Good for leaves and small greens

I am satisfied with the product for exactly what it is advertised to accomplish. I am using it to create the dry content for composting to be mixed with my kitchen green items. I use mostly the "pine needles" setting because it creates the smallest mulched size. The plastic cutting material works well and is easy to change (which is often if small twigs from the trees get into the leaves being mulched). I am mulching dry pine needles, oak leaves, and madrone leaves which good success. I have also been successful with vegetable garden greens as long as they are soft, non-vine like, and I break off the root ball. Eye protection (and even better weed wacking helmet with screen face shield) is a must since pieces of dirt and twigs are thrown out the top often. The unit and yourself will be well dusted with dirt at the end of a session of dry leaves. Wet hard/thick leaves don't mulch very well.

Q.will this unit handle pine needles and pine cones?
A.Dry pine needles yes (I mix it with dried leaves). Pine cones wouldn't work. Any wood pieces that are bigger than about 1/8 inch (and particularily green or hard wood) won't work and will break up the cutting cord.

Q.Will this be able to mulch forsythia bush cuttings from when I prune?
A.The Electric Leaf Mulcher uses 85 mil cutting cord. It is designed to shred and mulch pine needles, leaves and grass clippings. For small limbs and bush cuttings, you may want to consider the Electric Shredder/Chipper which has a chipping capacity of 1.5" in diameter and will shred any normal organic debris found in your yard, including leaves.

Q.Will this grind paper and file folders two inches thick or more ?
these are insurance files.
A.The Electric Leaf Mulcher uses 85 mil nylon cutting cord to shred and mulch only natural organic debris found in a normal yard or lawn. This type of debris consists of branches, leaves, twigs, sticks, grass clippings, flower petals, etc. Sorry, but it is not intended for the processing of manufactured paper products.
