Features
Flywheel

Massive Solid-Steel Flywheel

The 3-Point hitch model’s chipping knife is mounted to a flywheel that is cut from heavy steel (3/4" thick) and weighs 33 pounds. The spinning flywheel provides the inertia necessary for the chipper knife to power through knotty, hardwood branches at an incredible 34 bites per second.

Hopper

Over-Sized Hoppers

The 3-Point hitch model’s chipper hopper opening (9" x 13") accepts 4.5” branches with little or no trimming of side branches. The shredder hopper opening is 18.5” x 9.5”, big enough to accept multiple stalks of quarter-inch thickness or less along with side branches and leaves.

Hammers

Free-Swinging Hammers

The 3-Point hitch model features 8 free-swinging hammers that shred garden waste, lawn clippings, and weeds into useful, nutrient-rich mulch for your garden and flower beds. Each long-lasting hammer has three positions, allowing you to switch to a fresh set of shredding edges when performance starts to decline.

Belt

Super-Duty Cogged Drive Belt

Cogged drive belt prevents slipping, for full power transfer from the engine to the flywheel. The belt is also designed to stay cool, even as it travels 3,800 ft/minute. That translates into fewer belt changes over the life of your machine.

Frame

Heavy-Duty Steel Frame

Many chippers look like they're built to sit in one place. DR Chippers are made to be on the move, so you can get your chipper wherever you need to be on your property. We use rugged, welded-steel frames designed to withstand transport over punishing terrain year after year.

Clutch

Commercial-Grade Clutch

The commercial-grade centrifugal clutch used on our chippers is similar to those used in well drilling. There is no load on the engine until it reaches 1,600 rpm. If you do manage to find a branch tough enough to slow the engine to 1,600 rpm, the clutch will automatically disengage the engine until it's back up to speed.

Great Purchase

This is the real deal. Thought about getting the straight up chipper, bus so glad I went with the Chipper /shredder. This machine takes whatever we put through it and turns it into usable mulch that will be used in the garden and around the property. Logs too big to chip? No problem, just split then up so that they are under 5" and keep working. some of the shredded material was a bit big, but we just ran it back through and it was a manageable size. This machine is heavy enough to do what we ask of it and at the same time light enough to be easy to mount behind my JD 4105. I can already see this providing years of service. Keep it greased and the blade sharp and keep on chipping......

Once I got the machine running, it performed very well

It took approx. 3 weeks to ship the order once entered, then the shipper never called, so it sat at their dock for approx. another week, then the original PTO shaft was too short, so another delay to get the longer PTO shaft. Problems with assembly: Directions said to install the chipper shoot first which I did. However, it then interfered with the ability to get a wrench on the shredder shoot. The shredder shoot uses 4 rubber wel nuts to absorb some vibration in the shoot. Good idea, but I only received 3 wel nuts and bolts. All the wel nuts available locally are only 3/4 inch, but this machine uses 1 1/4 wel nuts...a problem. The shredder shoot would not fit into the base machine. The shredder shoot sat directly on top of the machine base, rather than inside the machine leaving a 3/4 inch gap between the two mounting flanges...a wel nut is not going to work with this much gap. Had to dis assemble and use a 20 inch crescent wrench to bend the machine flange a few mm to open up the connection. You could see a slight bend to the machine flange likely from the weld. Was the shredder shoot "test fitted" into the machine before shipping??? Once the machine was fully assembled, I am going to grease it before using. There was no access to the grease fitting for the lower shaft on the PTO end. I had to remove the pulley cover. Then could not get the grease gun on the zerk without first removing the belt tensioner. 30 minutes work to access the fitting. I installed a 90 degree fitting in the bearing so I would not have to remove the belt tensioner in the future. Once all the prep work was completed, the chipper shredder attached perfectly to my tractor and works very well.

Ours is one of the older bottom side discharge units and it still going strong after 6 or 7 years of light use. We would have preferred the top discharge model but it was not available yet when we bought ours.

This has been a much-used purchase to keep our property clear.

This was purchased for the use of clearing debris. We live in a hurricane prone area of the Gulf, and have used it successfully after several storms to clear limbs, using the mulch for our plants, and other trees. It has proven beneficial for both clearing the land, and also saving water by mulching plants. it has proven to be all that it was advertised to be; efficient, practical, and a good piece of equipment for a large place like ours. We have 12 acres to keep up, and at our ages (in our 70's), we can still operate this equipment ourselves efficiently and fairly easy. It paid for itself after the first storm. We have been quite pleased with its performance.

This product performs great on dry wood but I have had problems with clogging up on green wood. It is very easy to operate. I have found no problem with mounting this product on my 42 horse tracter. It has been a great help in cleanning up brush on our land.

I love the DR Chipper. I set it up to shoot the chips into a trailer to easily carry them around the property. I have trimmed all our trees and some of the neighbors' trees and haven't gotten anything hung up in the machine or cut a branch too big to go through the chipper. It's so much easier to make chips for mulch, or even disposal, than to gather the brush and limbs and try to haul them off or dispose of them. I have had friends bring over their brush and limbs and used the chipper to create mulch for them. This is worth the money!

We have purchased 3 machines from DR Power Equipment. We order a Chipper smaller one and then ordered a larger one when we had more clearing to do. My wife loves the idea of using the mulch verse buying it. We have told several people about your product and will continue to pass the word about DR Power Equipment and there awesome equipment.

Have had it for 3 years and I am always loseing apple trees. They are old and rotten . Every wind takes some limbs down and use chipper/shredder to reduce waste. Use it with a Massie 35 tractor. Does fast job. Have not even worn out a belt and only had to sharpen cutter blade a couple times. Well worth money spent.

I purchased the 3 Point Hitch Model, 3 years ago, when I bought a piece of property that has 20 very mature pecan trees on it. I was blessed to also inherit a pile of limbs big enough to fill an 18 wheeler box van. At age 67, I must pace my work. I would work 2 or 3 hours a day until all limbs were turned into chips. I was amazed at not only how well it cut thru the limbs, which by the way, range from the size of a pencil up to 4 inches in diameter, and at the simplicity of the maintence. As rugged as this is built, I will never have to purchase another chipper. I could never have completed this large task with anything less than this professional quality tool.

Q.height of shredder hopper
How high from ground level is top of shredder hopper?
A.The opening of the shredder hopper is actually at a slight angle declining toward the operator. The closest point of the opening to the operator stands ~51" off the ground. The tallest point of the opening (furthest away from the operator) stands ~57" off the ground. Q.Is there an extended chipper chute for shredder units?
I've read that the chipper/shredder discharges only downwards, and yet "the two functions are physically separate". Is it not possible to use an extended chute on the chipping portion? I am used to a design that chips the log into the flail-shredder part to be discharged and cannot be redirected. When chipping a large pile of branches the chipper has to be moved frequently, or I have to stop and rake the pile of chips out from under the machine. This is a time-consuming step and a pain if I want to bag or move the new mulch to a garden.
A.We are sorry an extended discharge chute is not available for the chipper shredders. The chipper and shredder hoppers share a common discharge chute, and they are not separate. The chipper discharges into the hammer mill and then drops out the discharge chute. Thanks for your question

Q.Is the 3-point chipper/shredder better than the 3-point chipper for tearing up brush such as multiflura rose and autumn olive?
I recently moved back to the family farm and see how bad the pasture has overgrown with brush. The main things that are needing cleared are sumac, autumn olive, and multiflora rose. By reading over a few reviews here, I see that there may be a potential of clogging this machine with these types of brush, especially if it is green. This unit seems to be made very similar to the 3-point chipper that you also manufacutre. Please let me know otherwise, but the difference is that this chipper/shredder has a second stage in it that pulverises the chippings possibly by some sort of swinging chains or prong like teeth. Since this unit has the second stage in it, would it be less likely to clog up on greener, leafier brush? I am just interested in chipping this brush up into piles that can later be burned to dispose of, would both of these chippers give me an equal result of what I need done, or would one be better than the other, and why?
A.The Chipper/Shredder isn't a 2 stage. Chipping and Shredding are 2 separate functions of this unit. They have their own chutes and are physically separated. The Chipper/Shredder would be the better option for you.

Q.What hp tractor do I need to run this? Also can It grind hole corn & wheat? for feed?
A.You will need a Category 1 hitch with a PTO speed of 540 RPM's. The Horsepower can be between 19-65. I'm not sure that the Shredder will shred fine enough, but you could run the corn through the Chipper after the Shredder to reduce it further?

Q.how fine will it cut or chop fir bows
A.The 3 Point Hitch Chipper/Shredder chipping capacity is 4-1/2" and depending on the sharpness of the blade and if it is green or dry wood, the chips will be approximately 1/8" to 1/2" in diameter. The shredding capacity is 1-1/2" and there are 48 free swinging shredding hammers that can be flipped four ways for optimal usage. The shredder screen, which has 1-1/2" x 5-5/8" oval holes, works together with the shredder hammers to allow debris to be pulverized before being released.

Q.Compatibility with John Deere 1026R Tractor
Wil the 3 PT chippper/Shredder be compatible with the John Deere Series 100 1026R compacttractor, or would I need a larger tractor?
A.The 3 Point Hitch Chipper/Shredder mounts to the PTO of a Category 1 Hitch Tractor, 19-45 HP. The PTO speed should be run at 540 RPMs. The Chipper/Shredder can chip wood up to 4-1/2" and shred material up 1-1/2".

Q.What is the size of the opening to the hammer chamber?
Literature states that the hopper opening is 20x20. I assume that's measured at the top of the hopper. What is the opening at the bottom of the hopper to the hammer chamber?
A.The opening to the hammermill is 7 3/4" x 14". This is so you cannot over load the shredder with too much material at once. Thanks.
