended. This vac fits right-sided discharge chutes only. It can be used with most zero-turn mowers. Since there are many brands and models of mowers out there, we suggest calling in and speaking with a Sales Rep directly for mower compatibility. Through a series of questions and measurements compatibility can be determined. A Rep may be reached at 1-800-376-9637.
