Short Life

I am purchasing my fourth battery, the last received 9/19/13. I would expect the life to be longer than less than two years at the price being charged.
Response from DR SupportThank you for providing feedback on the DR® Li-Lon 18-volt battery. Battery life is heavily dependent upon the care that it receives. Please follow these instructions and as they indicate; don’t forget to bring the battery inside when temperatures dip below 32 degrees. Hopefully these will prove helpful. Thank you for choosing DR® Power – we appreciate your business! Make sure the Charger Power Supply is plugged into a normal household voltage, 120volts, 60Hz, AC only. • You should operate the Battery Charger in a dry place with temperatures between 32ºF (0ºC) and +80ºF (+26.7ºC). Operating above +80 ºF can cause Battery Pack leakage, rust, or degradation of the Battery Pack performance. • Disconnect Charger Power Supply from the household voltage power when not in use to prevent damage to the Charger during a power surge. • Periodically inspect the Cord on the Charger unit for damage. If damage occurs, do not use the Charger until you have replaced or repaired the Cord. Do not abuse the Cord. Never carry the Charger by the Cord. Always pull the plug – and not the Cord – when disconnecting the Power Supply from the electrical outlet (wall outlet) and from the Charger. When using an extension Cord with your Charger, use a heavy-duty extension Cord of a type 'suitable for outdoor use' (although you should never charge the Battery Pack in the open outdoors). • The Battery Pack requires 2-3 charging and discharging cycles before reaching full charge ability. • A Battery Pack may last much longer if you charge it as soon as it starts to lose power and not let it completely discharge. Recharge the Battery Pack as soon as the power of your DR Battery-Powered Tool is no longer effective. This would be a good time to have a spare Battery Pack ready to go. Recharge the Battery Pack for 30-60 minutes until fully charged and remove it from the Charger. • A good time to consider purchasing a replacement Battery Pack is when it seems to lose power quickly

Response from DR SupportThank you for your feedback and continued business. No worries - batteries will continue to be available for you! Appreciate the good question!

I purchased a pole saw and an extra battery so I would be able to finish any project. I charged up both batteries and have only had to use 1 of them. The battery charged up fast and holds a working charge for - well I will have to let you know when it runs down. Glad I got the saw and that it runs on these batteries.

I bought this as a spare when I recently purchased a hedge trimmer. I never even needed to plug it into the trimmer. I was able to trim all the hedges around our home with the battery that came with the trimmer. Keep up the good work.

The battery works just fine. The edger/trimmer is ok.
Posted by: esben from New Jersey on 06/25/2013

Edger/trimmer works very nicely as a trimmer, but edging puts great strain on the cord and it tends to wear down or break quickly. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the machine. My actual purchase for this revue was an extra battery. Works just fine.

have two batteries for a "weed" eater, both have been used, have a moderate life under use, one for no particular reason suddenly became difficult to plug into the tool. Like the relatively fast recharge cycle.

I have purchased various DR Equipment tools and I am impressed with them. For an average lawn or home they are plenty. I work my tools pretty hard (I don't think my tools like me very much, I work them too hard). The batteries have been especially good. At least the 18 Volt batteries have been. I have a pole saw, a chain saw and a trimmer that I have used many times over. The batteries have been excellent. I killed a pole saw but the batteries are still going strong. I've cut down a number of trees and I am in awe over the batteries. I have owned these tools for approx three years. My property is 1/2 an acre but I also cut family, friends and neighbors yards and trees on occasion. (Ummm, many occasions)

This battery works good. It will run at full power until it runs out of power and then stops running all at once until it is charged. Much better than a regular battery that loses power a little at a time, as far as I am concerned.

I am extremely pleased with the new 18volt battery, but I was disappointed that a prior one I bought only 2 years ago had stopped working. When I asked one of your supervisors what was the normal life of a battery like this, his response was, "they go when they go." Curious but I was disappointed with the response as non-professional.

I love the tools that this battery attaches to. I have the blower and line trimmer and bush cutter, and use them every week in my lawn care. It is great not to have cords tangling up behind me, catching on rocks or corners. I have 3 lithium and 3 regular batteries. I keep them all charged and ready to go. I grab the tool , push a battery on it and have the job done in minutes. There is no long winding up of cords, which used to take more time than what ever lawn care job I was doing. I am very happy with the whole cordless tool way of life!

Q.Leave battery in charger between uses?
I use my battery yard tools mostly on the weekends. Is it ok to just leave the battery always in the charger when it's not being used? Or should the battery be removed from the charger after its complete recharging?
A.Thank you for your inquiry. The Li-Ion charger will automatically shut-off after 2 hours, however we do not recommend leaving the battery in the charger for longer periods. I hope this answers your question. If you'd like to place an order, pleasee call us directly at 800-376-9637.

Q.battery maintenance?
When should battery be charged and how long should it be on charger?
A.For their weight, the Lithium Battery produces a lot of power and lasts twice as long during use and can hold their charge longer. They give high performance in cold weather and because they are so lightweight, there is no problem with lifting any DR Hand Tool. Besides their increase life cycle over other batteries they also have a more rapid charge time. We recommend charging the battery after every use and depending on the DR Hand Tool, the battery charge cycle length is 30 to 60 minutes.

Q.I have a neuton 18 volt battery...will this fit into an 18 volt y Dr weedeater?
I see the neuton I cad battery only has 2 prongs where the lithium battery has 4.
A.Thank you for you inquiry. Yes your 18 volt Neuton battery will fit the DR string trimmer. The Neuton and DR 18 volt hand tools will operate with either the nicad or lithium batteries, with one exception. The Neuton leaf blower can only accept the nicad style battery. Also note that each style battery must use its matching style of charger.

Q.18v leaf blower Li battery Replacement
Will this advertised battery replace my Neuton battery BL91026DR used in the Neuton blower model: C820018DR?
A.Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the new Li-Ion battery will not fit under the "lip" of the battery attachment area of the Cordless Blower. It will, however, fit all the other DR Hand Tools. All you need is the new Li-Ion charger with it. Although this may not be the answer you wanted to hear, we do still sell Ni-Cad batteries for the Blower. If you'd like to order one please call us at 800-376-9637.
