9.59 Premier Model

The PREMIER, our most compact tow-behind Leaf and Lawn Vac, holds up to 200 gallons of leaves and/or grass clippings. Its aggressive shredding action lets you work for long stretches without emptying the reservoir.

The powerful 9.59 ft. lbs. torque engine (223 cc) engine, in combination with the massive Shark-Teeth impeller, creates tremendous airflow that virtually eliminates clogs and leaves your lawn beautifully free of debris.

The easy-opening clamshell collector and backless cart (with a steep 60-degree dump angle) ensures that unloading is fast, easy and thorough.

Premier model leaf vacuum reduces leaves and yard waste

Collect, Shred and Dump!

Using the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum drastically reduces the volume of leaves and other materials it collects. It starts with your mower deck which provides lift to pull lawn debris up into the spinning blade. Then the partially mulched material is channeled into our Shark Teeth Steel impeller which further reduces it before passing it in to the collector.

It's not JUST for Leaves!

In spring the DR is great for cleaning up the wind- and storm-borne debris that collects on your lawn. During the summer, it makes a terrific high-capacity bagger that will leave your lawn spotless with very little extra effort on your part. And you can use the utility card any time of year for hundreds of hauling jobs.

Features

Accessories Add Versatility

Our Vacuum Hose lets you get at yard waste in places you can't drive your mower. And the Mulch Discharger allows you to broadcast all that debris right where you want it.

Optimal 8" Hose

Our 8" hoses offer the ideal balance–narrower hoses clog too frequently, and wider ones lose compression and suction power. We tested extensively and found 8" to be the optimal diameter.

Modular Design

Our collector top removes and folds up, and the engine rolls away on its own built-in trolley. The result: simple, space-efficient storage and year-round versatility.

Reduce a Mountain of Leaves

Our Shark-Teeth Impeller, in combination with the action of your lawn mowing blade, reduces your leaves to a fine mulch during collection. The result is rich, organic material that you can return to your garden or compost heap.

Tow-behind DR leaf vacuum converts to a utility cart

Utility Cart

With the upper collector and power unit detached, the cart bed makes a great all-purpose utility trailer. Pin hitch it to your riding mower (or ATV) and use it for all kinds of landscaping and hauling chores. The Premier model has a 500 pound capacity.

Keystart on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Electric Start Available

The Premier model is available with electric-start (with manual recoil backup). The 9-amp battery recharges during use, for instant starts with the turn of a key.

Collector trailer on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Huge Capacity

The PREMIER model holds up to 27 cubic feet (200 gallons). The high-speed impeller reduces the volume of leaves to a fraction of their original bulk. So you'll be able to collect huge amounts of leaves and debris before you have to stop and unload.

14-inch wheels on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Big Wheels...easy Rolling!

Our 14" diameter wheels are bigger than competitive products and create a smoother roll. You can convert to dual wheel setup with our Wheel Upgrade Kit.

Trailer jack stand on the tow-behind DR leaf vacuum

Trailer Jack Stand

Heavy-duty Trailer Jack Stand, for moving the machine easily when not in use. Adapts to pin hitch heights of 8" to 15". Stand lifts out of the way during operation. 4" diameter wheel. (Optional accessory).

ONE MONTH use. hose split.
Posted by: R K. from Grand Rapids, MI on 06/18/2018
Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
I already reviewed first use was easy to put together. I liked all but toungue weight is heavy. get the jack option. STARTS EASY - So I've mowed my lawn 5 times. Today I noticed. not sure when it happened a split in the main hose about 18 up from the adapter. The hose kinks a little at this spot and when I moved it I noticed it's split at the seam the black wire about 6 inches wide. It still worked, but 1. I'm concerned about how well it lasts. And 2. I hate to duct tape my brand new vac. neighbors will point and laugh. Hoping I installed it right. Or is this a warranty issue

I use the Lawn Vac in a hilly and rocky area. There are several tree stumps and roots that are low enough to not be seen, but high enough to stop the lawn tractor. The leaves were too deep for me to use the device as designed. So, for first time use, I blew the leaves in big piles, then sucked them through the hose. It worked great. Last year it tpok over two weeks to complete what it took a day and a half to do. After the initial pickup, I installed the hose on the mower attachment. I have two acres. I had it cleaned in less than 3 hours, even working around the stumps. I am very pleased with my Leaf and Lawn Vacuum.

Just what I needed.

I used this to clean up the area around my pool which collects leaves every winter. The motor starts with one pull every time. The only complaint after one use is that it spits out a dust storm of fine debris out the back. If you have it parked in one spot while you use the hose, make sure the back of the unit points away from anything you don't want covered in leaf dust! The shipping pallet had some parts that were dislodged but no affect to the unit though. I recommend DR secure the shipping cover to the box. The pallet is big over 4' wide and 6-7' long.

This unit was easily the most thoroughly designed kit I have ever assembled. I had looked at the assembly videos on the website before the purchase therefore when I read the directions during the assembly it all made sense. Others expressed difficulty in stretching the frame into bag and I would have been baffled by the written directions for that part if I hadn't seen the video. The parts all seem high quality, the welds look good, the bolt bags were organized and labeled very well. I was very pleased with the way the leaves were ground up and emptying of the hopper was easy. I ordered with electric start and it works well. All in all the whole experience was great. I would not hesitate recommending this Vacuum.

Premier leaf vac

This machine vacuums well EXCEPT for one serious issue, read on. This issues is extremely frustrating. I have a tractor(Kubota Gr-2110) that has a tight turning radious but is NOT a zero turn. No matter how careful I am, the vacuum hose constantly pulls off of the deck adapter. You can tighten the clamp all you want, as tight as you want, and it WILL still happen. The hose is just too short. DR was aware of the type of tractor I had when this machine was ordered. This issue has been raised before on the reviews but apparently not addressed by DR. They should supply longer hoses when ordering for tractors that have a sharp turning radius. If you have a tractor that has other than the normal turning radious, you WILL need to carry a screw driver and reattach the hose when it pulls off. The problem gets worse over time. It does vacuum well, but for this kind of money, you shouldn't have this problem. DR, are you listening? Please address this issue as another expensive hose should not have to be purchased to try to compensate for this very real problem.

My Lawn VAC
Posted by: LAURA B. from FREDERICK, MD on 10/30/2017

Was not easy to put together. Especially the adapter deck. My Husband wilted away at it so he would get a perfect fit for 8 hours and one broken saw blade later and it still has a gap where it meets the mower deck. Ugh... Also the handle to the ban that goes round the hose broke the very first time we went to tighten it. Even with the gap it did pick up the leaves. So we hope we can eventually get the connection to not have a gap and for the hose not to pop out on wide turns.

Works Great!

This vacuum works great. Better than I expected. Was delivered to a local shipping company. You need a few tools to remove it from the pallet. It all fit nicely into the back of my Toyota Sequoia with the 3rd row seats removed. Would easily fit in the bed of a pick-up. Put it together on my own in a couple hours (took my time). I don't think it will fold up quite as easy as the videos suggest, but we will see at the end of the season. I have a 2 acre lot with lots of trees on the perimeter. This vacuum makes very quick work of all the leaves. Great suction and reduces the leaves to a simple pile. The trailer capacity is good, and dumping is easy. The one-hand dumping is awesome! I used to spend many hours blowing, raking and dragging leaves every weekend in the fall. I now have time to watch football and my back feels great!

Impressed

The most concerning step in preparing the vacuum was installing the boot on the mower deck. I had to bolt a new bracket onto my deck top as mine is an older JD 316. When necessary, a new bracket has to be set before cutting the boot! A new bracket has to be set where bolts can be drilled through and still clear all the mower deck mechanics as well as allow the boot to avoid mower deck operational mechanics like deck-wheels. If not mechanically inclined, I recommend consultation and assistance from a person everyone knows who is a fixer. I traced the opening as described and drilled 1/2 inch holes in strategic spots to insert a handheld key-hole saw. I suggest a conservative first cut and then nibble out more material until the mower deck opening is just cleared. The bottom of the boot then has to be cut out, but just so far as to at most meet the bottom mower deck rail or, without a bottom rail on the mower deck, cut out enough to avoid the mower blades. The boot can also be nibbled with sheet-metal nippers. Once the boot is attached to the deck, it will need to be nibbled in the corners and front and rear edges just enough so that it can be raised freely as it pivots on the hinge bracket. THIS IS A CRUCIAL TEDIOUS TASK, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY DOABLE AND A SATISFYING ACCOMPLISHMENT. IF IT IS DONE WRONG, ONE WILL BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE MACHINE. One will truly have to put full weight upon the front internal frame piece as instructed in assembly. I thought it might rip the material skin, but it does fit very snug. It helped me to put the bottom front frame piece in first to spread the fabric some before the top front piece went in under full body-weight by stepping upon it. Everything else was very easy to assemble and the machine works really well. The mower deck has to be fully lowered for good suction and the suction is very good. The emptying mechanism is a breeze. The Premier model is perfect for the JD 316 and it seems clear that anything bigger would be too much of a load. I do NOT plan on collapsing the unit for storage because installing the internal front upper frame piece was a significant chore. The top can still be removed for use as an open cart without collapsing the collector.

I recently purchased the DR leaf vaccum. It was delivered promptly and was packaged very well. Assembly of the unit was very straight forward. I had quite a bit of trouble with cutting the universal deck adapter. My mower deck did not seem to properly fit the adapter. It is a very old mower so probably that was the problem. However finally got it to fit after cutting some additional shims. The unit works great. It produced much more suction than I anticipated. I am very impressed with the heavy duty quality of the unit and the way it operates. It is a very good value for the money.

It took a little longer to assemble than I had thought it would. I wasn't difficult, just a little time consuming. But it was sure worth it. After getting everything in place - to include oil and gasoline in the engine - three pulls on the starter rope and the engine fired right up. That's not bad at all. the electric start works great too and was worth the money - my wife can start this thing up very easily. Boy does this thing have suction. I am very pleased and impressed with this item.

The vac works great as a lawn Vac. Assembly was not great instructions could be better. The extra length tube for a zero turn mower was not included even though I discussed needing it when ordered. I was not billed for it on original order but it cost me extra shipping to get it. Free shipping is deceptive it was free to a depot 45 miles from my home and would have cost a 150 to ship to my door. That is not my Idea of free shipping.

Very pleased with leaf vac. Have a big yard with big trees. Ordered thru dealer that did the assembly. Starts first time but use choke each start. Patience and clockwise around yard with my JD mower. I have Sycamores which have large leaves. Makes great mulch for beds or compost. Mine winters in a shed with fuel extender in gas. Customer Service outstanding. Had minor issue with hose which they solved beyond my expectations. Recommend

This model has proven to be the perfect solution for ridding my yard of leaves. Assembly was straightforward, and took me about 3 hours. With the 6"-to-8" adapter, connecting the vacuum to my tractor was easy. With the vacuum, I am now able to 8-10 hours of work in about 2 hours, with better results. I highly recommend this product!

Finally, something well made!

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
I have about 2 acres with fenced in huge deciduous trees in Michigan. Raking is always a major job, and takes the whole family multiple weekends. Lawn sweeper didn't come close to working out for us. This leaf vacuum is awesome! It is so much better quality than I expected. The only obvious commodity items are the engine and wheels, really, but that's to be expected these days. They are good quality anyway. The rest is very stout, very well engineered, specially made, and it works very well. I was afraid the Premier would not be big or powerful enough for my property, but it is plenty big and powerful. Very strong suction, great mulching power, and it really reduces the volume like they show on the videos, which I wasn't sure I believed. Now I do. Assembly was not fun, and took about 5 or 6 hours. Getting the bag onto the frame was very hard, and it feels like you are breaking the bag, frame, or both. It would be great if DR designed a cheap spreader bar, or at least include a 2x2 of the right length to aid in installation. I had to adapt the mower deck boot to my Cub Cadet 54" stamped deck. It was tricky, no perfect way to do it, had to Jerry-rig it with some woodworking that was way off any instructions or advice from DR, but there is plenty of suction to make up for imperfect installation, so don't worry too much. Just be prepared to take your time, think things through before you cut or drill, and be creative. Overall, this is the highest quality piece of power equipment I had seen in a long time. I am happy I invested in it; it will free up several weekends for my family every year and provide quite a bit of real mulch and compost to boot (not just a pile of leaves).

Over all this is a very good product. However, there are two issues I have with it. First you can’t make too sharp of a left-hand turn because the hose will pull off the deck adapter with the supplied amount of hose. You can resolve this issue for an additional $70 hose extension. I could not justify this expense for only needing an additional 6 inches of hose. Second issue is the enclosure sleeve is barely long enough to stay attached to the outlet chute. When you go up a hill and reach the crown it will pull apart and start blow debris at the back of your head (not a fun thing). Other than those two items I like the job it does.

Impressed by the engineering, solid construction and ease of use. I do wish I had gotten the electric start, but the unit starts dependably. I have used the cart all season to haul dirt+stones and would advise anyone thinking of buying the new unit with the flat bed to put thought into the decision. That dump cart is sturdy and super useful. My next purchase will be the kit so I can blow leaves directly from piles (dumped by vac) directly into my trailer to take to the landfill. I recommend the dr lawn vac to everyone I know.

Initial thoughts on the DR Premier

We have put the new Premier together and tested it briefly (about 20 min.). I'm 80 and putting it together was not easy for me, but with the help of my daughter and son-in-law, we managed. Generally, I like the engineering that I see in it, and feel that it worked well during our short test. I will test it more thoroughly this fall when the leaves fall.

This will virtually eliminate yard raking. My only negative comment is that the deck adaptor needs to be re-evaluated. The universal is really generic and a pain to fit even following the instructional video.

Pricey, But Works Well

I've been using my Premier Leaf & Lawn Vacuum for about a month. Assembly was straightforward and everything fit exactly where it was supposed to fit. The vacuum works extremely well with my John Deere D140 48" mower deck. The DR engine is loud, and I recommend hearing protection when you run it. It starts on the first or second pull with no issues. The significant extra length when towing this vacuum requires a change in mowing patterns, and very tight turns are difficult. I had an issue with the vacuum hose coming off of the deck adapter in tight left-hand turns, but putting small screws through the band clamp into the hose end connector solved the problem. I got the optional extra wheel set and the optional trailer jack stand - I recommend getting both. Overall, I am very happy with this vac. It is pricey, but does the job well on my 2 1/2 acre lot. No more clumps of grass on the lawn, and no more clogged hoses like I had on my JD collection system.

Only one big complaint
Posted by: david Jones from Cochranville, PA on 08/24/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 3.00 star rating
Near impossible to empty when full after cutting lawn since grass packs in so tight. When I checked with DR support they said only fill it half way or pick up leaves and not grass which makes the product only half as useful. Product was. Or advertised for leaves only. Very disappointed. Product needs to be modified so hopper can be emptied as easily as advertised. Other then that the product is well designed and built. I would appreciate a more more responsive answer to my concern.

I had years of chopped leaf and grass debris on my lot. After putting my Vacuum together and fitting the adapter to my John Deere mower deck I tried it out. When I got through that 1.4 acre lot, I had vacuumed eight full loads. We have gotten rain since and my grass is in HEAVEN, it actually can grow now that it is no longer smothered by all that trash!!!! It even picked up most of the acorns!!!!! I will only have to use the vacuum maybe twice a year, it is a GREAT product and I can not be any happier.

I finally got to set up and use my DR Leaf and Vacuum unit. The set up was easy although I did have a little difficulty with the cover assembly, everything else was great. It does a great job with leaves and what few pine cones I have. I did my research and chose DR. I'm glad I did. It performs very well for me as I have difficulty with standing trying to rake. A great asset for me. I have also ordered the DR Wheeled String Trimmer and I am sure I will enjoy this item too. It is great to know that there are still a few companies left in America that takes pride in their work and stands behind their product the way DR does.

Leaf and Lawn Vacuum Review
Posted by: Chris M. from Palmyra, VA on 03/27/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
Outstanding piece of equipment! Chews leaves thoroughly along with small branches and twigs. Wish I this tool long ago! That being said, just a couple of minor design issues that I would like DR to change. Bought the extra length of hose to suck up leaves, very nice. However, the hose clamp that holds the hose to the deck adaptor blows off when cutting the lawn. Maybe add a ridge lip to the hose adaptor so that the clamp will GRAB onto it when fastening down. The jack stand is also too low to the ground when attached to the towing receiver...maybe have a jack stand that folds away? AND...please design a hose carrier for the vacuum. When riding the mower, the long hose must be stacked on top of the DR Vacuum to transport. Some sort of hose holder during transport would be great! Other than few design issues, LOVE IT!

Don't believe the shipping dates. Took over a month to get it and never a word from the company until I called them. But once I got it, it works great. Definitely watch assembly videos, but realize they are old and some things are not the same. So check the manual as well. If you order the extra hose for cleaning flower beds, realize it is bulky and somewhat cumbersome to move around. But in the end, worth it by the amount of time it saved us. What used to take several weekends took only a day and a half.

Assembly of top a pain in the canvass
Posted by: BRENT O. from BURKBURNETT, TX on 02/15/2017
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
Installing the top rear stretcher bar required building a screw stretcher between the rear upright bars to install what is supposed to go in with a push of the foot. If I had followed the instructions the bar would have ripped the side canvas. This is definitely not an easy part to remove for collapsing the top because of the tightness of the canvass. Don't expect to break it down for storage more than twice a year.

Between my property and my mother in laws, we have about 6 acres of tree filled goodness to address in the fall. We have been here for about 20 years. We used to pick up the leaves with my John Deere PowerFlow bagging system and although works basically the same as this, the amount of trips to the dumping area was many. This is an animal. It holds about 8 times the amount of my bagger and it reduces leaves to a smaller mulch. Only draw back it that the assembly was tedious because the stretching of the canvass was difficult on the frame. Also, the deck adapter instructions are poor at best. If you're handy though, you can adapt it.

DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum 9.59 Premier
Posted by: Michael F. from PADUCAH, KY on 12/02/2016
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
Like all of the DR Power equipment I own it works even better then advertised. I have 3 acres with a lot of trees so it fills up the trailer a lot quicker then expected. If you let it get over filled (Is that the correct word.) it will compress the mulched up leaves to where you have to work to get the leaves out. This is only an operator error and not a ding on the vacuum. If you plan to use it on a ZTR mower you will need to scroll to the bottom of the screen and order the extend hose kit or the hose on the mower deck will come off on right hand turns. The vacuum hose kit to use it like a shop vac is a little heavy and not that easy to use. You would be better of spending the money on a leaf blower to move the leafs to where the mower can run over them. The hose and deck adapter they charge shipping but just toss it in the crate with the leaf and lawn vac. Shipping on extras that are shipped in the crate is a rip off. I am still mad about that but I am very happy with the system.

Worth every penny!

I live in an area that is surrounded with oak trees. Every year in the fall my wife and I spend most of our free time raking up everybody else's leaves that naturally blow onto our property. We finally had enough and started comparing leaf vacuums. We chose the DR Premier because of it's ease to store and the ability to break it down for the haul to our lake place two hours away. Assembly was pretty straight forward but I did have difficulty stretching out the canvas lid to get the back rail on. I also found it frustrating to cut out the opening for the discharge adapter. People on YouTube freehand the cutting marks for the opening but I found easier and more precise to make a template with a piece of cardboard. Once I got the unit operational I was very satisfied with how it performed. I was overly impressed with the hand held attachment for cleaning out landscaping and bigger piles of leaves. This accessory is well worth the money and in my opinion justifies the entire purchase. Make sure to be careful when working around landscaping that has smaller stones and lawn ornaments. It's impossible to see them when they are covered with leaves. I unintentionally sucked up a good size stone that thankfully settled in the hose and did not reach the impellor. The job of us raking and picking up leaves on our property would usually take two full days. With the DR Lawn Vacuum I was able to do it in a few hours, by myself. Like I said, "Worth every penny!"

I picked up my leaf and lawn vacuum at the trucker two weeks ago. It took me 4 hours from opening the box to sucking leaves. The instructions were pretty straight forward and I did it without help. I got the electric start and glad I did. I was late to starting my leaves and this machine ate piles of leaves, both dry and wet. I did not clog it once. Now a chore I hated is not so bad. Thanks DR.

I got the premier and had a bit of trouble with the assembly the customer service people are great as far as parts replacements on the warrantee at least once you can get ahold of them as the line rings busy also the site lists open Saturday but no one picks up the phone. I didn't get the additional hose kit but when your tractor can't get into a spot I can see where it will come in handy so I just ordered that today. The assembly is a bit of a challenge so if you are not up for that kind of adventure you might opt for the option where they put it together. Look at the DIY/How to videos before you buy to see if you are up to it. I will say this, I looked at the cyclone and it is nowhere near as good/sturdy as this and the reviews can attest to that.

Found this leaf vacuum to work well in both static mode (use inlet of DR and push leaves to it) and in drive behind mode with tractor. It's amazing how many leaves it can handle and how easy it is to dump. Only complaint that I have is that for a lawn with many hills/bumps, the fabric can pull away from the plastic chute and cause you to stop and have to reconnect it. The canvas boot should be longer to prevent separation from occurring unless back pressure when full.

We upgraded to the new Premier from our 10 yr old Premier unit. Very impressed with the more powerful engine and the 8 inch diameter hose ....very effective leaf vacuum. Also love the new dumping mechanism, much easier to offload. Only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is my agreement with many other reviewers that it is unforgivable not to include the Jack Stand with this seriously heavy piece of equipment.

I really debated about spending so much on a lawn vacuum and in the process getting another engine to maintain, but I'm VERY PLEASED that I did. The quality of the DR Lawn Vacuum is impressive. It looks like it will last for many years. The assembly was easy by following the online videos. And most importantly the performance is everything and more than I expected. I have it connected to A Dixon 46" Zero Turn. I have about 3 acres to maintain and the Premier is a good fit. If you have more I would go up to the Pro.

I have had this leaf vacuum about a month now and have used it several times. It does an outstanding job. I pull it with a small John Deere 1025R 4WD tractor with a 60" belly mower. Even though this is the small model, it will hold enough leaves to make it very heavy when full. A small tractor mower would have trouble pulling it on hilly ground. Level ground no problem. The one problem I have with it is one can't really tell when it's getting full. Back in the 90's I had a Craftsman leaf vacuum that had a lexan window in front so one could see when it was full. A window in the front of the DR vacuum would make it a SIX STAR MACHINE.

Like other DR equipment the lawn-leaf vac is a quality product. Shipping container was well put together and arrived in perfect condition. Not for the faint of heart to assemble, but instruction manual is top notch and misses nothing. Some mechanical aptitude and experience with basic tools is helpful. Once up and running the lawn vac performed to expectations. The basic model more then adequate for my nearly one acre of tree covered yard. Makes beautiful leaf mulch. I would recommend this piece of equipment to anyone. Sure beats raking!

I have used the DR Premium for 12 to 15 hours, and, except for the hose rip, it has been tremendous! This is the hose that connects the vacuum to the mower, and the rip is about 4 inches from the clamp on the Premium intake. I snapped a photo of it opened wide, then wrapped it with Gorilla tape, and continued working. I did not know when it happened, but noticed it when I was dumping the load. Before choosing DR, I shopped online extensively, and am sure I chose the best deal. I want to give a 5 rating, but the hose problem mystifies me.

This is a very well designed and constructed piece of equipment that should last a long time. Assembly was fairly quick and easy, although it takes a bit of work getting the canvas stretched properly over the frame. Materials are of high quality, good workmanship and good overall design. Plenty of power to suck up thick leaves without clogging. Contacted customer service over a shipping concern and they handled it to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone. Easy to change over to and really well thought out dumping process. Surprising home much this can hold between dumpings. I do plan to get the trailer jack/dolly for the tongue as it is fairly heavy to lift on and off of the tractor.

The problem with aligning the four holes on the main bar. I could put three in after some forcing the two around. The last hole was still 1/2 hole off. The only way to correct this was to enlarge one hole to fit the other. The other problem was with the canvas on the incoming pipe at the front. It will come off with vibration and blow ground up leaves all over the driver. I fixed this by going to Lowes Hardware and getting a stove pipe connector. Ground the rivets off and was able to fit it inside pipe so as to extend it about 3 or 4 inches. Duct taped it on seems to work fine. I am amazed by how well it grinds up leaves. Almost embarrassed by how small the pile is when the city comes around to suck it up. Looking forward to more leaves coming down so I can use it again.

Machine works well, had 2 issues I had to resolve. First, the cable link provided would not fit over the eye bolt, had to use a clevis to hook up the cable. Second, the square ended hitch was a problem for me, had to grind the corners off and make it round for clearance. If the supplied hose would have been a little longer I would have added a ball hitch to it, would make it a lot easier to hook up.

Great Unit

Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
After assembling the unit (over 2 days), it came time to modify the chute mount to my tractor. This became quite a chore. I have a John Deere LA120, 8 years old. I was not sure that you sent me the right adapter for this tractor, but I decided I would use it. After about 90 minutes of cutting and filing, I got it to fit. The only problem was that the bracket that holds the adapter to the deck interfered with the reverse pedal on the tractor. Once again I had to disassemble the unit and modify the bracket. After assembly, everything worked. With the leaves just starting to fall, I got to use the unit on Sunday. Worked as hoped. Just waiting on the full falling. Suggestion: if you could somehow look at the various decks this would go on, provide some more details on how to modify it for each deck. Otherwise, I think it is going to do just what I hoped.

The Premier lawn and leaf vacuum is better than described . It was very easy to assemble, as I watched the video on U-Tube. This machine has great vacuum and picks up very well. I got electric start and the hitch jack. I'm 70 years old and makes it much easier to handle. I have used it on leaves that have been piled since last fall, some are dry but most were mated down and a little wet. No matter the Premier chopped them up so fine it was hard to believe. I have a John Deer D110 with a bagger , so I attached the 8" tube to my lower discharge tube on the deck[requiring no adapter]. Now I can't wait for the leaves to fall!!??? Great product!!!

Best purchase I've made for keeping our yard in pristine condition. It works very well with our John Deere mower. I have learned not to fill it too full or it is difficult for me to dump, I'm pretty small. I do wish I would have gotten the electric switch start. I have to have my husband start it for me each time I use the machine.

A Good Purchase

The Premier was an excellent choice for handling all the leaves that we have on our property. The installation was easy to follow with the installation manual and the video that was on the internet together. Assembling the collector was the hardest part because the fabric is real tight on the frame. A mistake I made was ordering the wrong deck adaptor. They have a straight and angle adaptor. I suggest you call the technical support to make sure which one you need for your particular tractor. The operation of the DR was awesome. It did ever thing it is advertised to do and more. The motor and impeller on this unit is very powerful and durable. I accidentally sucked up a heavy glass ash tray and thought for sure I damaged the impeller; but no damage was done and it sucked it all the way through to the collector. The only reason I gave it a four is because I had some delivery problems with the equipment. the optional vacuum hose I ordered didn't come with the main lawn vacuum system and they didn't send the brackets with the deck adaptor. They did straighten out both problems but it took awhile to get system together to use.

Well built. Easy to dump. Works every bit as well as advertised. Turned hundreds of hours of raking leaves into a dozen hours of vacuuming leaves. I have a lot just under 1 acre with 30-40 large trees. The leaves are more than plentiful in the fall. The 9.59 Premier unit w/ the electric start and vacuum hose was a perfect fit for clearing leaves in the yard, around the house, and out of the landscaping. Required dumping dozens of full loads, but ease of dumping made the work a breeze. Customer Service from Dr. was terrific. Helped me get an easy return on the Universal Deck Adapter. I am not very "handy" and decided to buy a custom fit deck adapter instead of attempt to fit the universal deck adapter to my mower after receiving it. Thanks DR for a great product and great customer service.

The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum appears to be made of high quality materials. The video instructions that are available to assist assembly are top notch. However, the bolt holding the blower impeller to the engine shaft broke the first time I started the engine. I don't know if it was over-torqued at the factory, whether the impeller was unbalanced or whether there was a defect with the engine and shaft. DR should have replaced the engine and blower unit but instead insisted on having a local dealer repair the damaged unit. A new engine/blower unit could have been shipped and received in two days (as was the original) and the original returned to DR for complete analysis. It is now nearing two weeks since the unit broke, the repair is not complete and I am losing my opportunity to complete fall cleanup.
Response from DR SupportThank you for providing feedback for your DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. I have a 2 acre groomed property with many trees. For years I have pulled a lawn sweeper behind my lawn tractor. One pass and the sweeper is full and it's off to the back to unload. After 18 dumps of the basket on the sweeper awhile back, I decided I am to old for this abuse. Ordered up my DR. Excellent packaging, excellent instructions, took about 3 hours for assembly and another 1/2 hour to attach deck adaptor. The front front yard which was taking about 3 hrs. to sweep, took twenty minutes. I then moved next door and did my neighbors front yard. My bad! Overfilled the unit and had some difficulty opening and dumping. Also, I put small tear in vacuum tube because I was making very tight turns around the trees. Nothing I couldn't repair with gorilla duct tape. It would be beneficial to go around the base of the trees and rake the leaves out so straight passes would be all that's required. Excellent unit, can't wait till spring to pull it back out and hit the high grass.

I called and the Lady who helped made sure I went out and measured my tractor. I works great. Cleaned up the leaves and grass easily and I mowed some tall grass and it really made the yard look great. Read the tips and watch the videos as it helped with the assembly and usage. It worked well with heavy grass and thick leaves with twigs. It takes some storage space, but the way it works makes it worth it.

I am very pleased with my lawn vac. It is more rugged than the picture shows. It works wonderfully, and customer service was superb. My lawn is about 2/3 of an acre and the base model handles it with ease. The only thing I might change is the description of if you should get the straight shoot or the angled shoot for your mower.

I have read most of the reviews posted recently, which is why I ordered a 9.59 Premier Tow-Behind model. I ordered the unit and an angled adapter on of all days Nov.13 2015 (Friday the 13th.) It came by way of tractor trailer on Thurs. Nov.19th to my driveway. I unloaded the unit, and by evening had the deck adapter completed, about 90 min. of work, spent a lot of that time getting the proper tools gathered. The next day I was only able to spend 4 hours finishing unpacking and sorting parts, and starting assembly. It snowed in our area on Fri. the 20th, so I had to stop work and do what needed to be done. Sunday I was able to complete the assembly. I started the engine, just to check everything. I waited a few hours to let the leaves dry-out a bit and then started the clean-up WOW!! I was impressed on the quality of the job.Really was impressed. So now if all goes like the first few hours I will be a faithful follower, just like a lot of others.

Very effective for all types of leaves. After 3 1/2 hrs motor would not restart - tried troubleshooting steps from tech - no go. Took engine to warranty repair shop - turned out that grass had accumulated behind impeller wheel and was preventing engine from turning over properly. A bit of a design flaw perhaps but all is well - have another 4 hrs on engine - no issue,

A Lawn Vac with Awesome Power

I bought this lawn vac replacing one that was was of anther maker. This one is far more superior. Its more stable and has a lower profile, eliminates rollovers on slopes, even when the vac is almost full to capacity. The dumping is also much easier than any previous model, no latches simply lift and pull away for simple downloading. But Mostly, the power of the actual Vacuum is awesome. This vac leaves nothing but the lawn. Acorns, small sticks, pine cones and leaves all gone. Superb machine, easy start, easy to assemble.

Bought this unit a month ago. It does a super job of picking up and mulching leaves, and is a real work-saver. We have large maple trees that shed huge quantities, and the unit turns them into quarter-sized pieces that are great for compost on the first pass. On oak leaves, which are tougher, the pieces are much larger. But we have a big problem with the hose. It tore on maybe the second use for an unexplained reason (we don't think we hit anything). We've been duct-taping, but it keeps tearing and will soon be completely separated. We will have to replace it. I think they could have made it out of a tougher plastic.

Product works fine. However, the things I did not like was the purchasing process. I did not like having to pay so much for shipping to my home, and offering a 0% interest for 24 months, but if I took the offer there was a $125 "PROMO FEE" are you kidding. This is a purchase not a cash advance. If you want to offer 0% then get a different bank to work with. The fee translates to about 7% for the "Interest FREE"

Great suction, no clogs, no problems. Made a nice, fine mulch. Happy with it so far!

I am as happy as a pig in mud. I purchased my lawn vac, and it arrived two days later, put it together without a problem, following printed directions, but I wish I had known there was an online video. That would have made it a lot faster. The only thing that was a bummer, was the fact that I was not aware that I also needed to purchase the deck attachment in addition. Would have been nice to see that on the order form, and website. But all in all the vac works like a champ, it saved me hours of raking this year, and it will, well into the future. I wish I had purchased my DR leaf and lawn vac years ago. The price was right, aside from the unexpected addition, but it works so well that I will forgive and forget. Again, I am SUPER SATISFIED!! The assembly of this unit went well until I got to mounting the deck adapter. The two brackets supplied did not seem proper for my deck. I was able to get them mounted but I had to make some modification in order to get them to work. I also had to add a block on the inside of the adapter between the two brackets to keep the adapter from draging on the ground.

I was a bit concerned when I purchased this unit as it is made from plastic and canvas. I needn't have worried though as the trailer is very heavy duty with ball bearing wheels and very heavy plastic. The enclosure is very heavy canvas on the outside and rubberized on the inside. I handled heavy oak leaves in my yard of approximately 3/4 acre in an hour and a half. It went together without difficulty and when I called support about a minor problem they were super helpful and friendly. Please don't hesitate to purchase this unit if you are at all concerned.

Comes in a very large container so you'll need a pickup truck to get it from the delivered location. Takes two to off load it. Once you get it out of the package it is a assembly effort. You'll eventually get it all together and then when you connect it to your lawn mower it is fairly easy to use. Does a very good job vacuuming up the leaves and lawn clippings. It is fairly easy to empty once you learn how.

Great Product

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
We did a lot of research to find the right product for our yard. We have about an acre that is heavily wooded, 6" deep in leaves. Capacity and power were the two things we were concerned with. This machine puts a ton of leaves in the hamper before I need to dump it. I was really amazed at how small everything got chopped up, perfect for mulching the garden. You have to have two people to put it together and you MUST follow the directions step by step. They say it takes three hours to assemble and they are correct. I have a shop full of tools, so I had everything I needed. The only issue I had was one of the packets of nuts and bolts was missing two nuts. So I had to run out and buy a couple, no big deal really, but... I've run it for two days now and the engine starts up on the first pull every time, pretty impressive. You'll need to ware ear protection as the mower and the unit are really load when they are both running. The first time I tried it, the leaves were pretty wet, but it seemed to suck most of them right off the ground. The lower your mower deck the more suction you get. Great product, really glad I bought it.

Picking up at the conway depot onto my 1800# flatbed trailer was a snap. I inloaded the box piece by piece and assembly went well. I made a special sizor tool to stretch the canvas for the last set of bolts. Engine starts usually on one pull and runs well. For jobs with the hose I pull it around with my works aero cart. I can easily manage up to a 5% grade by hand, and I'm a little 65 yr old guy. run at about 1/2 throttle for hose work. For the lawn I pull it around with my rear engine Honda rider. I have lots of trees and other obstacles and it is pretty maneouverable. Run at full throttle on the mower. can either work with the deck lowered to 1" without the blades or at my normal cutting height of 3" and the blades running. have only used it 4 times. and it is adequate for the 3/4 acre of grass I have on our oak forested 3 acre lot. When it gets full the canvas just lifts up a little and it keeps going. The volume reduction is amazing. but one gets the best shredding action at full throttle. Only had to pull the hose off once to unclog from a 1/2" daimater x 18" long stick. with leaves on it. Only down side is the hard to handle heavy 6" hose, But I'm getting the hang of it. Great product and I highly recommend it. Grace to you and Peace Roy Alexander

Fall cleanup

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
When I purchased my 9.59 I was somewhat skeptical it would do what I was hoping for. My plan was to blow a large amount of leaves in a pile and vacuum them into the machine. I did not hook it up to my lawn tractor rather I pulled it behind my JD Gator. It preformed perfectly. Did exactly what I was hoping for. With the long vacuum hose attached it somewhat cumbersome but the end results were great. Normally it would take me most of three weekends to do what I did in a day and 1/2. I might advise that anyone considering this machine add the elect start and the trailer jack. My wife would never be able to start this unit manually nor would she be able to hook it or remove it from the tractor. Assembly is just time consuming. Surely appears to be a great tool for fall cleanup.

I purchased the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum about a 1 1/2 years ago and it was the best investment that I've made. It took me a full day to put the unit together. I wish that more of this was already put together. It took me another day to get the boot cut out correctly to fit my John Deer riding mower. I'm glad I took the time because I have a nice tight fit and this makes all of the difference to give maximum suction. I had to add an S-shaped piece of metal on the top to give the boot a strong connection and bolted the S-shaped metal to another piece of metal on the underside of the deck. This gave it a very strong connection to the deck and holds the boot securely in place. The motor starts basically with 1 or 2 pulls, every time. The suction is so great it is better than any vacuum I've used. When I am done with my lawn it looks like a manicured golf course. I would recommend this system for any lawn with a lot of leaves to pick up. What a great system. Steve from Coloma MI

I took the deck adapter to a lawn mower service and had them fit it on my deck. The first place I took it could not figure it out but the second place did a great job. I'm glad I did not try on my own. I had no trouble putting everything else together by myself. After assembled and running I had same problem as others where the chute would disconnect from the bagger and debris would blow everywhere. Spoke with tech support and added two washers to one side of engine mount and now works great. I do feel this is a flaw in the original construction and not a shipping issue. Everything seems to be made very well and should last a long time.

It's a great working machine. Really pick's up leaf's and stick's. The only problem I have with it is where the chute hook's up the bagger it keeps either vibrating or blowing off. makes leafs and grass fly all over and have to stop to hook it back up.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this, and I am glad I did. I bought the basic 9.59 Premier model, and so far, it has had plenty of power for anything I want to do. Putting it together took a couple of hours, but it was not overly difficult. The dump feature is one of the best parts, as when I am out working with it, I usually don't want to take the time to go dump it, but of course I do. It is so quick and easy, I can't imagine the buckling and unbuckling of straps and flaps on some of the other brands. I just shut it off, back it up to the pile, and dump - its that easy. I used the bagger adaptor that I had on my tractor already, and it fit this unit fine, works great. I did not have to cut the hose, the length was perfect. So far I am very pleased with this machine, and I look forward to many good years. I would recommend this to anyone.

DR Vacuum

My husband is still trying to put it together. It's the discharge part that's not easy to connect. Ours is curved but it wouldn't have mattered if it was straight because it is not an easy task. It would have been nice if it had already been cut to fit the mower. I think we will like it when we finally get it together. My husband will try to finish it tomorrow, his 2nd day to work on it. My brother in law has the bigger vacuum and really likes it. I rated it a 4 because of having to cut and fit the discharge unit to the mower. Is not easy. I am sure it will work great on our lawn when my husband gets the task completed.

Works as advertised. It does take a while to assemble, but not bad. The website video helped. The DR universal boot did not adapt well to my deck, and by the time I figured it out, it was too late to return. I'm getting a factory one from Husky. Even without a good fitting boot, the vac works great.

I am very pleased with my Dr leaf and Lawn Vac, it is nice to see the great quality and workmanship in this piece of equipment. The unit is a fair price for the heavy duty design. The assembly instruction were well written and explained with good diagrams. I only have two negative things to say: One they charged me $15 for shipping a chute adapter when it was enclosed with the unit and they advertised free shipping. Really this was nickle dime stuff you would not expect. Second, the create was huge. They would be better off shipping as two skids so you could handle the unit.

Assembled it myself & am happy w/the build quality. Two people would have an easier time assembling but not terrible to do solo. Plan on a few hrs & you'll be up & running. I've ran it each week in the last month I've owned it & haven't had any issues. It works really well for grass clippings on a fast growing spring lawn & there's no reason to believe it won't do great w/the leaves this fall. Wish I had bought one years ago rather than fight the wimpy bagger on the riding mower or mess w/raking & blowing leaves all fall.

Got this vac a few days ago and expected an easy put together. It takes 2 so if you see the video of the lady putting it away, the only thing I can say is that, that lady must have OX blood in her veins. Ok that is behind us and the unit works well and that is all that matters. I would recommend this vac to all, but make sure you have 4 hands to help setting it up. The down side is if you have a large yard, you will have to refill the tank on the vac about half way through the job. If you have a lot of leafs, get ready to empty the unit 4 to 5 times before the job is done. Ok yes there is an up side, it does a great job of getting all the leafs out of your yard. All in all a great unit and the price is right.

Had left leaves all winter. This machine has the power to vacuum them up in one pass. The shredding of the leaves and small sticks is quick and compact. The only, very minor, change I made was replace the wing nut strap that is on the hose back to a screw. It seemed like a good idea but the screw clamp was faster with a screwdriver. Love the machine.

Excellent power until with tremendous horsepower to consume leaves. The additional had unit was well worth the purchase for beds and shrubs. If you have a zero turn, you most likely need the deck adapter and extra extension to work properly so plan on a little extra cost.

Don't buy for pinestraw

Does not pickup pine straw very well and in our area we have a lot!!
Response from DR SupportThank you for your feedback on the DR® Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. We’re sorry you’ve been having difficulty with successfully picking up pine straw. The Premier Model which is the one that you purchased has a suction capacity of 66 mph at 2038 CFM and has proven very effective for nearly all situations. When you are mowing over any areas that have the pine straw it may prove more helpful to lower your mowing deck/blades so that there is more air movement closer to the ground and this in turn may help to lift and discharge the pine straw out. Dry conditions are really best for this type of material. Don’t hesitate to contact us at 1-800-376-9637 if you wish to discuss this in more detail. We certainly appreciate your comments and more important; we thank you for choosing DR® Power!

I bought this machine in September of 2014, have used it three times, it works very good, the vacuum is excellent, but not without problems 1. the discharge hose has ripped 2. the canvas on the back, right above the handle is coming apart at the seam. and the hinge pin is too short, it is working, but it is not long enough. It even picks up sweet gum balls. assembly was a little tuff, had to ask for help.

We are always appreciative of hearing from our customer’s about their experiences on assembly and use of the machine. We are going to have someone from our Tech Support Department give you a call. Assembly was awkward for one person. Did not like or use the push nuts (there are several better thin nut options). After using for a couple months the stitching in the mesh at the top of the canvas cover separated or came lose leaving a hole. The flaps at the bottom of the cover don not stay in place and are splitting. The top rear link assembly of the cover seems to accumulate an excess of debris which is difficult to remove without getting a head full of the debris. I would like to for the jack lift to retract higher off the ground. An "on/off" decal would be useful on the side of the engine.
Response from DR SupportThank you for your feedback on the assembly and use of your DR® Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. The issues that you’ve described are not the norm. We are going to have someone from our Tech Support Department give you a call so that we can discuss your concerns with your in greater detail. Your satisfaction with this product is important to us. We appreciate all of our customer feedback and work hard to incorporate suggestions as part of our continuous improvement efforts. Received the lawn vacuum with the cardboard top detached. Machine assembly was easy. Canvas top assembly took 3 days to assemble as black and white directions were blurred. I suggest color professional pictures be made. The tight fit means an extremely forced fit. I would have paid for the canvas to have been pre assembled. After I finally got it assembled it was a dream to use. I did my neighbors lawn as well as my own because it was fun.

I have used the DR for about 8 hours now and I think it's great. I have a slopping yard with over 40 trees 30 being oak. I have used it with the mower and the hose attachment either way it works. This is so much easier than raking and bagging. The DR is small enough to get around trees and flower beds. The DR is very easy to dump, unless you over fill it, then you have to work a little harder. I have taken the DR apart to haul it to my Moms to do her leaves it is very simple. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have used my new DR a couple times this fall and it definitely reduced the time I spent in cleaning up my yard (approx 1 acre). It took me a little while establishing a pattern, to minimize tight turns. The unit works well reducing the leaf matter significantly. I do wish there was a way to know how full it is. I did wait on purchasing a unit and only did with the new soft top for better storage - so that is a welcome new feature.

Works great. I did want the next unit up the Pro and was told it was 10 weeks out because of motors on order. I was disappointed when the unit came and was putting it together and notice that the front wheel did not come with it. I was lead to believe that I had to take the Premier instead of the Pro that the wheel would come with the Premier. I'm almost 70 and its very hard for me to lift the unit.

Great machine, with huge improvements over last model

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
So far this leaf vacuum is performing fantastically. It was easy to setup, and the effort taken in breaking it down is quite easy considering it's sturdiness. It really does take only about 5 minutes. The capability of braking it down for storage, alone, is an amazing improvement over the previous versions. Some people who may have had to keep it outside previously, can now fit it into their shed or garage. I told a rep from tech support at DR that last years model should have included a pin for the deck adapter with two holes on each side for hitch pin clips, thereby making it easier to switch back to a mower discharge chute when not using the vacuum. They have included that pin with this model. One of the big problems with previous models was clogging, due to the size of the hose, and the various angles the leaves had to pass through. They have solved that problem. It has not clogged yet, or even come close. The canvas container is far more durable than the plastic one. Acorns do not puncture it because of the give that it has inherently. The assisted lift makes dumping much easier. The clamshell design overall is just great. They have eliminated the hassle of dumping. To top it off, it doubles as a dumping utility cart, and it's lighter than last years model, making it easier to go up hills when full of leaves. There are only two things I think I would change with this model: 1. Use a standard carabiner instead of the locking one for the safety cable. 2. The oil drain spout requires you to drain the oil over the frame of the machine. Try to relocate it. These two issues are very minor. I'll replace the carabiner myself, and it would be hard to relocate the oil drain spout without sacrificing the design of the machine. Overall, as is probably apparent from my review, I'm very happy.

9.59 Leaf vacuum performs as billed.

1st - It took me about 4.5 hours to assemble. The stitching on the canvas was missing around the bottom in a few places like the sewing machine was zig zagging a bit but didn't affect the function. 2nd - I was very disappointed that my boot adaptor and extension hose were not included with this shipment. Not only that but when I went to inquire, I was told they were on back order. If you think you may need this machine then order at least 1 month ahead of time. 3rd - After the deck boot adaptor came in the mail it took me another 4 hours to custom fit it to my 48" Husqvarna lawn tractor. My suggestion would be for DR Power to provide templates for various popular brands to make this custom fit go faster, smoother, and provide an overall tighter fit to the mower so that it gives the suction vacuum its maximum performance. Once I began mowing it took some practice and general getting to know the machine to figure out how to best maneuver and order of how to best work it. i.e. 1. Start DR Power in idle, ensure canvas is secured around blower chute and hose it attached to mower deck. Fire up tractor, engage blade, reach back and move DR Power into fully operated position (rabbit) begin mowing. Then when full (it will clog when full so I periodically reach back and press on the wall of the canvas to feel for bulging. Disengage the mower blade and move DR power down to idle to go and empty the cart. This thing does an amazing job! If your mower can lift it off the ground and it can physically fit through the 8" hose then the DR Power will shred it to pieces without second thought. I bought the premier 9.59 which holds 200 gallons. In the height of Fall on one acre of property with with 15 60' mature oaks (white and bur) a 25hp lawn tractor I can accomplish a leaf pickup inside of one hour on two loads. I have a somewhat hilly terrain but not extreme. I really like the durability and ability to handle anything organic it can get its shredder on. I feel like this model fit my tractor and situation perfectly and look forward to making short work of what would typically be hours of back breaking raking. Having a place nearby to dump this is a must in my opinion.

The unit assembles fairly easy but is time consuming and some of the pictures in the directions could be a little more descriptive. I am impressed with how well it works and how much it holds my old unit was another mfg push type that I would have to empty 5 or 6 times to finish just my yard and this held it all. would recommend this to anyone wanting one and would buy it again if needed.

Surrounded by trees, I decided this would be a good investment. The vacuum has enough power to suck leaves easily. It is difficult to back to unloading area and after opening to dump, you have to pull lawn mower up to unload or pull the leaves out. Would be nice if collector had a window installed near the top to check amount of leaves collected so as not to overfill. All in all, I do believe I made the right decision to purchase the vacuum.

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
I have been using the Pro XL for about 4 weeks and the machine exceeds all my expectations because it is well made, and consequently, it works perfectly. When I ordered the leaf vacuum, I was particularly interested in the leaf mulching blade because we have over 60 large trees in our yard plus we are surrounded by woods so we have lots and lots of leaves so a machine which reduces the volume was especially attractive to me. In short, the blade performs exactly has described in the DR literature and it is amazing at how many passes I may make in the yard before the cart is totally full. Probably the other specific feature I appreciate is the powerful, electric start engine because it starts without any hesitation and produces an exceptional amount of suction so that clogged hoses area a thing of the past which is a wonderful change from my earlier John Deere model.

Love this thing! Wish I had bought one years ago instead of struggling with yearly leaf pickup. It turns a major job into an enjoyable task. It is wonderfully engineered from the easy breakdown for storage to the tilting of the trailer allowing complete dumping without carrying a rake along. A typical DR product. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Powerful & Well Built. But also Noisy & Dusty

Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
I have now had a chance to use the vacuum on our small estate property. I bought it to vacuum leaves and small debris off of our paved driveway and to pickup leaves, sticks and pine-cones off the lawn. It works great for all purposes. The driveway is swept clean and machine creates a nice even mulch. It took about 4 hours to assemble. The instructions were straightforward, although there were many steps. The machine is very sturdy and well-built. It is definitely a quality unit. The motor starts right up (pull cord) and runs strong. It is very easy to dump. My only complaints. It is VERY loud, particularly when combined with the noise of the tractor blades. It also generates a lot of dust behind it. There is a cloud wherever it goes, although the dust settles quickly. Despite these two issues, I'm very happy with the unit and pleased that I purchased it. The leaves are just starting to fall and this unit will make short work of keeping the property tidy.

DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum - Premier
Posted by: William M. from MIDDLEBURY, IN on 10/10/2014
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
This review will reflect that I am a retired engineer and given to analyze things in detail so bear with me, I can't do it any other way! I have, at the time of this review, used my DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum just twice on my whole lawn (about 19,000 sq. ft.) The learning curve on how to make the leaf pickup most effective was very short, but required me to change the sequence that I perform the job. A case in point is to clean the driveway and walkway with my hand held leaf blower before mowing to capture those leaves with the DR also. There is no leakage of debris from the mower discharge. The DR collects all of it! The hard surfaces stayed clean after mowing the lawn. The chopper function works extremely well. I was able to mow my entire lawn with a light leaf cover plus grass trimmings with one hopper load. Assembly of the machine was straightforward, but did take several hours. The completed unit has a feel of durability and quality with good fit between parts and robust components. The design allows for simple operation for emptying the hopper. I choose to dump the collected trimmings in a forested area and find it easier to remove the collection hose for easier maneuvering. A quick release hose clamp to remove the hose would be a nice added feature. The manual start engine has started on the first pull, but the on/off switch could use a label for the switch position out where the operator can actually see it. I added my own label. The deck adapter fit to my mower deck very well with some careful measuring. One small point with the hinge is that both halves are identical instead of the customary interlocking parts configuration. Consequently, the deck adapter could slide forward or backward, depending on which way you have lapped the hinge parts together, with only the little spring keeper holding it in place. My model does not come with a jack stand. Thankfully, I ordered one because the weight on the drawbar weighs in at 85 pounds! This is more weight than I feel comfortable with when moving the unit around by hand. It also comes in handy for leveling the machine to service the engine. I had an extension drawbar fabricated for my tractor because the original setup would allow the tractor's rear wheel to rub against the DR engine or blower housing on a tight turn. This is not a DR issue, but worth checking when you setup your tractor to pull this machine. The added noise from the second engine makes hearing protection advisable if you don't already use it. One issue for me is to judge the throttle setting for each machine when I can't hear it over the other one. I solved this point by adding a set point mark on the throttle of each machine. I was pleasantly surprised to find how much faster leaf cleanup went when I didn't have to make multiple passes over each spot. The result is a much nicer looking job than mowing alone. As a bonus, I believe my total fuel consumption will decrease even with operating the additional engine.

My new DR leaf and Lawn Vac works very well and is of high quality. The only negative thing was the assembly. In particular, the assembly of the fabric part was very challenging. Everything else bolted together just fine. I feel that the manufacturer should ship the fabric part assembled, but compressed. That way, the new owner could have an easier time of assembling this unit. It did all go together ok and now is working very well. I think I will be very happy with it in the future. I received the equipment last week, found the assembly process to be fairly simple but time consuming. The equipment works very well and I expect it will more than pay for itself before the snow flies as it will eliminate the thousands that it costs to have the landscaper remove the leaves for me. It is extremely sturdy and I expect based on that alone it will last a long time. I would buy it again in a minute.

Had the opportunity to try one of the first of these leaf vacs and it is great. The videos are accurate: the DR leaf vac is maneuverable, powerful and easy to use. Dumps very well and capacity is surprising. I figure it will save us 3-4 days of raking per year and one of our neighbors has already asked to borrow it this fall. It is great for leaves but also super for tall grass that we only mow every 3-4 weeks. And the shredded material makes great mulch. You won't regret it.

Product Q&A
Ask a Question for This Product
Sort By:
Q.1) Does this unit require an adapter between the deck and the discharge hose? If so, is it included in the unit price? 2) Is there a removable extension hose between the mower and the trailer that supports the vac and motor? Thanks.
A.A Deck Boot (adapter) is necessary in order to connect the lawn deck discharge with the inlet hose of the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum.

If your discharge opening on your lawn tractor is less than 6" high and 19" wide, our standard deck boot will make the connection between your tractor and our hose system. It does require some modifications, as cutting and drilling is involved. We also offer an angled deck adapter.

These deck boot adapters are not included in the price of the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum. If our adapters will not fit with your mower's lawn deck, you may be able to locate a custom fit boot by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower.

Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums also come with a removable 8" ID blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet which is 72" in length. If you need a longer length of hose, we do offer an optional Extra Hose Kit that extends the blower inlet hose by 3 feet for larger lawn tractors.

Q.Aside from grass clippings and leaves, does the 9.59 Premier model pickup and chop-up twigs and small branches? If so, can you give me an idea of how long and what diameter twigs and branches it will handle? Thanks.
A.The Premier model can mulch branches and twigs that your mower deck is capable of lifting. The twigs would need to be small enough to fit thru the 8" hose between the mower and the vacuum.

Q.What about unwanted moisture collection? Not all leaves and grasses are dry. Can this gadget wick moisture or can it be opened for cleaning and "drying" if needed?
A.The Leaf & Lawn Vac has ample vacuum to handle wet leaves and the container can easily be opened to dry out if needed. The hoses can easily be disconnected and left to dry as well, although both the container and hoses are made of high quality PVC material which is impervious to mold or rot. I hope that this answers your questions. If you'd like to order the leaf vacuum, please call us at 800-376-9637 and speak with a Sales Rep to determine compatibility with your mower.

Q.When I am picking up the leaves with the hand held hose will I also be picking up the rocks?
A.The Leaf Vacuum will pick up small rocks if you are not careful. When using the hand held hose you can hold the nozzle a little higher and just pick up the leaves without getting rocks. Also, when using the lawn deck you would want to adjust the height of the deck a little higher so that you avoid the rocks as well. The shredding teeth on the impeller are very durable.

Q.I have a sixty-inch deck on my lawn tractor. Will the 9.59 Premier be compatible with it?
A.One of the most important things to check for compatibility would be the dimensions of the discharge opening on your mower deck to ensure it is compatible with our universal deck boot. The deck boot requires a right hand side discharge, a maximum opening height of 6" or less, and a maximum opening width of 19" or less. If your lawn deck opening does not fall within these dimensions, you can check with your mower manufacturer as often they may a deck boot that will work. With the size of your lawn deck, you may need to consider the larger model to ensure you have proper suction for the amount of discharge your mower creates depending on your property. The best recommendation I have for you would be to call our sales department so we can discuss with you your mower, operating conditions, etc. so we can best get an understanding of what will work the best for you. Q.What is the difference in the vacuum units between the models? I am also trying to figure out the jack stand units. Does the premier not have a jack stand it shows in the pictures
A.Thank you for contacting us.

The difference between the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum models is the size of the engine and the size of the collector.

The Premier model comes with a 9.59 fpt engine. The collector holds 27 cubic feet, 200 gallons of leaves and grass clippings and will hold up to 500 lbs. The Premier model is recommended for small to medium size mowing decks, up to 48 inches wide.

The Pro Models have the larger 13.28 fpt and the 16.96 fpt engines for handling the larger decks volume, up to 60 inch wide decks. They also have a larger collector, able to hold 43 cubic feet, 321 gallons of leaves and grass clippings, and will hold up to 800 lbs.

The Jack Stand is optional on the Premier model. It comes standard on the Pro Models.

Q.I am interested in your DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum 9.59 Premier, Tow-Behind. My question is what comes with this unit? I called your office on Friday and asked, for the size for my yard what size unit I should get. Was told this should work fine. What if it doesn't do the job it should, can I exchange it for the size larger?

The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum comes with the hose that attaches to the mowing deck. It also comes with a 2 year warranty that covers parts, labor and the shipping of the parts as well as a 1 year hands on trial. Here is the web page with the details;

Q.Who really makes the engine? Is it made in usa?
A.The DR engine featured on our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is manufactured for us by Rato. The engine is manufactured in China. The machine itself is assembled at our factory in Vermont. The engines feature a 2 year warranty standard, with an option to extend to a full 5 years. This is a great way to protect your investment.

We have had great success with the DR engine and have been using it for years on some of our other equipment.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Q.The description for the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum Premier model says it's designed for smaller properties. The area I need to maintain is about 1/2 acre with lots of thick grass that gets out of control in a hurry, so when I mow, it's typically a little taller than the average lawn. I also have 3 large butternut trees that drop a ton of leaves and a heavy crop of nuts in the fall. Would the Premier be a good choice for me, or should I consider stepping up to the Pro model? Thanks in advance.
A.Thank you for contacting us.

The Premier model will handle your 1/2 acre property very well. The size of the mowing deck will also determine which Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work best for you. We recommend up to a 52" wide mowing deck for the Premier model. If your deck is larger than that, I would recommend stepping up to the Pro or Pro XL model, depending on the size of the deck.

Please contact us if you have further questions. PL

Q.Can this unit discharge collected material to another collection conveyance like a trailer should you need to haul your clippings to the local land-fill?
A.Our Tow-behind models feature an optional mulch discharge hose. This hose works in unison with our optional vacuum hose. Together they can clean out the back of the container and discharge the material into a desired location with the 17' discharge hose. Below are links to these hoses. This is a great way to get the mulched vegetation into a specific location. Thank you for your interest.

Q.Break down for storage, Does the tow-behind leaf vacuum break down or fold for storage?
A.Yes, it is actually very simple to disassemble the collector, hoses, and outlet duct for storage purposes. The collector can be removed by sliding out the hinge pin. For long term storage the collector collapses in just a few mintues and without tools. The hoses can all be removed by unscrewing the mounting hose clamp on each. Once you are familiar with the assembly of this machine, the average person can disassemble it for storage in a matter of about 15 - 30 minutes.

Q.Any issue with towing behind an ATV? I would expect to use the hose attachment for over the wall and in gardens where fall/spring cleanup is needed.
A.Yes, you can tow the Leaf Vacuum with an ATV. We have a number of customers that do not attach the hose to a lawn deck, but rather tow from spot to spot and use the vacuum hose to manually pickup leaves. That will work just fine! Thank you.

Q.Will this unit fit my zero turn mower?
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work with most conventional-style riding lawn tractors and Z-steer mowers that have a front, mid or belly-mounted lawn deck. The Premier models can be attached to tractors with a 12 HP minimum for use on level terrain. To help determine whether the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is compatible with your mower, please review the list of questions below. This information will also help you decide which model is appropriate for your riding mower. 1. What is the Cutting Width of your mower? 2. Do you currently have a bagging or collection system for your lawn mower? If so, is the diameter of the boot’s discharge opening between 8"? The blower inlet hose on the DR measures 8" in diameter, but we also have adapters for boots with diameters of up to 8". If you do not, our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot, can be modified to fit lawn decks that have a discharge opening up to 6" high by 19" wide. If our Universal-Fit Mower Deck Boot will not fit with your mower’s lawn deck, you may be able to locate a boot by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower. 3. Do you have a pin hitch on the back of your tractor between 8" and 15" from the ground? If not, is there a secure place on the back of your tractor to mount a hitch plate? If you are in need of a Hitch Plate or opted for the Dual Point Hitch Kit, what is the distance between the rear wheels on your mower? 4. What is the distance from the back opening of the discharge on the lawn mower to the back of the furthest point of the back of the tractor? If the distance is 40 inches or less, our standard blower inlet hose will be sufficient. However, if this distance is between 41 inches and 7 feet, then our optional Hose Extension Kit is required. If the distance is greater than 7 feet, the mower is too large to be used with the DR. If you have more questions or would like to place a phone order, please feel free to give our Sales Team a call at Toll Free 1-888-550-0062, Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 7 pm, Saturday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, Eastern Time. Q.Are the 8" hoses on the Lawn-Vacuum damaged by exposure to sunlight, water or biological activity from the leaves as they decay? What are the hoses made of?
A.The 8" hoses on the Leaf & Lawn Vac are made from a very flexible, UV resistant PVC plastic that will repel water. By the term "biological activity" I must assume your concern is that decaying leaves might harm the PVC. We did not experience any problems with that process in Product Testing, nor have I heard of it from any customers in the 8 years we've been selling the product. I hope that this answers your questions. If you'd like to order the Leaf & Lawn Vac, please call us at 800-376-9637 for compatibility with your mower.

A.Dear Customer, If your property is relatively flat, our Premier Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will work with a 12 HP mower. You may want to double check your mower's A&O Manual on the towing weight limitation of your mower. The weight capacity of the Premier model is 500 lbs. Q.Will this product pick-up leaves over a sandy area instead of grass? We live on a lake and have a wooded lot with no grass. After eliminating the ferns our ground is all sand with some areas around the house having mulch. We could use the vacuum attachment over the mulch but I am concerned about the very large area that is all sand. Will this unit be effective in this type of application?
A.Yes, although you will need to carefully adjust the mower deck. If too close to the ground, it will pick up an inordinate amount of sand, and if too high, it will not pick up the leaves effectively.

Q.How much width do each of the models add to the tractor? e.g., A 60" deck + hose & adapter width = total width of machines. Need to know as we have vineyard & orchard rows to clean up.
A.Thank you for contacting us and your interest in the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuums.

The overall width of the Premier model is 34.7" and the Pro and the Pro XL models have an overall width of 47.62". The Universal Deck Boot is the only item that will add width to your tractor as you have a 60" wide deck. The Universal Deck Boot is 13" wide, however that may lessen as you will be cutting the deck boot to fit your deck.

Please contact us if you have further questions. PL

Q.Does the tow-behind leaf and lawn vacuum come with everything needed to hook up and go?
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuums come with the standard size blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet. The Deck Adapter, Vacuum Hose, Mulch Discharge Hose and the Extra Hose Kit are all optional attachments.

Our Deck Adapter fits discharge openings that are no more than 6" high and 19" wide, so some modifications are required such as cutting and drilling. Also, our Deck Adapter can only be fitted for right side discharge mowers. If our Deck Adapter will not fit with your mower's lawn deck, you may be able to locate a Deck Adapter by contacting the manufacturer or local dealer of your mower.

Q.Will this vacuum work on alpaca feces? The actual question would be does the vacuum action have enough power to pull small round pellets that would lie below the lawn mower blades.
A.Our Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum has tremendous suction! Whatever material your mower deck can lift, the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will suck the debris through the impeller. When you mow with the DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum attached, you get approximately 10 times the lifting power of your mower alone. The DR Leaf and Lawn Vacuum is designed to vacuum yard waste such as leaves, grass, small twigs, pine cones and will work for any debris that’s safe for your mower blades. Since we have no specific performance data on using the Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum for vacuuming animal waste, we cannot guarantee our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will perform like a Paddock Vacuum, which is designed for the collection of manure and debris from paddocks, yards and stables. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact us at Toll Free 1-888-550-0062 and a Sales Representative will be happy to help you.

Q.Will I need to order a hose to attach unit to mower boot or is that provided? if so what is that part number?
A.If the distance from the back opening of the discharge on the mower to the back of the furthest point on the back of the tractor is 40” or less you will not need to order any extra hose. If, however, that distance is between 40 inches and 7 feet you will need to order the Extra Hose Kit, #35162. Q.Can vacuum be used on multiple mowers? If not, do you supply adapter hook ups?
A.Our vacuum systems connect to mower decks with a deck adapter. If you have multiple mowers you would like to use the vacuum with, you will likely need an adapter for each one.

Q.Is there a hose head attachment to hug the ground to pull up acorns?
A.We offer only one vacuum hose attachment for the Tow-Behind Leaf and Lawn Vacuum and it is a handheld attachment. To use the vacuum hose attachment, you need to unhook the inlet hose from the deck adapter and then attach the vacuum hose to the inlet hose. The hose is 14 feet long, 6" in diameter, and when attached to the 90" intake hose, the total length is approximately 22 feet (not including the nozzle). With 22 feet of reach, this hose can easily get under shrubbery, in corners, window wells and under fences. Please feel free to phone our Sales Team if you have more questions. Q.Will the tow-behind leaf/lawn vacuum pick up acorns? We have a ton of oak trees, and the horses are addicted to acorns, so we are looking for a way to get rid of them.
A.The blower inlet hose that attaches between the deck adapter and the blower housing inlet is now larger in diameter. We went from a 6 inch ID hose to an 8 inch ID hose for improved suction. The Premier at 66 mph and the Pro/Pro-XL at 72 mph. A larger diameter hose also means less likely to clog.

Whatever material your mower deck can lift, our Leaf and Lawn Vacuum will suck the debris through the impeller and mulch it. When you mow with the Leaf and Lawn Vacuum attached, you will get approximately 10 times the lifting power of your mower alone.

We also offer the optional handheld vacuum hose, which works well if the acorns are imbedded in the ground or if you have longer grasses to vacuum them from. This ergonomically designed hose can be used in those hard-to-reach spots and attaches easily and quickly.

A.On very level terrain, the Premier mdoel can be used with an engine as small as 12 HP, otherwise 14 HP or greater engine is recommended. This vac fits right-sided discharge chutes only. It can be used with most zero-turn mowers. Since there are many brands and models of mowers out there, we suggest calling in and speaking with a Sales Rep directly for mower compatibility. Through a series of questions and measurements compatibility can be determined. A Rep may be reached at 1-800-376-9637.
