Overview

Till while you ride, 3-feet wide!

Tow the PREMIER-36T Rototiller behind your ATV, riding mower, or tractor and you'll break ground and turn soil faster and easier than you ever thought possible! The DR does the hard work while you ride in comfort. The PREMIER model has much in common with its larger PRO counterpart, but uses a manual lever-operated depth control, has smaller tires, and 12 tines for churning soil.

Unlike walk-behind tillers, the DR Tow-Behind Tiller doesn't divide its engine power between moving the machine forward and turning the tines. The full power of its overhead valve Briggs & Stratton engine is dedicated to the real task at hand, tilling the soil. Your tow vehicle takes care of the propulsion, and with its weight, actually holds the tiller back to create maximum churn and prevent the tiller from lurching forward as walk-behinds often do.

The result? The DR Tow-Behind Tiller will thoroughly till your garden or landscaped area in a fraction of the time required by any walk-behind tiller. Even better, it is twice as wide as most ordinary tillers and has 12 steel bolo tines for cultivating. That means faster, more thorough tilling, with none of the strain associated with tillers that require brute strength to control them. Instead, you just ride and relax.

Product Summary:

  • Engine: Briggs & Stratton 9.50 CR Series OHV
  • Tilling Area: 36" wide, up to 7.5" deep (variable)
  • Manual lever allows you to control tilling depth
  • Shock absorbing hitch absorbs jolts for a smoother ride
  • Manual-starting

Warranty:

  • Engine: 2 years residential, 90 days commercial
  • Machine: 2 years residential, 90 days commercial

Features

DR Rototillers - Tow-Behind Series

DR PRO Roto-Hog Rototiller with spreader attachment

Features

Thanks to tow-behind convenience, auto-depth adjustment, and dedicated power, tilling is easy with the DR Tow-Behind Tiller. And thanks to rugged engineering and proven technology, that performance will deliver a great garden year after year.

Exclusive Features of DR Tow-Behind Tillers

Manual Depth Control
Manual Depth Control

A simple lever, within easy reach from your tow vehicle, allows you to adjust the tilling depth while you remain seated. Just stop the vehicle, make the adjustment, and resume tilling.

12 bolo tines on a DR pull-behind rototiller
12 Bolo Tines

Forged of tough tempered steel, these tines spin at over 230 rpm to dig up to 7-1/2" deep and mix soil completely. The intricately designed sweeps and curves of each tine minimize the wrapping of vegetation.

Belt-drive system on a DR pull-behind rototiller
Belt-Drive System

Transfers full power from the engine to the tines. Shear pins on the tine shaft are designed to break if the tines hit an immovable object, to protect the engine and engine shaft from damage. (Four extra shear pins are included and they are simple to install. No tools required.)

Smooth-trak hitch on a DR pull-behind rototiller
SMOOTH-TRAK™ Hitch

Our unique hitch absorbs shocks and jolts so that minimal forward motion from the tiller is transmitted to the towing vehicle for smoother and easier operation.

Extra heavy-duty steel frame on a DR pull-behind rototiller
Extra Heavy-Duty Steel Frame

This frame is built to last under punishing conditions. Made of 1-1/2" square tubing and 12-gauge steel. Baked on powder coat finish resists corrosion.

14-inch transport tires on a DR pull-behind rototiller
Transport Tires

The tires are resin composite and 9.5" in diameter and 2" wide for easy rolling during transport.

OMG I just received mine today and it works awesome. If I would of known how difficult it would be to lift the tines up at the end of the row I definitely would of paid the xtra 700 for the automatic lifting system. If your not real strong in the arms and back pay the xtra. I just got mine but wish I could switch it out.

Pro: Tiller performed very well in the silt soil conditions I used it in. After a long winter and the soil compacted from the melting snow, I set the height to 3 and made easy work of a 1 acre lot. Con: The machine did not ship with oil in transmission unit like the manual says. I added gear, engine oil then greased the axle for safety

Test run

Rating: Product Review Stars: 5.00 star rating
Received this in early December, so was only able to do a test tilling before the ground freezes up. My wife drove the lawn tractor and I followed alongside to raise/lower the tiller and disengage the tiller clutch which is probably how we'll operate next spring. The only thing I would encourage in the instructions is explanation of how the depth "spike" works to set the depth of the tilling rather than have me play around with it to figure out which positions increase tilling depth. Otherwise, tilling our garden (approx. 30' x 100') took only a little over an hour for one pass. If we had done a 2nd pass or 3rd it would have gone faster.

I'm 77 years old and thought I would be giving up gardening until I discovered this tiller. I'm even helping my other elderly friends by tilling their gardens. I do have to stop the yard tractor to raise and lower the tines rather than doing it while riding. Other than that, I am very pleased with the product.

I bought my unit 3 years ago, the price was quite a bit higher. Unit was very easy to assemble, couldn't wait to use it, it done a great job. My only fault with the machine is that it does not have enough horsepower, if the company would add 3 or 4 more horses to this machine I would consider trading my in for another. Service after the sale is excellent, my first time out with the unit I had a flat tire, called the company and no questions asked they sent me a new tire and rim. Thanks.

Q.what sets this apart from the craftsman model
Same engine, same design, same specs as craftsman, why should I pay more money in product and shipping. Even if I purchase the two year warranty from Sears the DR will still cost more.
A.What our brand has to offer over some other brands is, our 6 month trial period, lifetime technical support and our excellent warranty. Our 6 month trial period (which may be longer at certain times of the year) allows for you to test the machine out before you make the long term commitment. If for whatever reason you were not 100% satisfied with it's performance, you could return it back to us for a refund. Less shipping. We also offer lifetime tech support on all of the DR products. Our staff is very knowledgeable on all of our machines and would do their very best at resolving any issues that may arise over the years. Including warranty issues. Our machines ship standard with a 2 year warranty. You will also have the option of extending to a full 5 years in 1 year increments. This covers parts, shipping of the parts and labor. We have hundreds of service shops throughout the country and our Tech Reps would be able to guide you to the nearest shop if ever a problem may arise. Thank you for you interest in the DR Rototiller.

Q.What is the durability of the 24 Tine Roto-Hog
I see that DR recommends the 24 tine Roto-Hog for breaking new ground howeve I see in your feedback on it that there are numerous issues involving broken belts and shear pins. What have you done to correct this continuing headache? I am a disabled veteran that cannot be plagued with constantly getting off and on the tractor to replace these parts.
A.Thank you for your inquiry. Typically if someone is having continued issue with this unit braking belts or shear pins continuously braking, this is most likely caused by one of two things. Either the operator is trying to work the machine too hard or else there is a further issue with the machine such as a component being out of alignment or a damaged part. I have used this machine to bust sod and in pre-tilled areas during each of the past three summers and have not had an issue with it. The shear bolts however, you will have to expect to replace from time to time as they are made to do just that "shear". They are a safety mechanism for if the machine encounters something that it can not till, the bolt will shear instead of causing damage to the transmission or other components. For busting hard sod, you do have to take it a bit easy and dig little by little (like .5 - 1" per pass) or else you can expect to brake shear bolts prematurely. For more information on DR Roto-Hog Tillers, please give our sales department a call at 1-(888) 550-0062 Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 8:00pm Eastern, Saturday from 8:30am - 5:00pm, and Sunday from 9:30am - 5:30pm. We will be happy to assist you and look forward to hearing from you.

Q.How do i set the depth on a manual dr rotohog not electric
A.On the Premier Roto-Hog Power Tiller, there is a drag stake that you manually raise or lower to adjust the tilling depth. The depth of the stake determines the depth of the tines.

Q.Does the Roto-Hog fit on a Craftsman riding lawnmower?
A.The towing requirements of a riding mower for the Roto-Hog is a minimum 12 HP. If the Craftsman is between 12-14 HP, Drag Stakes will be needed as the Roto-Hog is so powerful that it may push the mower along before efficiently tilling. If it is a 15 HP or more, Drag Stakes will not be needed.

The Roto-Hog features a pin hitch for towing.

Q.pull behind tillre
What is the hp rating. Are the tines counter rotating. how does this tiller compare to the agri-fab tiller
A.The DR Roto Hog is rated for 9 foot-pounds of torque. Many engine manufacturers no longer rates their smaller engines by horsepower. They rate them by foot-pounds of torque. Rati ng by foot-pounds of torque is a trend that is spreading throughout the industry because it is a more accurate measure of power. All of our machines are fitted with engines that are more than powerful enough to do the work they were designed to accomplish. The tines rotate in a clock wise rotation only. Please contract us if you have any more question's.

Q.Drag stakes recommended?
A.Thank you for your interest in the DR Roto-Hog Garden Tiller.

Use our Drag Stakes Kit to control the rate of tillage in fresh sod or really tough soils. Our heavy steel drag stakes act as a brake on the Roto-Hog allowing the tines to churn through hardpacked sod or clay at a slower rate and with deeper penetration. Helps to prevent shallow tilling or acceleration of the tiller.

Please contact us if you have further questions.

The DR Tow Behind Roto-Hog does not have a 3 point hitch set up option available for it. It is designed to be towed behind a lawn tractor or an ATV/UTV.

Please contact us if you have further questions. PL

Q.I own Cub-Cadet Z-FORCE SZ 48 KW zero turn lawn mower. The towing hitch is rated 250 lbs for pulling and 50 lbs for tongue weight. Can I use my mower to pull DR Roto-Hog Rototiller?
A.The towing requirements for the Roto-Hog are as follows.

12-14 HP Lawn Tractor or 250 cc ATV (Drag Stakes recommended) 15 HP or higher or 300 cc ATV

If your tow vehicle falls within the requirements above, there will not be an issue towing our Roto-Hogs.

Thank you for your interest.

Q.Do have a food plot package for your small tow behind tiller?
A.The Premier Roto-Hog Power Tiller is our new entry level model tiller and accepts the Hiller Attachment. A Food Plot Package is not an option for the Premier Tiller, but as we make changes to our products and introduce new attachments in the future, we'll be sure to let you know in our literature and on our website. Thanks for your inquiry.

Q.Will this tiller cut through fescue grass?
A.The type of grass wouldn't make a difference for the Roto-hog. However, we do recommend mowing first to eliminate grass wrapping around the tines. What to consider when using the Premier model is that it does have 12 tines compared to the Pro at 24. When breaking new ground with the Premier model, it is best to till slowly and only do small amounts at a time. This model also works great for maintaining existing plots and landscape.

Thank you for your interest.

Q.Why are there only 12 tines on the premier model vs. 24 on the Roto-Hog.
A.The new Premier Roto-Hog Power Tiller is considered our "entry level" model and is designed for already established plots and gardens, not for breaking sod or very hard, rocky soil. The dimensions of the Premier model at full tilling depth are smaller than the Pro model and offers not only 12-12" bolo tines, but also has smaller wheels that are made of a resin composite.

Q.What is the best rototiller for unbroken ground with rocky soil? The 12 tine or 24 tine? Does the 12 tine premier model offer electric start with remote for tines or can I just get the remote for tines without the electric start?
A.Hello, We recommend the Pro Rototiller for unbroken ground. The 24 Bolo tines are made of a 7 gauged steel and spin at 230 rpm. The curves of the tine will minimize the trapping of vegetation, breaking and chopping up the soil. The Pro model also has larger pneumatic wheels, allowing for easier transportation over rough terrain. The electric start and power actuator are only available on the Pro model. The Premier model will need to be manually turned on and the tines will need to be manually raised and lowered as needed. There is not a remote options on the Premier model. Thank you for your question.

Q.GEAR REDUCTION OIL 80/90 lube or sae30 wt.??????
why does manual call for 80/90 gear lube in gear reducation -unit i have PREMERE HOG TILLER has SAE- 30( about 1 inch bottom of reservior? ) WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE???? WOULD LIKE TO START USING TILLER ASAP???? HAVE 9.00 205cc engine.
A.We used to use 80/90 gear oil in these gear boxes but have switched to SAE 30. With your tiller sitting level, the oil level should be even with the fill hole. It should not be necessary to ever have to change the oil in the gear box but some may have to be added from time to time. For more information about this machine, please contact our Technical Support department toll free at 1-(888) 550-0062 Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 6:00pm Eastern and Saturday from 8:30am - 5:00pm. We will be happy to assist you and look forward to hearing from you.

Q.do you use the battery off the towing vehicle? Can i use an electric golf cart?
A.The Electric Start Roto-Hog has it's own Battery. A Golf Cart could be used. You would need to have Tires with good traction & more than likely 4 wheel drive. You would lose the ease of engaging/disengaging the Tines though. You would need to get out of the Cart to do this. You may also want the Drag Stake Kit to help keeping it from pushing the Cart depending on the Cart weight.

Q.What is the horsepower of the Briggs & Stratton 900 Series motor?
A.I'm sorry but Briggs and Stratton no longer publishes a HP rating on most of their small engines. Generally anything under 10-15 HP gets rated in FPT or they simply give displacement (CC) for comparison.

Q.does the tiller come preasymboled
A.Thanks for your interest in the DR 9.00 Pro Roto-Hog Power Tiller.

It is recommended having an extra set of hands available when unpacking and assembling the Roto-Hog Power Tiller. The manual-starting unit weighs 237 lbs and the electric-starting unit weighs 242 lbs. Assembly required is:

- (2) Wheels

- Tow Bar with Smooth-Trak Hitch

If it is the electric-starting model, the battery needs to be attached to the machine. ph

Q.When tilling the middles between my garden rows .................................
is the only way to disengage the tilling is to get off the tow vehicle and disengage before turning to till the next middle?
A.With the new Premier Manual Start Roto-Hog Power Tiller, there is a manual lever that allows you to control tilling depth from 1.5" above ground to 7.5" below ground. To adjust the tines, you will need to safely dismount from your lawn tractor/ATV.

Q.Would just an ordinary riding lawn mower have the power to pull this tiller?
I am thinking about purchasing a tiller for my sons to use. They want to put out a small vegetable garden but do not have the land. I have the land but am not able to do the work anymore. We sold our tractor and only have riding lawn mowers now.
A.It's not so much the Riding Lawnmower having the power to pull it, it's having the weight to "hold back" the Rotohog because the Tines are driving it forward. We recommend getting the Drag Stakes Kit (25017) to help with this.
