Overview

Plenty of Machine for Anyone!

Our PRO-26, equipped with a 10.5 HP Briggs and Stratton OHV engine, is a full-featured Field and Brush Mower that accepts all of our optional attachments. But it's first and foremost, a terrific mower that will make short work of thick field grass and woody materials up to two inches in diameter.

This machine has the exact same frame, wheels, drive train, clutch, handlebars, controls, and spindle as our larger walk-behinds. And just like the others, it accepts optional attachments and has a pivoting mower deck–one of our DR® "secrets" to great maneuverability and traction. This model's only concession to convenience is its pull-start (vs. electric-start engine). Other than that, it will do the job, and do it well–at a great price.

brush mower cuts 8-foot tall weeds, 2-inch saplings and 4-foot tall grass

Product Summary:

  • 10.5 HP Manual-Start Engine
  • 26" pivoting brush deck follows contours of ground
  • 3 forward speeds, 1 reverse
  • Splash lubrication
  • Accepts all optional attachments
  • See Features and Specs Tabs for more product details

Warranty Coverage

  • Engine: 2 years residential; 1 year commercial
  • Machine: 2 years residential; 90 days commercial

Features

10.5 HP Briggs & Stratton PowerBuilt Engine

The legendary power, performance and durability of Briggs & Stratton® engines make them the obvious choice for our Walk-Behind Field and Brush Mowers. The PRO-26 10.5 HP model uses a durable 344 cc Overhead Valve PowerBuilt Series manual-starting Briggs engine with cast-iron cylinder sleeve.

26" Pivoting Deck

The 26" deck is wide enough for effective clearing, but is still very maneuverable. Unlike rigid, fixed decks found on some mowers, the DR deck pivots from side to side, allowing it to follow the contours of rough terrain. This feature minimizes scalping and improves traction.

Superior Mulching

Our decks are enclosed on 3 sides, so that cut material is chopped and re-chopped, reducing grass and brush to a fine mulch. This means less material is left behind in your field, and none of the windrows you get with side-discharging mowers.

Gear-Driven Transmission: Lock it in and Rip it up!

Unlike hydrostatic drives, the DR's geared transmission lets you lock in your ground speed, leaving your hands free to steer the machine across uneven terrain (instead of fussing with touchy throttle controls as you go). With 3 forward gears, you can choose a fixed pace that’s right for you.

Big, Lugged Tires for Sure Traction

No other brush mower has tires like this. They’re the biggest (18" x 6.5" x 8"), they have superior lugged treads that pull the mower through or over just about anything, and they are sealant filled...which means they’re highly resistant to puncture. Tough as nails, apparently!

Custom-Made Blade Spindle

Made of 1.375" thick cast iron with oversized double sealed bearings, the blade spindle is integrated into the deck housing and reinforced for vibration-free performance. Designed to provide years of maintenance-free use (and abuse!).

Commercial Grade Electric Clutch

Our industry-leading, self-adjusting clutch is designed for easy access and quick swapping out of optional attachments. After 245 hours of testing we only used up 10% of the life of the clutch. There are no cables to stretch or idler pulleys to get out of adjustment.

Attachments Add 4-Season Versatility

Thanks to our quick-change coupling system, the DR’s brush mowing deck can be swapped—in just minutes—with one of our optional PTO attachments: a 42" finish mower, a 30" snow thrower, a wood chipper, or a 42" grader blade. It's like owning 5 machines in one!

Built to Take a Beating

Field and brush mowing is a bruising business, and underbuilt mowers don’t survive long out where the tough stuff grows. We frame our machines with heavy-duty, laser cut steel, and reinforce key stress spots so you get a product that will withstand years of use and abuse.

Adjustable Handlebars

A comfortable working height is important, especially when traversing rough terrain.

Ergonomic Controls

Both on the control panel and on the grips, all DR Field and Brush Mowers controls are designed to optimize operator comfort and minimize hand fatigue. Everything you need is right at your fingertips, so there is no walking around the mower to make adjustments.

Heavy-Duty Powder Coating

Our frames and decks are finished with a tough, durable powder coating that resists scratching and promotes long life.

What a nice operating machine. Runs well and takes care of everything I have asked of it. Only criticism is I wish our machine had a larger fuel tank.

Love this machine. Cleared saplings up to 1 1/2 inches and completely cut down thick brush. Thank goodness it is self-propelled, because it is a little demanding on the turning aspect. I have the manual-start, and I have found that you really need to make sure the machine is primed before starting. Once it is warmed up, re-starting is a breeze.

Even though it is not as easy as the videos lead you to believe, neither is the property that we live on. In 6 days, I have cleaned up some places that a bush hog can not get to and are too big to weed eat. I am still learning how to use this mower the most efficient way.

We have had this unit since early in June and it very well. We had been paying a local company to come out that do the work for us, but it was too expensive to have it done more than once a year, so we had been trying to keep it up with a string trimmer. This brush mower is much faster and more efficient. Highly recommended!

A Beast of a Machine with Plenty of Power
Posted by: Andrew S. from Potosi, MO on 03/27/2018
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
This machine has plenty of power to handle your brush. I have several acres of thick grass and brush that was not cut for the last few years. There were saplings of all sorts growing in among the grasses. Driving this beast through the brush was no problem at all - it never even bogged down on anything until I hit a hidden branch that was like 5 thick.... It also handles my hilly land just fine. Even though this model does not have the pressurized oiler, the hills did not give it a problem. The one negative I had with the whole ordering experience was the estimated shipping time. It said Ships in 3-5 business days on the website, but after making my order, it got pushed back and then pushed back again. It went from 3-5 days to 6-8 weeks I contacted the customer service and they were able to get me this reconditioned model faster, but those shipping estimates should really be more accurate from the get go.

It's a beast....
Posted by: Andrew B. from East Amherst, NY on 03/19/2018
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
I bought a home on eight acres that hadn't been maintained in a long time. Brush had taken twenty feet off every edge of the property, and I wanted to clean up the areas for plantings, trees, and yard. This seemed to be a great purchase price versus renting and significantly cheaper than some competitors. The walk-behind seemed more maneuverable than a tow behind on my CUT, and it is. After using it the first weekend cleared a 20x40 area of brush, alone, I was convinced. She'll get through anything you throw at it, including heavy brush, 6' tall saplings, and even some exposed roots. It clears faster than I can remove debris, and lasts longer everyday than I can. Don't hesitate, it's the real deal... My only complaint I wish it had a larger fuel tank, but it makes a great excuse for a break anyway. My DR and I will be spending a lot more time together this summer, and I look forward to it

This machine is a work-horse!

We purchased to take care of trails on our very steep and rocky, mountainous property. I used it on 2.5 miles of trails, one of which was heavily overgrown with very tall raspberry, blackberry and box alders. The terrain was very rough as this was an old logging trail along the side of the mountain. The PRO-26 10.5 HP mower ate through everything I threw at it and cleared my trails nicely. I tried to miss rocks but they were numerous large hidden ones. I cringed when the blade whacked them, but it didn't even cause the machine to hiccup! Several times it batted out boulders the size of both fists several yards from the machine. This thing is definitely what I was looking for and I had not one single issue with it in all those hours of clearing! Great job DR!

I was one the fence between the PRO-26 or another brand t. Comparing the two, especially price, I chose DR and I have not regretted my purchase. The engine starts with ease, maintenance is simple, and the work it does is phenomenal. I own 2 acres of uneven landscape with tall grass and saplings. The mower is sturdy/heavy, but moves with such ease. It cleared my lot with no problems. Definitely would recommend this product. Getting this product was a whole other issue. I ordered the mower, replacement blade, 3 year service, and home delivery. I received tracking info within a week that showed when to expect my items. When that day came (10 days later), I only received the blade. I called customer service, they reviewed my order, and stated they would call me back by the end of the day with an answer. They did not. I called back the next day, they reviewed my order again, and simply stated my order was “in limbo” due to them moving to another wearhouse. Essentially, I was told the new wearhouse would be notified and I should receive my shipment....8 days later. I just felt customer service dropped the ball with no offers or compensation for a nearly 3 week delay. Equipment great....customer service, not so much.

Picked it up; free shipping was great. Swapped out the blade with the heavy duty blade which arrived a couple of days prior to the mower. Added oil and gas and one pull had it up and running. Clearing some woods behind my house and the machine cuts through the small saplings and briars quickly and safely. Mower is easy to use and has the muscle to do the job as advertised.

We purchased 4 acres to build our home that is thick with trees and thorny vines. The first weekend of cutting trees and renting a walk behind brush cutter to mulch the vines the process went well. I decided the process worked well and purchased the DR brush mower and was impressed with the fact that it is easier to use than the rental. When you think you can't afford one; rent one for a weekend or use the DR for 3 months. That's what the payments equal out for the one weekend rental; and you will have this for years. All this being said after only having 5-6 hours of use.

I replaced my 14 yr old , 8 HP,' All Terrain Mower ' with this newer, 10.5 HP model this past summer . . It's heavier and not as well balanced as my older machine, and I'm not sure I really needed the extra power. But I needed a newer mower and this was the best choice.

Serves a great need. but has a few problems

Rating: Product Review Stars: 3.00 star rating
The process of getting the machine delivered is a story of woe, but let it be said it finally arrived. It went together okay, and when oil was added w/fuel jumped to a start. It is a real task to handle it without the engine running. It is big & heavy. Be prepared to have a method of raising the unit because the drive belt, and clutch cable, along with the wheel lock clutch are all under the machine. Those adjustments are not easy to work without the machine being raised. Maybe car ramps would work. I used a sling and chain fall in my barn. The balance of the machine may be something I can get use to, but lifting the blade deck by pushing is not easy, yet climbing a hill the weight comes back on the operator so the blade deck gets light. The major complaint, at this early stage of ownership, is the shift is not always easy to engage, and your status in one of the four speeds, neutral, or reverse is not certain. Be careful! The cut seems fine and it takes down small saplings and bushes, along with thick field grass easily. Just what you want to avoid purchasing large gear. I had the old DR that had the big wheels with spokes. It served me well for 18 years, and was quite easy to repair. DR was great about providing parts. I wanted the new machine for its reverse. Getting out of those tight places was rough, however it is easier with the new machine, but again be careful of your gear status. With only a few hours I found a horrible squeal coming from the wheels. I hoisted the unit and free turning the wheels it was bad. I called DR thinking that it must be the sealed bearing on the right wheel. The service rep insisted I give a few shots of oil to the wheel lock clutch. Wow! It worked. He was right! Quiet and easier to roll in neutral without power. I wish the Premier had a wheel lock as the weight of that machine is easier to deal with in hilly or uneven, wooded areas. I have not seen any advantage to the tilting cutting bed yet. If you call DR hope you don't wait long. I called on a Monday and they were busy. The music on hold is loud, bluegrass and cycles every 7 or so minutes. If you get transferred it starts from the beginning.

I got my mower this week with the 12.5 HP engine. It was somewhat easy to put together except for the manual which was for a different engine. A bushing on the mower deck was not pressed in far enough to fit on the mower. Luckily I have a lathe to make a bushing driver. I have a 20 year old DR mower, and I really have to say there have been a lot of improvements. Reverse is nice although a little overpowered. The gear shifting is nice. It does cut very excellently. Good control layout although somewhat confusing. My only complaint is the manual being too generic. I look forward to getting a snow blower attachment in the future.

Much better all around than my 17 year old machine. Solid feel and much better traction with the bigger wheels. Good to have multiple speeds and reverse. All in all a real improvement.

After looking for months for a good used brush mower to know avail I just I bit the bullet and purchased a new 26" 12.5 HP pro DR. When I picked the unit up in Merrimack, NH the salesman stated that the unit would do even more than what the promo show. My daughter has approx. 6 acres of completely grown up land that has everything you can think of growing on it from saplings to huge vines to blackberry bushes 8" tall. I mean you can not walk thru the mess let alone even see thru it. I had serious reservations that the machine would touch this mess without having the blade get all caught up in the listeria vines, etc. I put the machine in 1st gear and just dove in! In three hours I had completely cleared a section about 35 yards wide by 65 yards long. No one could believe the damge that I had done. I will not say it was easy and trust me my bleeding arms from the prickers show that it is work but that machine went over everyhitng I could possible put in front of it. The only issue I had and that was really small was she does not like to back up over barberry stumps they catch the on the mower housing but you just go forward and hit it again and I got over most. I do not have any affiliation with DR and have no use for any other DR equipment at least not at this time. I find this machine more than what it claims to be and if it keeps performing like it did the first time out I will be a very happy camper. Thanks

It would help if owners manuals were specific to the machine. There is too much information that was not needed, making things a little confusing.

First time buyer of this equipment. I paid extra for at home delivery. The truck it came out in too big to fit under the trees on the road to house so had to unload, unpack, and walk it in 1/4 mile away. Then unfortunately the mower only worked for about 10 mins / 30 yards - as best as I could determine assembly of the drive clutch never completed. My low mark really for Quality Control. However I found the manual complete enough that I could determine parts not installed. A short call with tech support and stuff 2-day shipped. After I got it back together all has been running fine. Makes easy work of dense brush and easy to use even on 20 degree slope.

Does what it advertises/Does not shift easily/Manual not mower-specific/Irritated customer service
Posted by: Ron002 from North Carolina on 08/21/2013
Rating: Product Review Stars: 4.00 star rating
I've never reviewed any product online, so this will be my first, as it is a major purchase for me. Got my 12.5 hp Pro a couple of weeks after ordering. Got it home and unpacked. It's a 2-man job, so says the manual, but I unloaded and prepped the mower by myself. The one thing that I was really irritated about was the manual. It's one of those "one size fits all" and there were directions in the manual that did not fit my mower. This is the first thing you need to know right off the bat. The manual states for you to fill up the oil crankcase, a little at a time, until you get it filled to the appropriate mark on the dipstick. It would be great if it told you how many ounces it holds, but the manual does not do this, because it is not machine-specific. OK, so I poured and checked at least 20 times before getting it just right, adding maybe an ounce or so at a time, after the first 3/4 quart. Finally got enough oil in. I followed the manual EXACTLY and tried to crank it up. No start. Went through the manual over and over and the thing never would crank. The one thing I could not do (manual instructed to do this) was to be sure that the fuel tank shut off valve was turned on. I looked for 15+ minutes for that valve and never could find it. The manual states, however, that you need to make sure the valve is turned on. OK, it would be helpful to find it first. After that bit of frustration I called support. After going through the prompts and waiting for maybe 10 minutes (no big deal) and finally got a customer service rep. I told her what trouble I was having and that I could not find the valve shut off. She put me on hold, came back, and stated that the 12.5 HP PRO does NOT have a shut off valve. I asked her why I had a general manual that made it sound like the mover DOES have a shut off valve, and she told me I was "escalating." I told her that I work with dementia/Alzheimer's patients and I know "escalating" when I see it. (I cupped the phone and told my wife that I COULD escalate, if she wanted me to!) I also reminded the customer service lady how frustrating it is to get a manual that shows pictures of a Kawasaki engine (whose layout is way different from the Briggs and Stratton on mine), states that you need to make sure the fuel shut off valve is turned on, and does not state how much oil the crankcase holds. (Helpful advice for customer service: Yes, I was bothered by the lack of clear directions in the manual, and I expressed that to customer service. I was not personally attacking her. It is NEVER helpful to tell a customer not to "escalate." If any of you have ever told your spouse to "calm down" during an argument or disagreement, you KNOW what I mean. Not helpful. At all.) After another period of being on hold, she came back and said that it takes 48 ounces of oil and that if I had ANY less or more ("Just one ounce more or less"), the engine would not start. I made sure that I had exactly 48 ounces of oil (dipstick showed proper fill line) and tried to start it. Would not crank. I was told that there was one other thing I could try, and if this did not work, the mower would have to go in for servicing. Per her advice, I completely removed the spark plug, cleaned it, left the plug out, and pulled on the starter rope to see if it would blow oil out of spark plug port. I pulled on the rope a few times and there was some oil that blew out. I wiped out the hole, then replaced the spark plug, and turned on the ignition (still don't know why there is an ignition switch that has to be turned on when it has to be cranked by a pull rope. She did not have an answer for that question except to say that it just works that way.) After all the above, it started on the first pull. Ran like it was supposed to. The floating deck is great and I discovered that if you have high, thick grass, the mower won't necessarily settle all the way to the ground as you mow, even if you are in the lowest gear. That's a good thing, I think, as it allows the mower to "float" alone the ground as it mows. For shorter grass or thinner brush, it'll mow close to the ground as it pulls. For tall or thick stuff, you might need to make more than one pass. I've used it less than 2 hours so far, but one thing I definitely do not like is that the speed gear can be difficult and tricky to shift. The numbers are so close together that's it's sometimes hard to tell which gear I'm in, especially first gear. Mower does not readily accept gear at times and I have to go through gears to make sure I'm in the gear I want to be in. In the field, I'll have it in first or second, so no need to change gears often. In my woods, however, I have to back up a lot and shifting between reverse and first repeatedly gets irritating, again, because the numbers are so close together and it's easy to go past the gear you want to get to. I find the mower easy to maneuver, much easier than I thought. I do a lot of push mowing like nobody's business and I can whip around pretty much any mower I need to. But I am not a big guy and I think the mower weighs more than I do. It's very responsive. Just let it know who the boss is and it will tear through some stuff. It will mow an area a hundred times easier and faster than using my "sacrificial" push mower in my field, and waaaaay better than my combination of machete, sling blade, push mower, and ax in the woods. All in all, for the price, I would think that I could get a machine-specific manual. This would decrease the chance for confusion when trying to follow directions. I also think that the gears could be spaced a bit better and easier to shift without sliding beyond where I intend to put it. p.s. I also wished I had waited a few weeks before purchasing, as the mower is now a hundred bucks less than what I paid... : / Ron
Response from DR SupportWe apologize for the issue you had. Thanks for posting about it. We normally make one manual per model. Because we do use multiple engines on our machines, an engine specific manual from the manufacturer should have come with it also. We will strive to be clearer with the manuals in the future.

The purpose of the Key Switch is for grounding to be able to shut the mower off. We will pass on your comments about the shifting to our engineers. We are always glad to hear suggestions/comments about ways to improve our products.

Thanks again for leaving a review. We’re glad you are enjoying it!

Second DR power equipment item owned. Have had an 11.5hp, 26" DR Brush and Field Mower for 16 months, purchased on consignment. It has exceeded every expectation, including mowing 7-foot tall grass and weeds, thistle bushels, bushels of tree saplings, and operating on rough/sloped terrain. It's even been pressed into finish mowing when other mowers were broken. Very happy with this equipment and recommend it highly.

Runs well but handling is difficult

This machine is well built and sturdy. However, it is cumbersome to use. The weight isn't distributed evenly enough to be able to easily tilt the unit back in order to navigate over gravel drives or steer easily on grass. Since it has runners in front it is often necessary to lift the front end over abrasive surfaces.
Response from DR SupportThank you for posting a review to our website. We are sorry to learn you are not fully satisfied with the purchase of your Brush Mower. Any suggestions on how to make a better machine are always welcome.

The weight forward design does make it a little harder to maneuver, but is important in the brush cutting process to help with the cutting & to help prevent any kickback when getting into the heavier brush/saplings. We will pass your comments to our Product Development department for future consideration.

In the 3 weeks I had it, I put 15 hours on it in very rocky hills. I made an 18 hole frisbee golf course about 2 years ago with a chainsaw and an old, borrowed BIG Wheel DR. I'm now opening up the fairways and clearing brush in all the outer rough areas. I've called twice with questions and got answers promptly. I loved the service so much that I took advantage of your sale and ordered a snow blower. I love the fact that I can use the same power unit and change out attachments for different jobs !

I paid extra and got the brush blade because I wanted it for knocking down, chewing up and spitting out multiflora rose and it does that as effectively as anything out there and I've used most of the competition. I lost one of the bolts that holds the gas tank in place but - amazingly - accidentally found it before I got the notice from DR. After 2 hrs. of use I noticed a squeak when in reverse. This got progressively worse to the point where it wouldn't move in reverse. DR paid to have it taken away and repaired but the offensive part - that the repairman thought had been damaged in shipping - was hammered back into shape rather than replaced. I'm concerned that hammering it into compliance will shorten its useful life but that's my only gripe. I'm 55 years old and weigh about 170 pounds and I've had no problem using this on uneven ground but I can only use it for 1-2 hours at a time max. But now that I've gotten the upper hand on the multiflora bushes, keeping them knocked down has been really easy with this machine.

I purchased my first power mower almost 15 years ago. (15.5 hp) Over the years I have done almost everything I could to destroy it. rough rocky hillsides, wet swampy ground, hunting trails, and really heavy brush. Year after year It fired up and mowed and cut through any thing I asked it to. When it came time for a new one the 12.5 hp model was my choice. Although I now have to pull start it, it fires up on the first pull every time. I am looking forward to many years with the DR Field and Brush Mower parked in the barn

I was worried about being able to handle this 400# monster, but with a little guidance, it will do a whole lot of work with just finger tip pressure. Giving it a little forward speed while turning makes it turn a whole lot easier, than just man handling it. The motor starts easily even with just a pull cord. The only feature I really want to go along with this is a tiller unit.

Have approximately 5 acres to clear and have cleared almost one acre and the cutter has performed extremely well . I was pleased with the starting as I had expected it to be more difficult to start with a 12.5 hp engine. Years back I had used a competitor cutter and the manueverability of the PRO was much easier. I was pleased with the size of brush that it was able to cut.

The machine overall operates as advertised. I have steep hillsides to mow, too steep for a riding mower. The DR 12.5 Pro got to places I wouldn't cut with a weed whacker. Our sandy soil makes treking up down hills rough, but the lockout differential and four speed transmission beat every hill on my property. Easy to pull start, good turning radius, and plenty of power. Mowed my 3.5 acres in 1 weekend. I received some minor warranty notices in the mail. But hey, I appreciate being told that DR might have missed something in production and lets me know about it. This should be the last mower I'll need to buy, thanks DR.

Came well protected in a covered shipping container. Got it home. Filled it with fluids and a couple of pulls on the starter rope and I was off and running. Very powerful machine. I would run over 6ft high scotch broom. Nothing seemed to slow it down except for the car tire I ran across in the field. All the levers are easy to operate. Very happy. I will be using it for years to come. The only con I can think of is that the gas tank seems a little small. Bigger jobs would require a lot of fill ups. But thats okay. I need the breaks.

I have been able to use my machine for a total of 4-6 hrs since I bought it. It went together easily, and works well. But I have already had to fix the wiring when the key wouldn't turn it off. The breaks don't really work, the reverse safety has never worked, and the drive cable broke. DR overnighted me the wrong part, so I am at a week right now and should be getting the right part today. With all the problems, I am loving what it can do. I have 5 acres of overgrown Hazel Nuts. They are half inch thick and up to 7' tall. The DR takes it out like a champ. It leaves a few, but takes out more than 99% on the first pass. It doesn't take down trees like it says, but works well on up to an inch and a half.
Response from DR SupportThanks for posting a review, we appreciate it! We're sorry for the issues you've had. The Brake is a Parking Brake that can be used to assist on hills. It isn’t designed to be used as a “normal” brake. As for the reverse safety, not sure what you are referring to there? We don’t have anything called that.

We’re glad that you like how it works otherwise. If you use the heavy duty blade, your 12.5hp model should take down 2” saplings.

Thanks again for the review!

Solid farm hand
Posted by: LibertyOrBust from Indiana on 06/19/2013
Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
I did a lot of research before I bought this little brush cutter. I'm sure some of the options out there would be easier to use in many circumstances. Several machines are lighter and more maneuverable. You can find smoother transmissions, for sure. But I'm pretty sure I made the right choice for my farm and woods. It was almost crazy that for years I've struggled with bush hogs behind tractors in narrow trails, making deep ruts, getting smacked in the face with limbs, when, in just a few hours, I cleared away a lot of fence row saplings, multiflora rose bushes, prickly and thick thises and thats over trails with a lot less drama and fear of tumbling into my pond and streams! This is a very solid, well-designed machine. The rotating front deck is more necessary than you might think. I used the locking differential more than once on the first time I used it. The controls might not be the easiest, but they are simple and rugged. The only downsides are that this is no turn-on-a-dime device. It's a handful if you encounter sudden drops in terrain under the thick shrubs you thought were on level ground. It takes a little practice to get comfortable with it. And it does go through gas pretty quick when you're mowing down thick grass and lots of heavy, woody stuff. You will refill the small tank pretty often, and you will be tired after cutting on rugged, twisty/turny terrain. One other tiny negative: The front bar was pretty badly abraded/nicked up in two places in contact with the pallet during transit. That could've been avoided with better packing. But DR responded pretty immediately, and I'm satisfied with their response. So the bottom line is that I thought my first use would be using it every day for a week; yet I got everything done in a day instead. And I've actually looked forward to unleashing this little beast every time since.

I bought the 25th anniversary edition because I planned to buy a piece of land and knew I would need a brush mower to clear it. Well, I bought a piece of land that had been sitting for several years and had a good bit of small trees and brush that needed to be cleared. The DR handled it like a champ and just rode up the brush and mowed it down with out breaking a sweat. 3rd and 4th gear are a bit faster than I would like to walk behind it but my wife got a good yuck watching me try to keep up. It handled everything I threw at it and could handle more. Very happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of use.

I have had this for a week now and love it. Does everything they say it will and then some. It goes through saplings like butter bigger stuf with just as much ease. I also have lots of vines, kudzu and briars, and there is where the problems start. I received this on a monday, on Tuesday I ripped off the quick oil change valve. Whoever at drpower that thought that would be a good ideal was wrong. I fixed that with a brass plug. Today the clutch cable broke, had to use a pair of pliers to pull on cable to get it out of the woods. As I have said I love this machine. Starting to question the quaility of some parts though.

I approach any purchase with skepticism, so buying unseen & untried except for reading reviews & literature- it was out there for me. But the price was right, DR said it could do what I wanted, and if I didn't like- just ship it back. Hey- take 3yrs at 0% also. There wasn't anything else that I researched that I thought could do the job, so okay- I'm in. I ordered with the big DR sale just on and saved even more. My challenge is 6 acres of overgrown, long neglected land I purchased that is prolific with huge multi-flora rose plants and vines, bramble and other woody scrub plants that made access to most of the land near impossible. I had attacked the land with chainsaw, weed eater, 3' lopping shears & an old lawnmower peviously- a lot of work- not a lot of success. Tiring, & difficult. It was almost I could look over my shoulder and see the land winning. Enter my new 12.5hp Pro....... only had it for a week, but in 6 hours I have cleared almost 2 acres- no question - I rule now. It does everything they say, performs perfectly. Make no doubt about it- it is a beast in the woods. I still have to take the chainsaw with me for now- those familar with multiflora rose know it is the nastiest stuff, so it is thru personal preservation that I cut my way into that stuff with the chainsaw, then send the DR over it. However, I will only need the chainsaw for firewood after this initial clearing. The DR and I wll get along just fine after this. I can finally see my land- amazed at how good it looks. Me- I'm impressed with my 12.5hp purchase. Its built like its name- Pro. Sturdy beyond belief. Powerful. Traction. Speed selection. The pivoting head is awesome following the contours. And NO clogging- ever! You won't go wrong. Great job DR! This is right up there with some of my lifetimes best purchases. Great value for a great product.

Q.I Live in Northern Minnesota. My Hunting Camp is up near the Canadian Border and the terrain is quite rocky. My worry is when running this Mower, the chance of hitting a rock is quite high. I know just from mowing grass with a normal lawn mower that there are those hidden-unseen rocks that, no matter how careful, they get hit. It is way to expensive to bend a crank shaft etc....unless there is a clutch that will slip first to avoid major damage to tranny or engine? With so many of these units purchased, I can't be the first person with this concern. Just curious ???
A.Thank you for contacting us and your interest in the DR 10.5 Pro Field and Brush Mower.

The Field and Brush Mowers are designed for rough, rocky terrain. When mowing this type of property, you will come in contact with all types of material. The blade is belt driven to prevent damage to the engine when hitting rocks, stumps, etc. The custom-made blade spindle shrugs off high impact. The cutting height is 4 inches which helps to avoid many obstacles.

Q.I have stock ponds and need to know the angle this unit can mow? Horizontally and Vertically on the bank.
A.Our units are capable of use on slopes up to 20 degrees. This is for safety reasons as well as ensuring the engine is adequately lubricated. If your terrain is hilly I would recommend considering the 16.50 Pro or the Pro-XL models. They feature a full pressure fuel and oil pump which is ideal for slopes.

Thank you for your interest. fc

Q.I am 5 foot 3 and not the strongest person in the world. Will I be able to use this machine on hilly terrain?
A.Thank you for contacting us and your interest in the DR 10.5 Pro Field and Brush Mower.

The 10.5 Pro model does have 4 forward gears and 1 reverse. It also has a feather touch control lever that gives you total control of the speed. We do recommend that the hills are no steeper than 20 degrees.

The handle bars are fixed at 41.5 inches off the ground and the machine does weigh 312 lbs. We do have DR Dealers all around the country if you would like to see one in person. Now, they are private dealers, so I can not check what they have in stock. Here is the web page to locate the closest one to you;

Q.What do you do to move the machine forward? It appears that you must hold down the lever on the left handle? I had sycle bar mower that worked liked that , a nice machine, but tremendously tiring on the hand. How does yours work?
A.Thank you for contacting us.

The DR Walk Behind Field and Brush Mower does have a Wheel Clutch Lever that controls the speed of the mower in all gears. Simply select the gear and squeeze the lever to adjust the speed. The tighter you squeeze, the faster it will go.
