Disappointed

I wish that I had read the reviews before purchasing this product but I had never been disappointed iN a DR product before and bought it based on the info in the ad. Very disappointed. Blades lasted only a short time and didn't perform well at all. Waste of money. Heavy cord and Beaver blade will do most anything that this will do.
Response from DR SupportThanks for leaving a review about the Durablade Kit. We are sorry to hear you are not fully satisfied with the purchase of it. We will pass your comments to our Product Development department for review.

Great addition to the DR Trimmer
Posted by: RickMD from Maryland on 08/10/2013

This kit does an amazing job on woody brush; you may not think so by looking at them but they cut through brush easier than the heavy duty trimmer cords. They don?t last very long but you can get a lot of work out of them. A good buy.

Poor design - returning for refund
Posted by: WestTXRancher from Texas on 08/01/2013
Rating:
As a 20+ year customer of DR Power products in Texas, this is the first product I cannot recommend. The DuraBlades are made of metal and SPARK terribly - even against the soft limestone in west central Texas. The blades wear down quickly on dry brush. The blade height is not adjustable and is at the lowest setting - closest to the ground. This poor design makes keeping the metal blades away from hidden obstacles more difficult by requiring additional down-force on the trimmer handles. I am returning the product for a refund.
Response from DR SupportThank you for taking the time to post a review. We apologize for the inconvenience you have encountered. We hope that this instance hasn’t turned you away from considering us in the future. We welcome the opportunity to earn your trust again.

works great, but....

This accessory works great, but I wish it cut a wider path. It takes a long time to cut a path thru the blackberries, wild rose, buckbrush, etc. to walk comfortably. An additional comment---why don't you at least offer the cast aluminum deck on your top line DR model? You have 'dumbed down' the product by going to a stamped steel deck, which is what your competitors use. A friend got one for his mom, & w/the steel deck, it is really heavy for a 70 something woman to use.

Great idea, dubious execution
Posted by: JoshSomerville from Maine on 06/30/2013

I had high hopes for the product and ordered it the same time as the self-propelled trimmer/mower. I broke the blades within 5 minutes of use. As soon they met resistance, they broke. Perhaps this is a safety-feature, but I would think that solid metal blades would be more durable and thus useful. The good news is that the trimmer cords and the beaver blade take care of just about anything I've encountered. I just wish we hadn't wasted the money on the so-called durablades.

I have been so happy with all DR Products and expected the same performance from this item. The concept is good, but the thin little blades broke immediately. I was not able to cut even the smallest weeds with this products. It would not tackle the same weeds that the DR Wheeled mower-trimmer zips right through with the greatest of ease. Perhaps DR could design some more substantial blades for this product. We will continue to use out DR String trimmer and the Beaver Blade attachment with great satisfaction.

Disintegrated cutting brush
Posted by: Werner from Washington on 06/20/2013
Rating:
My DR Trimmer Mower works generally great as string mower. Maybe I should have chosen a self-propelled model considering the hilly terrain of my property. However, the DuraBlade accessory cannot handle much more than the blue cords. The set I had purchased disintegrated completely while trying to cut some, not thicker than three eighth thick, green bramble bushes. It is hard to avoid touching dry stems inside a green bramble bush. Why don?t you use steel blades?

Durablades

The plastic construction of Durablades will not stand up to my cutting. I have a place in Alaska that took 3 minuets to destroy the blades. Then I took a set to my farm in Washington to attack tough weeds. They lasted better, but still the 1.05 twine was a better fit.

Dura Blades got torn off after using cutting clumped up Zoysia grass.
Posted by: Kiku from Hawaii on 06/19/2013
Rating:
My expectations of the blades were durability and longer lasting. After mowing an area of about 30x40 sq. ft. of Zoysia grass, one blade tore off from its setting and another was just about to get torn off. Probably plastic was not tough enough to withstand the clumped up Zoysia grass. I thought it would have been tougher than that as it is advertised to cut smaller woody brambles. This was only grass and the blades could not withstand short period of use, maybe 15 to 20 minutes before the plastic blades got pulled off or damaged so unusable. I don't have pictures of blades as they were sent to DR.

Posted by: PPC774 from Texas on 11/16/2012

This kit has made my DR trimmer very useful for hard to cut grass and woody weeds. It has given me the capability to cut through some very hard areas with vines and dense grass, and clears the way for me to do some heavier cutting. Note that even though the blades don't last too long because I go through some rough areas with it, I'm very glad I bought this item.

Q.What have you done to improve the robustness of your durablades for the DR Trimmer?
I bought your DR trimmer/mower in May 2001, It may be one of the first that you ever built. I have been very pleased with the unit. The only problems that I've had were all self inflicted. I want to buy your durablade system because I have some weeds/brush that are too tough for the .155 string and not worthy of using my beaver blade. After reading the reviews I am going to hold up on buying this product until you figure out how to improve its robustness. I do not mind spending $50, but I have to get value for my purchase. If you need a real world Beta Tester, I will be happy to be one for you. I am retired, and a project like this would be interesting.
A.The DR DuraBlade is designed for trimming through woody brush up to 3/8 of an inch thick and are 100 times stronger than our cutting cord. The blades have cutting edges on both sides, doubling the cutting time. We are always working on improving our equipment and take a lot of feed back from our customer's which we appreciate. The DuraBlade will work very well if used properly, sand, rock's, etc. will have the greatist effect on dulling the blades. Alway's wait for the blade to stop spinning before setting it on the ground. Please contact us if you have other question's.

Q.DR-TRIMMER
Do the Durablades crack and break off? Will they last one roll of string? This would be a great time saver, since I go thru a roll of string every time I mow this large field. Will they break off if they nick a rock?
A.The Dura Blades can break when they encounter rocks or larger diameter stocks. They will outlast the cord, however the quality of cut will be better using cord.

Q.I have a 'TRM 6.0 HP' MAN New B&S OHV LMFP Spoke VTW .
Also a Maint. Kit & Beaver Blade Kit for this TRM. Shipping date was 03/10/1999. Will the DURABLADE Kit attach to my TRM? Or do I need the Wide - Body Trimmer Head?
A.For DR Trimmer models that have the original cutter head assembly with the single metal plate that you loop the cutting cord onto, you will need the Wide - Body head assembly upgrade kit in order to use the DuraBlade. The line spacer plates on this new head assembly actually hold the blades onto the DuraBlade mowball. Q.Will Durablades fit on the original Polycut heads that are used on heavy weed wackers?
The Polycut blades are only plastic, with no metal sandwiched inside. I'm hoping DR has kept the same arbor size so I can use your better quality blades on my Polycut weed wacker head.
A.We're not sure about the Polycut you are talking about. Our Durablades have a 1/2" diameter Arbor size.

Q.If the blades are metal covered with a polymer does that mean they cannot be sharpened? Do they just get replaced when they wear down?
A.If you are referring to the DuraBlade, they can not be sharpened, but they are two sided, so when they do get dull, simply turn them over for a fresh set of blade's.
