Overview

Convert your DR to a 3.5" Chipper! (2:17)

We offer a full set of attachments that allow you to get even more use out of your DR Field and Brush Mower. Watch the video above for an introduction to each.

Switching Attachments is Fast and Easy! (0:32)

No need for a lot of tools or time. Switching attachments is a no-hassle process that you can do in just a minute or two. It’s as easy at it looks in the short video above.

Our Chipper Attachment lets you chip branches up to 3-1/2" thick using the power of your DR Field and Brush Mower. The Chipper Attachment replaces the brush deck on the DR Field and Brush Mower power unit in just a few minutes. The brush deck slides off and the chipper slides on, without tools.

With the engine running, the 18-pound chipper flywheel is then engaged using a lever on the DR Field and Brush Mower control panel. The heavy flywheel spins with tremendous inertia for smooth chipping. And the single chipping knife takes up to 40 bites per second, quickly devouring tough, hardwood branches. Because the chipper is mounted to the brush mower's self-propelled power base, you can take it wherever you need to chip brush.

Belt issues

My father and I bought this attachment and seems to be well built and does a great job. I'm primarily chipping southern pine but it gets some other scrub oak as well that it chips nicely. Within the first couple of hours of using it it threw the belt and after continual use it threw the belt about once an hour and by day 3 of use it had completely chewed through the belt. Pretty happy with the over all performance but if the standard life of the belts are 10-12 hours of working time thats a serious problem as its not a belt you can pick up at the local hardware store. I spent about an hour trying to match up the belt at a local store only to resort to trying to track it down on the website.

Wood Chipper Attachment Doing A Great Job

This is my second year owning the walk behind field and brush mower and I own several attachments. The concept of owning one engine (power head) to care for is so smart and frugile. Cut down 5 trees yesterday ranging from 6-12 inches in diameter. Started job at 9 AM and finished chipping all debris around 3 PM with some breaks in there. The trees were very top heavy and branchy popular and red oak. The two to three inch pieces grow through the chipper like butter and make beautiful larger chips. The smaller branches must be cut so as not to have a ton of 90 degree shoots coming off because if not it's hard to bend them and push through the chipper opening, which would be the case with any smaller chipper. If you know this up front, this is taken care of with your chainsaw when you are cutting the tree up. The chipper is well built, strong (my power unit is the 16.5 HP) and does not bog down at all, ever. I have had zero trouble in two years of moderate use. Still on first belt, so not sure about the comments on frayed belts etc.. It's like owning any equipment, you have to be slightly mechanically inclined, but that is the case for any type of equipment. It is not hard to attach to power head. I have no struggle and can attach this chipper in less than 10 minutes and that includes taking whatever attachment off that I was using beforehand. I love the product. It's rugged, solid and performs exactly as DR claims. Makes free mulch and is an awesome accessory for me and I know should I have any issues DR will stand behind their product!

This helps quite a bit for small jobs that you simply don't want to throw into a burn pile. The bigger the branches you feed (up to the 3.5' limit) the more effective this machine is. Smaller branches need to be bundled TIGHT and fed into the chute with a twisting motion to ensure proper chipping/shredding. Monitor your discharge chute to make sure you don't plug it up. Happened to me once and took ~1 hr to clean it out. Installation/removal is DIFFICULT at best. It has an extremely tight fit with the Field & Brush Mower body so expect to invest some time on install/removal. I have to use a rubber mallet to make sure it is fully seated on the mower & then I wrap a 5 lb wedge with duct tape to press between the mower & attachment to assist with removal. This is great for small cleanup, but don't think this is designed for big jobs. If you have large chipping jobs, invest in the larger machines or just burn the brush.

Q.How do you run the chipper using the brush mower with the operator presence lever on the mower not being engaged?
A.Thank you for your question. When using the Field and Brush Mower to mow or with other attachments, you will need to engage the Operator Presence Lever. It does not apply to the Chipper Attachment when installed properly. The Operator Presence override feature of the Chipper Charness that you will install enables you to operate the Chipper even though the Operator Presence Lever is not held down as long as the key switch is in the "run" position. When the Chipper Operator Presence override key is disconnected from the Field and Brush Mower, the Operator Presence lever will function normally. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions.
