Rack keeps wood neat and dry
Posted by: bany9 from Indiana on 09/24/2013
I own an eight foot rack and several four footers. I load them up in the fall and have enough dry wood for burning every cold night thereafter. I put the really solid heartwood on the bottom to provide a solid base and then stack the wood in equal-length pieces until full. I lay the hard to stack or slightly punky wood on top to be burned first, then cover it all with a tarp. The end resuly is a neat and dry wood supply. It's good excercise and provides a feeling of self-sufficieny when it's finished. The racks are strong and durable. I've been using mine for over twenty years with no mechanical problems. The eight footer is a full face or rick of wood when filled (8'x4'x16" or 128 cubic feet in volume#. If you buy two eight footers you basically have a full chord of wood #4' high x 8' long x 4' wide#.
