Overview
K10 RapidFire

SIMPLER—the K10 has very few moving parts to go wrong - especially compared to hydraulic splitters with their pumps, valves, pistons, hoses, and fluid.

STRONGER—a 25 lb. flywheel spinning at 490 rpm stores energy from the K10’s 110-volt electric motor.

FASTER—energy is unleashed via a rack and pinion gear, achieving a lightning-fast, 1-second cycle time (the time it takes for the ram to split the log AND return!).

Indoor-Outdoor Use

Indoor-Outdoor Use!

With no fumes and very little noise, you can operate the K10 outdoors...or out of the weather in a barn, garage, or front porch.

Powerful Electric Motor

Powerful Electric Motor

2 HP Electric motor plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet and generates 1060 watts of output power.

Auto Retraction

Auto Retraction

With ordinary splitters you have to engage the return lever until the ram is back to its starting position. The RapidFire retracts automatically, leaving your hands free to load the next piece of wood for splitting.

Easy to Maneuver

Easy to Maneuver

Transport handle (on front leg) and 6" diameter wheels allow you to easily move the K10 around your shop or garage like a hand truck.

Compact Storage

Compact Storage

At less than a foot wide and just four feet long, the K10 easily stores under a workbench and transports in the trunk of your car.

Pinion Gear

Twice-Hardened Steel Pinion Gear

The Pinion Gear transfers energy from the Flywheel to the Ram. Industrial steel is case-hardened twice during manufacturing for bomb-proof durability.

Impressive power, but falls apart
Posted by: Damien M. from Kearneysville, WV on 05/23/2017

I am honestly very impressed by what this little splitter can do. I can split logs of fairly large girth, and I love that it's electric. But... it keeps falling apart. I've had it replaced once after multiple parts came loose, and now, after a nut fell off from a part I can't even identify from a cursory exam, I am going to ask for a full refund. I think it's a great splitter and it gets five stars for power and portability. (One person along cannot lift it, but the wheels and front handle allow one to take it anywhere on one's property.) My rating of two stars is entirely about the construction. I just can't have a splitter that falls to pieces on the job.

Great for Small rounds With No Knots
Posted by: Bruce C. from Waterville, WA on 05/08/2017

If you have a lot of straight-grained logs (few to no knots) of short length this splitter will do you well. It is very quick and easy. Unfortunately I learned too late that the 10-ton rating does not begin to compare with my 6-ton hydraulic splitter. This splitter gives one 10-ton whack (much like what would be done by a hand maul) and that's it. While a hydraulic splitter gives a sustained pressure. Last Fall I was easily splitting rounds of black locust (tough wood) with my hydraulic splitter. When I tried to use the RapidFire it would barely dent the logs.

tough little beast !

Rating:
I'm pretty impressed. I run it off a generator, beside my stacking area, so completely portable for me. I built a raised table from pallets a few feet off ground, so I dont have to bend over as much. Requires 2 people to lift. Most of my fires are outdoors, so I'm not real picky on the wood gathered. Did great with elm...average 10 inch diameter by 14 inch long. Did some pine for outdoor fires and some of that was 24 inch diameter. did great, but did require 2 or 3 hits to split initially. It doesn't do hackberry well. Not a good wood anyways, but what Mother Nature put on the ground after a storm. I think if the logs dry out for a month or two, I may have more luck. My complaint is the wheel base and tires. They are designed for slim storage, but nearly impossible to roll over mowed grass. Tips over easily while rolling. I'll modify the when base for sure to add stability.

Superb in every way

I admit I was skeptical of this small, inexpensive log splitter, but I read the reviews and watched the video until I bought it. It arrived quickly and the assembly took 5 minutes. Assembly is turning the front support 180 degrees by loosening and tightening two bolts- that's it. After that I was splitting wood. If you buy one make sure to bring a lot of wood to the area of the splitter so you can split a bunch. I split oak (lots of it), heavy almond and little bit of pine. All split in less than two seconds. I did manage to put a couple of big pieces that stopped the splitter. A second actuation did the trick. I wanted small kindling size pieces and it filled the back of my SUV in 15 minutes. Most of that time was spent walking to get more wood, not splitting. I have already loaned it to a neighbor for his use, I'm done for a couple of weeks. He is 90 (a strong 90) and was quickly busy splitting his wood. It is EASY and QUICK. Great machine!

Fantastic splitter!
Posted by: DAVE J. from EVERGREEN, CO on 02/14/2017
Rating:
I'm about 15 cords in and I'm very pleased. I process about a cord an hour by myself, or about 3/hr with two helpers. Yeah, it's that fast. The splitter processes up to 18", but i find leaving 2-3" for the ram to gain momentum seems to help with stubborn (knotted) logs. The ram splits the wood and returns in just a couple seconds. I run the splitter off my Ryobi inverter generator. It has a start of 2200 watts, and has running watts of 1800. The splitter bogs the generator down a little with tough logs. I end up giving some a love tap before driving through. I also have to baby it a little on startup or it trips the overload on my generator. I would go below 2200w on startup or 1800w running for this machine if you're using a generator to power it. The machine is virtually silent. I'm pretty sure DR makes a similar version and sells to TimerChamp. I started with one of those from Lowe's and returned it...wouldn't run on my generator. I think the DR is of better quality in general, although some of the similarities make me think they're made by the same folks...just a guess though. Some people have complained on other machines that the return spring isn't tight enough. So far the ram on this machine returns with no problems. If I were designing this machine, I might increase the useable length to 20" (since cordwood is generally measure in 18" lengths). I would also change the wheels to support more rough terrain. But those are minor, the thing really tears through wood. FYI, I'm processing mostly douglas fir and ponderosa pine. Although these are softer woods, i think the knots can make it harder. I think this would work just fine for harder, straighter woods, but that's just an opinion, not sure. If you're looking to process 18"+ logs (DR says 12", but i do some bigger), then this isn't right for you.

Splitting Good
Posted by: Joseph D. from Massapequa, NY on 01/11/2017

The log splitter works great. Only split a few log, no complaints on the ease of operation. I think the wheels should be wider for easier movement. One negative was the packing of the splitter. The box was broken and secured allowing a screw and bolt to become dislodged. Minor difficulty reattaching it.

Works OK
Posted by: Charles from Bandera, TX on 01/09/2017
Rating:
This unit has worked OK for me and done the job of splitting wood. Everything I have split so far has been older well seasoned wood, mostly oak. One issue is the ram stops almost 3 inches from the blade and sometimes does not fully split the wood. The ram does not always retract on its own, have to bump it or hit the cycle lever again. It sounds pretty rough when the pinion engages. Otherwise, it is quiet and can put out a pile of split wood quickly.

Great little splitter
Posted by: Anthony V. from Ardmore, PA on 11/17/2016
Rating:
I bought the splitter back in July and did not have the time to use it immeidatly. I brought it out this past weekend and within an hour/+ had split approximately a cord of seasoned fire wood. You have to have the logs approximately 12-16" in length so that the ram can get enough drive, but it was very quick and efficient. Even large diameter logs were easy to split as you just rotated them and continued to split. It took on a 24 inch diameter piece of seasoned black walnut no problem. It will get stuck on some knots, but you just release it and hit it again and it pushed right through. For an average homeowner who is collecting cutting and burning stove wood, it is a great and cost effective splitter. Suggestion, keep the splitting wedge sharp, and bring a hammer so that you can get the big knots off the wedge if they get stuck. Great Product.

It's an AWESOME log splitter, my only complaint is the wheels are too small. The should be larger so you can roll the log splitter through a door. It makes that task impossible because the large metal bar between the wheels is too close to the ground.

Received it the other day. Got it only 4 days after I ordered it. Tested it on a medium year old unsplit honey locust log. Split it into kindeling in no time at all. I'm a disabled veteran , I have a heart condition which prevents me from swinging an axe and maul more than just a few swings. I got this to split the firewood I purchased that ended up to big. I managed to split in 10 minutes what it would have taken me a good week or two to do by hand. Wasn't even breathing hard in 10 minutes of use. We will see how durable it is over time but, for now, I'm happy with my purchase. I also had a few even harder logs to split. Knots etc... big ones. It took several times, flipping it over etc to get it done. And it even started slipping the belt a little. I found out that if the belt starts to slip. I'm pushing it to had. I would rather burn a cheep belt rather than burn the expensive motor. It did eventually split that hard to split log. So far. So good. Many of the other brand hydraulic electric splitters had bad reviews. Things like leaking hydraulic cylinder to burned out motors. I got this one to get away from that. even splitting the hard to split log didn't strain the electric motor much at all. And I don't have to worry about leaking hydraulics. The only issue would be slightly wider and taller wheels with a slightly taller handle/support at the other end. Really hard to pull the splitter through gravel with those tiny narrow wheels. But otherwise; nicely designed.

We don't burn wood at home but we do love a huge campfire while we're at camp in the Adirondacks. We did have an older electric / hydraulic maching that onle lasted two years. While we were at camp several weeks ago, we decided to go to the Vergennes DR Store and asked to see the K-10 split a peice of wood. BAM... A few minutes later it was loaded onto my trailer and off we went. I have used this for a few weekends now and absolutely love it. She operates the controls and I supply the rounds. WOW... Talk about fast and efficient... I am hard to impress and even harder to satisfy but that's not the case with this machine or the service that I received while we were at the store. The main reason that I chose this model is because of the lack of manitenance that it requires and the warranty that is standard as well as the extended warranty that is available. One recomendation that I would have would be for current and future owners of this mighty little beast is to put a drop of locktite on the rear adjusting bolt for the belt tension. I say this because I have not had to make any adjustments as of yet but the nut that locks the adjustment in place keeps falling off.

I went through over a half cord of wood in about an hour and a half. The logs varied in size, but the diameter of some of them were large. This little work horse did a great job with just a few times where I had to dislodge the log from the wedge and restrike the log. Interestingly, all the huge logs split on the first try. I just dropped the tailgate on my F250, secured the log splitter on it and had the kids stack the wood as I split it. Great tool for the price.

This unit works great. I have split 8" to 24" rounds, green & dry. Pine, Maple, Locust, Ash. Splits wood in half the time. Even splits tight branch grouped trees like Austrian pine,( which my wedge and torpedo won't touch.) Two improvements would help in moving the unit. Larger diameter back wheels and another handle at rear of unit. Very limited lower clearance when rolling on wheels and when you need to lift it over a step the only thing grapable is the motor.

After waiting for a back-ordered K-10 to arrive, I can finally agree that this machine is AWESOME!!! My neighbor had an infested California oak that had to come down & I was the first person there to recover the tree. It has seasoned in my back yard for almost a year and has proven the K-10 worthy of the praise from other users. Only about 10% of the tree is bad but the rest is solid oak and the K-10 cuts it like it was Balsa wood. Thank you, DR!

Amazing speed and power!
Posted by: Bryan T. from Cleveland, OH on 12/14/2015
Rating:
I too am an owner of the DR 6 ton model and while it has served me just fine over the years it did have one major drawback...speed, or the lack thereof. That problem has been virtually eliminated with the advent of the K10 Electric Model. This unit is so fast and quiet you wouldn't believe it's a log splitter. I love splitting logs and now I'm enjoying it even more. The fact that I don't have to put gas or oil in it is another plus as I don't have the space for yet another gas powered engine. If you're looking for a small log splitter packed with power you'd be hard pressed to find anything on the market that comes close to rivaling the DR K10. So far it's gone through everything I've thrown at it with hardly a whimper. I want to thank DR also for the extra savings they offered to previous 6 ton owners like myself because it sealed the deal for me. This is an excellent machine for the homeowner that splits logs for their own personal use. I plan to construct a table to sit it on to make it even more useful.

I had a DR 6-ton hydraulic logsplitter for many years and it worked quite well. My only complaint about it was that it was SLOW going; easier on the back and arms than swinging an axe, but it was slow going. The K10 solved that problem! It is hard to imagine being able to split logs any faster. I literally could not keep up with the machine; meaning my ability to feed logs in for splitting was the bottleneck. Truely a game changer.

Powerful and fast
Posted by: Don Selby (DR Product Testing Manager) from Vergennes, VT on 10/22/2015
Rating:
During product testing we split 50 cords of mixed hard and softwoods with the K-10. Most of the wood was 12" in diameter and 16" long. However we did test splitting logs up to 16" in diameter. We did extensive testing of the rack and pinion system—primarily because the unit's flywheels turn faster than our larger splitters. I liked the machine a lot. It is quiet, powerful, and very fast (faster, in fact than our larger machines due to the faster rpm's). It is extremely quiet and there are no fumes, so it's perfect for indoor use during bad weather. You can pretty much use it anywhere.

Q.Some Electric Log Splitters require a 20 Amp outlet. Can I use a 15 Amp outlet for the K10 Rapidfire Kinetic Log Splitter?
A.Thank you for contacting us. Under a full load the K10 Log Splitter motor draws 14 amps, so your 15 amp outlet will work. A good extension cord is important for maximum power and effective splitting. We offer a 25 ft 12 gauge cord, #20293 that will deliver the power the splitter needs. Please contact us if you have further questions.

Q.Will this equipment split elm and juniper (cedar) logs ?
A.Our RapidFire splitters are very powerful machines. They are capable of splitting any hard or soft woods within their splitting capacity. If the wood is knotty or rough, it may require an additional run through the splitter. However, with a 1 second cycle time, it would still get the job done fast. Thank you for your inquiry.

Q.I see that one hand lifts on the Safety Interlock Lever and the other hand engages the top lever. I see a toggle switch on top of the unit. Do you have to press the toggle switch each time you cut a log, or just once to turn the unit on at the beginning of the work session and then once again to turn the unit off when done?
A.The Toggle Switch on top is just the on/off button for the motor.

Q.The K10 description says that it takes 16" logs. Is that maximum length or diameter?
A.16 inches is the maximum log length for the K-10 splitter. The maximum diameter is 12 inches. This is a great table top unit with a 1 second cycle time that makes splitting smaller logs easy and efficient.

Q.What exactly does the "n-ton" splitter mean, n = 10, 22, etc. How does it compare to swinging a 9 lb splitting maul?
A.The RapidFire wood splitters are not measured in tonnage, as the cycle time of one second is too fast to accurately rate. It has been tested and can, side by side, out-split a 10 ton hydraulic wood splitter. There is no accurate way to compare it to splitting with a maul, but it will certainly be a lot easier!
